I called to attempt to use a travel agency to arrange a trip for me and my family. I've been traveling for over twenty five years as an adult and since the age of five with my family. I have planned international trips and Caribbean trips but thought that maybe it would be nice to have a travel agent assist to take some of the stress away that comes with planning for a group.I used A big chain travel company this year to go to Europe because we were visiting more than one country but my next trip I would just need to go to one destination and full relaxation would be my goal( spa, massage, lush vegetation, etc.) I even asked to inform me if a Special came across her desk to any place with a beach, so that I could consider possibly changing my original plans if it sounded good. You would think I asked her to come get me and take me to the airport the way she spoke. Speaking to her for less than 15 minutes wasn't a pleasant experience. You would think she was reprimanding a child. I understand the frustrations of customer service but we didn't even establish a rapport. I would not recommend using this company. You are better off planning your own vacation and keeping the agent fee for drinks. Being nasty or brash is unbecoming. read more

Linda Grelli helped us plan our Honeymoon to Hawaii (Maui) and we had a great time. She helped us keep our cost down and still got us a really nice room at a nice hotel. I don't think we could have asked for a better compromise of cost and quality! We will be calling upon her services again once we can save up some money for another trip! You can pick your stuff randomly on one of those random, impersonal web sites or you can get a personalized vacation planner for next to no cost. The travel agents can get better prices from the airlines and hotels and you split the money you save so you get a better trip for your money and they benefit too, its a win win! You won't even notice a the difference in price but you will notice the difference in the quality of your trip. We told her the places we were looking at on the web sites and she said she wouldn't send anybody to those places because she would never get any repeat business. Give them a call, there's no obligations to book your travel plans with them, and they are a great resource for information about the places you might be looking into visiting in the near future. My family of 13 just got back from Italy, & there is no way I could have planned this trip on my own!! From Venice to Florence to Sorrento & back up to Rome, everything was perfect, & when you're trying to satisfy 13 people, it was a challenge. BUT, Linda was so patient, helpful, knows many people there (including Franco who was our tour guide for Vatican & St. Peter's plus the Colosseum & Forum), & since she speaks Italian, she could converse with the hotels, etc. on a more personal basis. Went to a destination wedding in Costa Rica booked thru this agency. The venue was beautiful, the wedding was awesome, the travel services not so much. The Bride and Groom were beautiful, as were their families who helped to put on a beautiful wedding. I say kudos to Hotel Riu in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, and to the Bride and Groom and their families. So many things to say about it; I did not receive my itinerary in the mail, had to call and ask for travel information 2 days before we were to leave and other guests had the same experience. Jean told me that it was mailed out in September - and she received it back in her office as "refused" October 19th, after I asked about it, just before we were scheduled to leave. She didn't call or email to say the package was refused/returned. They did send me via email the trip information so I was grateful for that. When we asked for information on baggage charges we were referred to the airline. The flight - we were routed from San Francisco to Atlanta GA, with a 4 hour lay over at 6:30 am GA time, then on the Liberia. Some people left from LAX and went directly to Liberia - their travel time was 5 1/2 hours, ours was from 8pm on Wednesday night to 11:55am Thursday Afternoon. Needless to say our vacation didn't start till Friday because we were exhausted. We could have flown from SFO to LAX and then on to Liberia making the trip 7-8 hours instead of 15+ hours. Same horrible experience on the way home. One person was flown from San Diego to SFO to GA, her travel was even worse than ours and of course she was not seated next to her son. On the plane married couples and their very young children were seated separately, couples who were sharing rooms were seated separately, very few people who went together were seated together. On the way home from Liberia our plane didn't leave until 1 pm, but the bus to take us to the airport made us meet in the lobby at 9am, so we waited at the airport 3 hours before beginning the grueling trip home when we could have been at the resort we paid for. We were told there would be one "excursion" included, that did not happen. The prices for excursions in advance compared to what was available once we got to Costa Rica was roughly double, sometimes triple the cost. My daughter and I were sharing a room, yet the price we paid for our trips was exactly the same price charged to an individual with a private room. No discount for double occupancy. We paid for parking in advance thru the travel agency and we arrived home to unexpected charges at Park n Fly for 6 hours because they charge based on a 24 hour day - the travel agent knew what time our flights were going to arrive (since she booked them) so she should have factored that in to the parking fee she charged us. Fortunately for us the Park n Fly staff was more accommodating than the agency. If you think a destination wedding will save you money on dinner and drinks since it is all inclusive - we have a surprise for you. That is not the case. As for the travel agency, I think a little more effort would have gone a long way. Please and thank you are always appreciated, tho I cannot find that in any of the email communication I have had so far. Not even a polite salutation at the beginning of each email message sent out to the guest list. One family member who had to cancel due to a family medical emergency was treated very rudely by the agency, they wanted to charge a cancellation fee even though the venue did not. When I asked about cancellation or replacement (as in replace one name with another due to pregnancy) and mentioned that there was concern over the Zika virus for some of the young people who were planning on starting families soon Jean said "maybe they should wait until after the wedding to get pregnant" and at that time the wedding was more than 6 months away. AS IF any young couple will arrange family planning around a trip. With such a large group Jean's commissions were sufficient that the business should have been appreciated enough to warrant a better effort on behalf of the agency. Many of the people I spoke to on this trip were not happy with the agency, said they were treated rudely and they were going to put up yelp and trip adviser reviews, lets see how many actually do. My suggestion is to shop around before you make a decision on any agency. Especially if its for a destination wedding. I have found Matthew W. & Nora M.'s reviews to be more in line with my experience than any of the others posted here. read more

Back in June, my bf and I were invited by a good friend of ours to go on a cruise in March for his birthday. We gladly accepted and then were directed to work with Maureen, a family friend, who was in charge of putting the group package together. We had never been on a cruise before, and so we had a few questions... price differences for rooms, dates for payments, veteran discounts etc. Every time we had questions, the responses were in ALL CAPS, or we'd receive multiple emails in one single day to rush us that our deadline for deposit was coming up (including facebook messages to hurry up or miss out)! What's the rush? I had told her that we'd be paying on Fri (payday), and if anything was that much of an emergency, she had both our phone numbers to call. After multiple back n forth emails about the early special deadline on Friday, we booked the deposit that same Fri. Later she told us that we missed the deadline because it was on "Florida time". And I'm supposed to know that, how? Being that she was a "family friend" of our friend, we just brushed it off and paid EVERYTHING in full, just to not have to deal with her rude emails again. Fast forward to last week, where I just accepted a great job at a CPA firm; where the busiest time of the year is March through the end of April. Unfortunately, because I do not want to jeopardize my new opportunity, we decided to cancel. Luckily, after reading the cancellation fees over and over, we were still within the cancellation time where there would be little to no penalties. When I asked Maureen what the penalties are, she responded quickly with $250 and no other explanation. I reiterated what I had read online and asked her to clarify, and she very hesitantly asked if we ever read the booking she sent in the beginning that stated the fees. Yes, we did, but is it too difficult to do your job and clarify?? All I wanted was a clear picture of what I was losing. Her response then, was $25 Cancel fee, $50 her fee, leaving us with a $1485 credit that was to be used as a "future cruise credit". At least we had answer finally. The way I understood was, $250 deposit would go toward a credit and the rest was to be credited back to the original payment card, (after losing the $25 fee). Whatever, we did not want to argue and had to cancel regardless of her attitude; so after saying, yes please cancel our cruise, she very selfishly said, "sorry to hear that and even more sorry for your friend". Uhm, excuse me??? This is MY trip that I'm losing money over which has nothing to do with our friends! If they had their own personal discount because they gathered a group, hey, I was saving them money to begin with, not making them pay more by cancelling, there's a difference. I was very much looking forward to 7 days of Caribbean fun with friends, and I shouldn't be made to feel guilty for cancelling this super awesome cruise because of a new job that I accepted! And as if I didn't feel bad enough already, she had the audacity to immediately call my friend to tell her that we'd cancelled instead of my being able to talk to her myself to explain why we were no longer going. This is by far the worse experience I've ever had in booking a vacation, and believe me, I'm a traveler. Planning something like this is supposed to be FUN, not stressful. I apologize for being a cruise "newbie" bothering with questions. I guess because she is retiring, she no longer cares about being professional, even if that means being super rude to her friend's friend. I still have every single email and not once ever was there a "thank you", except from me to her. Thankfully, in the end, she was wrong about the numbers and the $250 deposits are now a cruise credit and the remaining balance ($1085) was quietly put back into my account by Carnival. I received no email or call or confirmation from her saying that this was going to happen. Because of her, I'm very sorry to have ever accepted my friend's birthday bash to begin with, and I'm super hesitant to have to book my "future cruise credit" with Black Diamond Travel in the future. read more

This place was rude and not helpful in the slightest. Maureen was unprofessional during our cancelation due to the Zika virus because my wife was pregnant. Would never consider this place again, especially after my wife got a email by someone who is about to use them and they're being the treated the same as us. read more

We just took a trip on the Disney Cruise Line to the Caribbean in September 2015 and she planned out our EVERY steps. After reading a few reviews we decided to select Black Diamond Travel as our Apple Vacations Travel Agent after we booked a trip directly on Apple. We worked with Jean and she was awesome. Our trip was already set and paid for before we chose her but the concern we had was getting an isle seat for my husband who is claustrophobic and can't fly in a middle or window seat. I called Jean and she explained that with package vacations (ours was a package) the airline doesn't open the seats for assignments until 1-2 days before your flight. She assured me that she'd set a reminder to call and do everything she could to get him an isle seat. She was so awesome, she was able to get us an isle seat and called the next week to get another isle for the return. She had us covered in both directions and we couldn't be happier with that level of service! Oh, and she also got us travel document and tips about traveling to Mexico, something the agent our friends were assigned never bothered with. My latest trip was to Jamaica with my husband and 4 of his cousins. Jean was awesome. We stayed at a wonderful All-Inclusive resort in Lucea (40 min. from Negrill). The resort itself was amazing. But everything from coordinating our flights with our family members to her follow up. I trust her explicitly and her rates are so comparable I find no need to buy online.
