A woman says "I don't know why you come to a pool and don't wanna get wet". To which I replied "since you're so concerned I moved my head so I wouldn't get splashed in the face". Her (assuming) Husband walks over to her and says "what's going on ?" The woman tells him something, and he then comes over to where I am (a good 30 feet away) and gets in my face yelling at me about "what the f*%! you say about my kid??" He was yelling so hard that his fake teeth flew out his mouth. I'm a 6 ft woman and I will not back down from a so called "man" who gets in my face. I backed up moved around and he was still in my face. I moved to the side of the pool to which he followed me and put his arm over mine and continued to yell. I wasn't quiet either, I was yelling telling him to get out of my face. He took a balled up fist and punched his other hand with it IN MY FACE, and flinched at me as if he was going to hit me. I pushed this man away from me and he fell back into the water. There wasn't a single person trying to help me out, no lifeguards blowing whistles or staff coming over. When they finally did, he went over to them and started talking..there were other women around upset because their kids were crying, telling him to stop (at this point I had got out of the poo). NOW people want to come over and talk and give their stories. I left the pool with my kids and called back to talk to the manager. Apparently he did nothing wrong, she said "oh we were looking for you to get your story". NO THANKS MUSCATINE AQUATIC CENTER! This man may like to intimidate women, but this one stood her ground! This is a beautiful park with super interesting geological formations (especially striking at the…read morelower level picnic area and the Punchbowl Trail). For a quick visit the Punchbowl Trail is a good short hike (a couple of miles to and back?) but there are some steep stairs if you end up on certain paths. To avoid the stairs park at the lower level and hike on the (mostly) level path to and back... The Boundary Trail is also awesome and usually very peaceful, but it takes quite a bit longer and there will be a few steep hills... The Pine Creek Grist Mill is a picturesque historic site in the park, with its own spacious parking lot, a cool bridge across the creek, and an old schoolhouse and cabin...the mill is open limited hours during part of the year...it was interesting to see the mill machinery and learn about the historic flour-making processes (but it's very hot in the building during the summer months)... Nice shelters and campsites, too, some with fireplaces and fire pits...there's probably not a spot in the park that is not scenic!

The park is not very big. We went on an hiking trail near the parking lot. It would have been nice to have some sort of map or marking/signs in the park but we failed to find any. As an result I think we made a wrong turn and had too short of a hike as the result. No running water available in the bathroom so be prepared to bring hand sanitizer. But otherwise the visit was enjoyable, my friends' bunny enjoyed hopping around on the grass near the picnic area (pretty clean).

There is a very large group of "regulars" who stay there all summer long. They are not welcoming and downright rude to people visiting "their" camp ground. It leads to a hostile environment. Beware. Scott County has campgrounds in the area with a more family friendly inviting atmosphere.

My husband got stung by some black bug in the domestic animal area so we were dealing with that. If you go to the gift shop, they had a first aid kit that you could access once you filled out an incident report so they did have sting wipes, hydrocortisone, and some other supplies that helped. The Park is laid out well you can see the entire thing in about two hours. There is a playground so you could stay longer if you wish and it looked like they do allow you to bring in your own food for a picnic. The kids had a great time and we did see some animals that we haven't traditionally seen such as the Asian monkeys, they were absolutely beautiful I love the fact that they do rescue animals and care for them! I will comment on the pricing of the train and the carousel as we are members of the Phoenix zoo and this pricing seems exorbitant- the cost is less at a major metro area in Phoenix than it is for this train ride, and as you can see from my photos, it was mostly empty! Maybe bring that price down so kids can enjoy it how's you're going to be driving around - anyway why drive it empty? There are seven of us in our party so it would've been almost $34 for a quick train ride, please do the math for families and try to make this more affordable. Same with the carousel ride, $4.50 per person, ouch! I do appreciate that the entrance fee is reasonable, it's a small zoo and was an enjoyable day- there is a happy Joe's down the road so we went to lunch versus eating at the zoo $5 parking $10 senior $11 adult $4.75 train $4.50 carousel $2 bag for feeding animals

What I was unaware of was that by paying online my card was signed up for payments to be taken from my card the 1rst of every month. I did not catch the charges until August. I contacted the YMCA concerning the issue. I NEVER EVER WOULD HAVE SIGNED UP FOR PAYMENTS TO COME OUT OF MY ACCOUNT ON THE 1RST AS I DON'T GE PAID UNTIL THE 4TH. ALSO, I WAS BEING CHARGED $37. AND IN APRIL THE PAYMENT CHANGED TO $18.50 PLUS ONLINE PAYMENT CHARGES. They did refund $18.50 minus the online charges because those are non refundable... but basically inferred I was an idiot because I didn't read every word on the page or disclosure. I tried to tell Margret there was a problem with their online program. I do not believe I am the only person effected. They got this New 360 page which is totally confusing as I was told I needed to pay on there. I am not sure why they have 2 pages for the YMCA to get info and to find out their schedules, make payments and so on. Why not just have it all on 1 site? I have been going to the YMCA since I was 5yeaars old with my father. I am 65years old. I LOVE THE YMCA. IT HAS PROVIDED MYSELF AND MY FAMILY WITHWONDWERFUL OPPORTUNITIES. McManus Park has a lot of things for kids of various ages to play with. Swings, slides, rock…read moreclimbing, etc. The downside is the amount of bugs is mind-boggling. As a parent, I was tired swatting the bugs but the kids were having fun.
