This review is specific to the brunch - not the booze. I should be giving this a 2 star rating based on our visit - but with their current 4 star rating, I can only assume we hit them at a bad day. Their brunch menu only contains 5 items, and we were informed that they were "out" of the chicken & waffles - so kind of disappointing if you only offer 5 items to begin with. We were a party of 5 and each item came out from the kitchen individually and were at least 15 minutes apart. Thankfully the person who got theirs first was a very patient person. That all aside - the food was amazing and beautifully presented. So we'll give them another chance and hope this was an anomaly. read more

Food, drinks, and service are all incredible! There is ample space to hangout here. Food portions are huge and definitely shareable. So many great drink choices to choose from! Highly recommend the bloody flight and the night in Bangkok. The night in Bangkok has a hint of heat from the shishito pepper, mixed with sweet from the lychee. This was my first time at their new location and they had closed for 2 private events. Our Athletics Dept held its holiday party here last night. The service was outstanding and the food was brought in by a catering service. Although I didn't walk in a fan of bourbon, I tasted it in so many different and wonderful drinks, I certainly left as one. I would have to say the maple cream was a fan favorite. I wanted to have a bit of an "experience" fr my husband's birthday. Black Button Distillery didn't disappoint! " They understood the assignment!" Tracy, welcomed us warmly before our guests, another couple, arrived. She immediately confirmed the details previously agreed upon in my phone conversation with Annie ( I hope I got that right)! When the other couple joined us, everything was in place for our bourbon tasting (4 different bourbons). Tracy clearly explained about the process, how we'd approach tasting each bourbon, and she did a great job outlining the flavor of each offering. DELICIOUS!!! Annie and Tracy were quite the team, even playfully checking each other regarding their accuracy in capturing our desired food selections: chicken wings, charcuterie board, Mediterranean Flatbread, and their legendary potatoes. Everything was delicious, and we all agreed that we were quite full and satisfied. Something we also appreciated, we weren't rushed at all. Having recently visited Italy, the four of us appreciated not being rushed. The general agreement among us, we must return for Sunday brunch. While we initially waited for our guests, Tracy told us about the owner, and his decision to make hand sanitizer during the pandemic. Ironically, we'd ordered some during that period. Their efforts literally saved their company. I wasn't surprised in that their website has an altruistic vibe. This made us feel even better about supporting this business. We highly recommend this "Rochester Jewel!" Kudos to Tracy and Annie for making us feel welcomed, and providing us with such a unique birthday experience for my husband. We shall return. Nothing says Sunday morning like a visit to the black button distillery! The location is super convenient as it's right next to the public market so a quick walk to either and plenty of parking! Stopped by to pick up a bottle of their bourbon cream which is great for hot beverage of choice (mine is hot chocolate but most others is coffee) and got the fun surprise of getting a free engraved glass with my purchase! What's not to love about Black Button? Since they've made their home on Railroad St, that whole district has flourished and come to life with art, food, craft beverages - all enveloped by the Public Market. I love coming to this part of town and doing a tasting at BB followed by games and pizza at Rohrbach. The distillery itself is set up beautifully with bar seating, table seating, and a great open view of the distilling process. I've been in for a comedy night, a Yelp event, nights out with friends, and to quickly buy gifts for friends and relatives. One of my favorites around Christmas is the candy cane filled with bourbon cream minis! They do a beautiful, citrus forward gin that I enjoy with seltzer as a refreshing summer drink. I already mentioned the infamous bourbon cream - great for weekend mornings in the winter with your coffee if you're feeling wild. Apple pie moonshine if you're feeling ESPECIALLY wild. I've been betrayed by many a sneaky Apple Pie moonshine cocktail, with its high ABV hiding behind smoothness. Is it fall yet? I am ready to get betrayed again. Black Button goes above and beyond for the community and makes me feel proud to live in Rochester. I love this organization and can't wait to see how they continue to make their mark in the world of spirits. Black button is a staple to Rochester cocktails. Stopped here on a Saturday night to try their mermaid cocktail and while it wasn't necessarily my favorite flavors it was still a fun drink and my sister loved it. I do wish they had a couple more food options so you could Make a meal out of snacks. Outside seating is small 2 or 3 4 top tables so get their early if you want to sit out there. We arrived at 6:30 pm and there was 1 other party there. I grabbed a bottle of the Loganberry gin to try and recreate the loganberry smash that I made in a class of theirs once. Which brings me to their classes, I've only ever done them via zoom but it's a great value. You learn 2 drinks, how to make a simple syrup, a full size bottle of liquor, a cocktail glass, shaker and a book with cocktail recipes. If you have never had it before I recommend their bourbon cream, I mean who wouldn't. This place makes a fantastic old fashioned. Not the reason why I first stopped by all those years ago, my travels brought me there for the apple pie moonshine. Which, I'm sad to report, they officially no longer make. Much to my chagrin. They now make a bastard version, an apple liquour. Blegh. Anyhow, they have $12 cocktails, nice staff, $10 flights and some pretty good distilled liquors. Totally worth the stop while they remain at their location near the market until summer 2023. The new space is amazing! We hadn't been there since it was at the market and were we in for a treat. Very open and had 3 rooms for sitting (one is the tasting room). Black Button currently has gas fire tables to sit at outside. You can have up to 4 people in your reservation. You pay in advance a $25 fee per person that includes 2 drinks and it includes gratuity. There's also an option for getting 1 drink and a t-shirt or hat instead of a 2nd drink. They have a menu of cold and hot drinks to choose from. We opted for hot drinks. I had a butter pecan hot coffee drink and a cookie flavored coffee drink and both were very good. There are also hot cocoa options and even tea options. They're served in disposable to-go coffee cups. This whole experience was very cool! The tables are set up on the side of the street. I do have to say, the fire doesn't really give off heat and you're sitting on cold Adirondack chairs. The nice thing is, they offer you freshly laundered blankets to bundle up in! I would recommend dressing very warm and bringing your own blankets just in case they run out. BB said they will continue to do this if the city allows their setup in the street to continue. This is up in the air at the current time. They said if this continues it will depend on the weather. On their website you can book a reservation and check on the status of this event. We did a tasting at the Buffalo location, and we were so impressed by the story and knowledge, we wanted to see where the action happens! A Sunday Funday comes with a tour, tasting, cocktail and shot glass. You start off with the tour. The tour guide is extremely knowledgeable and ready to answer your questions as you walk through the bourbon process from start to finish. After your tour , you are ready for your tasting! I enjoyed Black Button so much at the tastings that I became a guild member and bought a 15 Gallon barrel of Single Barrel Bourbon. I've enjoyed it and shared it freely. That hasn't stopped me from going back to try their other offerings and buying them. I've never been a fun fan - not big on juniper. Black Button's Citrus Forward Gin is great. It had juniper but it also has Citrus that brightens it up immensely. They do seasonal find for the Lilac festival and Loganberry for Buffalo. Bourbons: They have their blended four grain bourbon, seasonal Pre-Prohibition at a slightly higher proof and temperament, Single Barrel, Cask Strength 112? Proof, and the also made a Port Finished Bourbon that commands a premium price. Bourbon Cream - Black Button's answer to Bailey's. Plus an assortment of food related items like Bloody Mary mix, Maple Syrup, etc. They were among the first to ask the city to close off one side of their Street so they could serve patrons outside this Summer and Fall, in addition to inside as conditions allowed. Jason and his staff try to make you feel at home. It's been a trying year for everyone. I freaking love it here. I've come here both for the tour/tasting, and for just drinks and both surpass expectations. Plus, it's almost never as busy as you think it's going to be, and the bar staff are amazing! For the tour - we got some great background info on the distilling process as well as the ingredients used by Black Button and where they source from - which I really appreciate. For the tasting - you get a LOT! We sampled the citrus forward gin, their vodka, the apple pie moonshine, and the cream bourbon. They also give you samples of barbecue sauce, chicken rub, and maple syrup! For the drinks - they always nail it. I've had the BBQ Bloody Mary, the Bees Knees, a Moscow Mule, the Movie Night and a few of their rotating specialty cocktails, and truly not one disappointed. We attended a surprise birthday party for a friend at Black Button Distilling. So we had it in the back distilling area which was kind of cool- "behind the glass"!! I will be honest that I am not the biggest bourbon guy - more of a tequila or vodka man nowadays. But the tasting we had as part of our tour had more than just bourbon. A citrus forward gin, a hybrid of said gin and bourbon, and the bourbon cream were my faves. They have a nice range of cocktails, and 2 Rohrbach's beers on tap, with the compliment of the Rohrbach's line in cans. (Rohrbach's is next door and owns the building). They had cider as well. Our party had great appetizers (sorry they told us where they came from but I forgot- I think a place in Fairport). And 2 Cheesie Eddie cheesecakes- I had a piece of each! The staff is very friendly and we even had one of the Master Distillers- Jeff Fairbrother- in attendance. The bar was full too so they seem to be pretty popular. And did I mention that they sell all of the spirits in bottles there too? Parking on a Friday night was a bit of a challenge but we found a spot in one of the two lots on Railroad St. We will definitely be back here! read more

I attended a celebration event here and we did a little tour and tasting. It was great fun. I don't love spirits, if I must be honest, but I do enjoy learning about the production process from people who obviously love what they do. I had my drink and a taste of several other people in my group (sorry, guys!) and really liked almost everything. The cheese, fruit/ veggies, etc were fresh and a nice side to the tastables. We tried the Barrel Reserve Citrus Forward Gin, Garden Gin, another Gin can't think of it right now, and the Bourbon Cream. We decided on the Garden Gin. Went this morning (Yes, Liquor at Breakfast time) for a tour and tasting through Groupon. Tour was entertaining and educational. Tasting was fun - me and my husband loved the Wheat Vodka, Apple Pie moonshine and Bourbon maple syrup and brought some home at a reasonable price. Without the groupon tasting is $5 which is a great deal. They are located near public market and have their own small parking lot next to location - very simple. My friend has been highly praising their gins, especially the limited, seasonal lilac. After hearing for weeks about how much she anticipates the release, I went ahead and ordered the special Mother's Day bundle, which in addition to a bottle of lilac gin, came with a cake from Cheesy Eddies. I'm pleased to report back that the gin is just as delicious as promised! I would say, if you wanted to do a tasting/tour, I would go in the evening on Friday, rather than during the day on Saturday, as the Public Market is just up the road and the street gets busy busy! Not sure what the YELP Gods did to our initial review, it was posted and disappeared. So we are rewriting this from memory. We were next door at the brewery when some other customers began talking about Black Button. Our ears perked up at the mention of local bourbon so off we went. We had the tasting and enjoyed some of the stories that we heard in between tastes. Turns out our pourer was the owner's father and he gave us the story behind the distillery and why his son named it Black Button. He didn't really need to sell us because the product sold itself. We ended up with a bottle of Citron Gin, Bourbon Cream (think Irish cream but smoother- great for coffee), and a bottle of Apple Pie Moonshine. All were amazing and yes, all made it back home before consumption. This was a great find and we're happy we stopped in for a tasting and bought a few bottles for home. read more

I visited numerous venues in hopes of throwing a 40th birthday party. Every place had absurd minimum consumption, cake cutting, and service fees. One day, I stopped by Black Button on the off chance I could host a party there. Emily, the events coordinator, immediately started answering all of my questions. She was incredibly friendly and helpful. She advised me that private parties can be reserved for Saturday evenings for a small rental fee. There were no service or other ridiculous fees attached. I was immediately sold. Black Button has a catering menu with Wegmans but you can get commercially available food from anywhere. I chose to stay with Wegmans because the menu was customizable and affordable. Additionally, it is delivered to the distillery. There are so many other great perks to having a party here. We were able to create a signature cocktail prior to the party and serve it to our guests. Additionally, I covered a tasting for everyone because this place was so affordable. A complimentary tour was also offered to those who were interested. We also got to play our own playlist we created just for the party. It was so fun and everyone loved the uniqueness of the event. The room comfortably fit 40 people and still had room for more. Emily and the bartenders were so accommodating and fun to work with. Black Button Distilling is hands down the most unique distillery I've had the pleasure of visiting and working with. Yes they were the first to produce it... but the bourbon we tasted at Black button has to top our list!
