It is just like any public pool. Locker rooms. Pay at the door. Life jackets to borrow! The water feels fantastic. We went for our son (who was 5 at the time), but he went down the big slide once and refused to again. But I went down it nearly half a dozen times and had THE TIME OF MY LIFE! I have NEVER went down a giant water slide - always too self-conscious as a kid. If you go, whoever you are, let yourself have fun! For thousands of years, the Lakota Sioux prized the natural warm water springs, the "Minnekahta," in this valley. In 1890, local businessman Fred Evans built Evans Plunge over the site of numerous sparkling springs and one mammoth spring of mineral water and made Evans Plunge the Black Hills' oldest attraction - older than Mt. 2 Stars…read more Unfortunately, our visit to Evans Plunge in South Dakota was pretty disappointing. We drove about 45 minutes specifically to enjoy the outdoor pool and water slide, especially since it was over 100 degrees outside. After paying admission, we were then told that the outdoor area wasn't available because they didn't have enough staff to operate it. That was extremely frustrating because this is something we really should have been told BEFORE paying to enter. Had we known the outdoor pool and slide were closed, we probably would not have made the trip or paid admission. What made it even more frustrating was seeing staff who, in our observation, seemed to spend quite a bit of time talking with friends rather than actively watching the pool. From our perspective, it made the explanation about being understaffed difficult to understand and left us feeling like opening the outdoor area simply wasn't a priority that day. Another major issue was the lack of seating. There had to be at least 100 people there, yet I would estimate there were maybe 25 chairs, if that, surrounding the pool. There appeared to be plenty of room for additional chairs, and people were left trying to figure out where to sit or even where to safely place their belongings. For a facility people may travel a considerable distance to visit, communication needs to be better. If a major attraction such as the outdoor pool and water slide is unavailable--especially on a 100+ degree day--guests should be informed before purchasing admission. We drove 45 minutes expecting the full experience and unfortunately left disappointed.

Attached to a bowling alley the bar and seating area are upstairs. We had burgers and the kids had chicken tender baskets. Every fry was crispy! Even my sweet potato fries which can be floppy at times. The burgers were very good. Toppings were plentiful. The ranch was as homemade and basically drinkable. The server/bartender was very friendly. The guys in the kitchen brought our food out and were very kind as well. I also want to mention their on tap Diet Coke was perfection. Rivaling the crispness of the golden arches. You definitely should check this place out.

There are a surprising number of weight machines, weights, elliptical, treadmill, spin bikes and other exercise equipment. Facility is well used but not crowded. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Various classes are offered. No problem if you don't have yoga pads, blocks, bands, etc as loaners are available at no extra charge. For travelers, there is a reasonable daily rate. For long term visitors, there is a monthly rate which can be put on-hold at a nominal charge during the months you are away from Custer. There is an off-sight pool located a few blocks away. Overall, this is an excellent facility and great value. Recommend and will return!

When we came back it took us less than 10 minutes to deflate and put everything back. This is the opposite of that!!…read more This is no different than going to someone's ranch who lets you ride their horses around their land with them. 2 hours of awesomeness!! Wranglers with personalities, stories, jokes, and just fun to be around. They provided all the guidance necessary for those in our party with no experience, while allowing those with the freedom to control the horse. Beautiful scenery, varying terrain, and even the opportunity to trot the horses a little bit. There's nothing like it in the Black Hills. Hands down the favorite activity of the trip for every member of our party!! Oh yeah...they take pictures the whole time and send them to you for no charge on the spot when you're done!! Definitely on our to do list on our next trip out there.

Where…read moreyou start the trail has a small parking area so come early for parking because it fills up in the afternoon b. This is a very popular area for hiking and there are trails that connect with this one if you are looking to hike further. The trail starts at the Cathedral Spires trailhead and parking lot on The Needles Highway. The views of the Cathedral Spires are absolutely stunning. This well-marked trail has a steep gradient and rocky terrain so make sure to wear good hiking shoes. We climbed over lots along this trail so come prepared and bring water with you. Take some time to soak in the views here because they are truly incredible!
