Ok here we go. My shower was leaking into my daughters bedroom. Called these guys to come look at it. I was using my home warranty so needed to call a plumber. These guys come up first so figured they are the best. Guy comes out to look at leak. Had me open up the walls to see where the leak is. Had to do to see where the leak was coming from I guess. I'm not a professional at all so that's why we called for help. I would think a trained professional would first start with the basic checks right? I mean if this is your field wouldn't you do a process of elimination? Start with the basic stuff? No he didn't, cut a whole in my wife's closet ! To see the shower plumbing from behind. I mean yes I would want to make sure it's not leaking. I get that! But why not start with checking the basic stuff??? All that was leaking was the strainer! The seal had worn off so it wasn't sealed and water was just leaking from the seal !! He never checked it!!! Or I am thinking he knew what it was??? Well he said it would be $900 to replace the pipes and secure it . ALL IT NEEDED WAS TO RESEAL THE STRAINER $3.00 for plumbers putty!!! I watched YouTube and what do you know. Leak stopped!! It's sad. Had I not watched YouTube then I would of paid. For nothing! Again, he didn't or he did? Check the simplest of things. read more

I have had sub par service from Black Hills Plumbing twice. Once he came to repair an old furnace which he replaced a furnace control board with another used one or one he thought might work came back a few times still didnt work, and then I had to call Distinct Plumbing and Cooling to fix it properly which used one that was compatible which worked. Then unfortunately I had left his business card by tank and my tenants called him to repair water leak. After 3 visits and $400, water is not leaking he replaced everything but the controller which ATCO gas says is not working so more money to be spent. So 2 different occasions he did not have the right parts to do the job properly. :( read more

Have a mobile home and my water froze up. Got in touch with Cathy at Black Hills via Yelp, she got back to me within an hour. Plumber Ron called me and offered to come out on a -20 something Friday night to crawl around under my trailer. (This guy is die hard). Ron diagnosed the issue, explained it so thoroughly that I believe my dog understood. He installed heat tape that I supplied, and even went as far as to gather insulation that was placed in weird places and move it to a place where it would be effective. Had many suggestions of how to proceed and what to look for going forward. I didn't ask Ron specifically to come out after hours as I didn't want the extra expense for an emergency call. Ron charged a fair amount for his labour and diagnosis time and instead of an emergency call fee, he suggested a half hour for travel time which I thought was more than fair considering the job, conditions, location and time. Have now had three experiences with Black Hills Plumbing and all have been very positive! My parents' house had a nasty clog that was backing up the sink in the kitchen. Not only was it fixed, but the source of the recurring problem was explained to my parents and they were given advice on how to prevent it from happening again. So far so good! It was such a positive and friendly experience that when the water heater wasn't working properly they called him back again. Once more, not only did he fix the problem, but he explained it too! I was present for this repair and he told me exactly what he was doing and why every step of the way. Then he made sure I understood how to set my parents' water heater to prevent future problems. He gave my parents a senior discount on both jobs. I hired him on the spot to do some work at my own small business. He was flexible with my difficult schedule and showed up when I was closed, because having a plumber in when I was open would be nearly impossible for my business, he fixed the problem I'd been struggling with for 8 months with the same step by step explanations so I knew exactly what I was paying for and why. It's been a few weeks now and everything is working better than ever. Our hot water tank went and I researched reviews and called Ron. We chatted on the phone for over half an hour discussing options and pros and cons relevant to each.He offered to come out immediately,with a very fair quote. We really wanted to look further into a tankless, which Ron doesn't do,so looked around and were quoted much higher on a tank. In the end, he came over fast, did everything right, explained his work, carted away the old tank, and insisted on servicing our nasty old furnace as well. More remarkably, knowing we're on a fixed income, he undercharged us ridiculously (1 hour, not the 3.5 he actually spent). He even took the part information for the furnace repair we know we'll need soon so as to have it when we do. We're fans.Totally. An honest plumber is a beautiful thing. read more

Pump in the basement died, called this guy. Very rude and condescending, trouble communicating as well. He installed a pump and then water would back up into the sink and omit bad smells. Called the guy to fix the issue, yells at me, hangs up on me. I find out from other plumbers that the system he installed was illegal and won't come back to fix the issue. Charged for 5 hours worth of work, but only spent 2 hours here (most of that talking). His way of dealing with a call is to first inspect the site, put down whoever did the plumbing before, tell you hes going to fix it all up and charge you ridiculous amounts. I googled the parts he charged for, he marked them up 150% of actual value. Charges ludicrous amounts for smaller parts that are pennies. His own cost is $85/hour. I would say steer clear, better find someone off kijiji and you will have better experience. read more

Loved our interaction with Ron!!! He came out on a Friday night to fix our kitchen sink when his competitors were going to charge us a fortune to do the same or were not available until Monday. One company was going to have two separate crews come out. That would have definitely cost us more than we ended up paying. We had several issues. The kitchen sink was plugged up, there was a crack in the drain pipe underneath the kitchen cabinet and the drain pipe was leaking in the wall. Ron fixed all of these problems then determined that the drain still wasn't draining. It turned out that there was a grease clog in the pipe down in our basement. He cleared the plug and ran degreaser down the drain. He gave us full detail of what had happened and showed us all along the way what was going on. He was also able to give us instructions on how to run our garburator to prevent future plugs and how to prevent grease build-up in the future. We were grateful for his clear instructions. Ron is a good guy. He fixed the problem so that we could live in our house over the weekend. If we had gone with a competitor, we would still be waiting, while having to wash our dishes in the bathroom sink. And we would likely have paid more. Glad we called Black Hills Plumbing!!! read more
