Going to Modern Woodmen Park is a must for any baseball fan. It is one of the oldest parks in the nation. Many MLB stars got their careers started here in Davenport, Iowa. This family friendly stadium offers a wide variety of entertainment for the whole family. If the great game of baseball isn't for you, check out the different amusement rides. The Ferris wheel is huge and gives spectators a glimpse of the field and mighty Mississippi River. The concessions have many great foods and drinks to purchase at reasonable prices. You won't go broke here like at a MLB stadium. Where else can you watch a baseball game, see river boats cruise the river, and hear trains fly down the tracks? Modern Woodmen Stadium is the answer.

The Whiteys ice-cream did not have malt cups, supposedly sold out the night before. Piss poor planning for a crowd. I settled for Cheesesteak nachos without onions and peppers in a helmet. Also shared a chip witch or chocolate chip cookie with ice-cream between it. The stadium was really iconic and cool. The Ferris wheel lit up at night. (watch your dog's paws for fish hooks on the bank) The main reason I love this park is the dog park which is divided into three sections. One section for "small dogs" and two sections that they rotate use of so the grass doesn't get wore down and too muddy. The land slopes for great water run off, but does get muddy sometimes. A huge plus is they have benches and trees. The two water fountains have water spigots with attached bowls for dog's use. This spring they fenced off a "small dog" section, but patrons still take their little ones into the other sections to socialize them, because they trust the dog owners are watching over their dogs well. There is friendly adult social time with great advice on area dog places, but always with a watchful eye on their dog responsibilities. I feel comfortable taking my dog here. The toddler section was very nice and safe. The canopy on a portion of it to shield from the sun. The slides seemed appropriate as far as safety. I liked the squishy type ground for this play area. Its a welcomed change from rocks or wood chips. The fencing around the playground is also nice. And more then one park bench inside the fence was appreciated.

My husband got stung by some black bug in the domestic animal area so we were dealing with that. If you go to the gift shop, they had a first aid kit that you could access once you filled out an incident report so they did have sting wipes, hydrocortisone, and some other supplies that helped. The Park is laid out well you can see the entire thing in about two hours. There is a playground so you could stay longer if you wish and it looked like they do allow you to bring in your own food for a picnic. The kids had a great time and we did see some animals that we haven't traditionally seen such as the Asian monkeys, they were absolutely beautiful I love the fact that they do rescue animals and care for them! I will comment on the pricing of the train and the carousel as we are members of the Phoenix zoo and this pricing seems exorbitant- the cost is less at a major metro area in Phoenix than it is for this train ride, and as you can see from my photos, it was mostly empty! Maybe bring that price down so kids can enjoy it how's you're going to be driving around - anyway why drive it empty? There are seven of us in our party so it would've been almost $34 for a quick train ride, please do the math for families and try to make this more affordable. Same with the carousel ride, $4.50 per person, ouch! I do appreciate that the entrance fee is reasonable, it's a small zoo and was an enjoyable day- there is a happy Joe's down the road so we went to lunch versus eating at the zoo $5 parking $10 senior $11 adult $4.75 train $4.50 carousel $2 bag for feeding animals

We met Paul at Albany, IL boat ramp where we began our 4-hour outing. He had a great bass boat with a trolling motor, depth finder/navigation, and power poles. He has fished in many tournaments and was well versed with his equipment. We caught dozens of crappie and a good number of catfish! A few bluegills and a bowfin as well. We kept a good number of the crappie and catfish which made for some great meals back at camp! Anyone unfamiliar with the area should give Paul a call!
