great lake for paddling or fishing…read more lots of smaller largemouth bass, but a developing population of larger ones. no gas motors are allowed. concrete boat ramp with a small floating dock and attached canoe/kayak launch. even when the parking area is crowded, I've never seen it full. & the lake looks empty even when the parking is full. limited shore fishing. some picnic tables & such. there are restrooms on the hill above the boat ramp. only flaws are a population of wasps at the dock that repeated complaints to the County have not resolved, and a tendency for all-about-me folks to park along the ramp (which is NOT a parking area, except for the small handicap area) or leave their vehicles there for extended periods.

This is lovely reservoir park along River Road (northwest of downtown Fredericksburg, but on the…read moresouth bank of the Rappahanock River). It's only a 7 minute drive from the Wegmans in the Carl D. Silver Parkway megaplex. As you enter on the left side, continue past the mini-parking lot along a gravel road. At the end, there's a larger parking lot (upper lot) and the smaller parking area (lower lot). On a Sunday morning in late September, it was calm and peaceful on the reservoir. On weekends from 12pm-5pm, the nature center is open for kids. This is a great place for boating (they have kayak and canoe rentals) and easy hiking. Not so ideal for running because the trails are narrow and full of tree branches (hazardous if you're not watching your step). A river path is a good option for walking (but not ideal for jogging). Across River Road at the "bottom of the hill", there's a public boat ramp that's worth a quick peek for a view of the river. At the far left, walk toward the open space and path along the river. After a short walk of 200 feet, you'll get a clear view of how rocky and shallow the river is - as well as bowls in the ground which may been cannon redouts (used during the Civil War). It's amazing to see both the Union and Confederate forces built cannon redoubts on both sides to prevent people from crossing the river at this shallow and relatively calm area. Enjoy!

Also, this lake allows remote controlled boats, so if someone is using it to speed around the water, we kayakers have to steer clear. Noisy and annoying. Finally, we used our own kayaks and PDFs and the cost was $10.

Off to the right is a gravel road that runs along the river with a few pullouts. The first pullout is for a handicapped access picnic table. There is a larger picnic area off to left. Along the river for the first part you may smell cow poop as there is a farm on the other side of the river and the top side of the park. If you drive further back or hang out on the left side this shouldn't be a problem. If you are in the area or traveling through it is a good place to chill out for awhile.

When I arrived with my pontoon boat I was greated by Zach and Mason (Anna Point employees) who treated myself and my wife like we were VIPs. They were so helpful in every way, from showing me where my leased slip was located, how to dock and operate the lift, to helping me cover my boat once docked and lifted. They were very polite and respectful. Along with Hunter (the associate that set up my slip contract) I could not have asked for a better experience. The slip / lift is wonderful as well. It is going to make our time at the lake so much easier and more enjoyable not having to trailer the pontoon on every trip. Thank you Anna Point Marina for making my life more enjoyable.

A Perfect Family Fishing Day - Fish to Table…read more We had researched a few fishing guides ahead of time. Our kids had gone fishing with me a few times this year, but we had nothing to show for it. We thought we would try again with the help of Christopher. The entire experience exceeded our expectations. We had booked an afternoon slot, we just had to pay a deposit with Venmo. Christopher took care of all the details - boat, rods, tackle, bait - everything. We just had to show up. We showed up a little early for our 1:30 slot, and Christopher had already cleaned and prepped the boat, so we started a few minutes early. The whole day at Lake Anna one kid or the other was hooking a fish every 10-15 minutes. We lost about 20-30% of the strikes, so my kids caught 20 bass with only about over 3 hours of line-in-water. This time of year, Christopher did not need to use the sonar, he just knew where we should cast. He took the time to teach the us how to cast and the types of structures we should look for underwater. He also taught us how to skip the bait! I had never seen anything like it. He taught us how to feel for the fish, time the setpoint and finally how to effectively set the hook. Christopher threw in a little fish history and some fish psychology while scuttling between hot spots. We headed back about 5:00 with our keepers. He took a few photos for us and we headed home. We got home with our catch and taught the kids how to gut and clean their catch. We cooked our fish by simply wrapping them in foil with butter, salt and garlic. The kids loved eating their own catch. Perfect and memorable trip for the family. Truly outstanding. Five stars!
