Went to grab a quick lunch in downtown Jefferson at Black Jack's! I got the Black Jack Burger (beef patty, bun, pepper jack cheese, grilled pineapple, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo) and Iced Tea. I have no notes, this was a classic burger: I loved the hint of spice from pepperjack, the sweet contrast from the pineapple, and the patty was perfectly cooked. The pub chips were well-seasoned and crispy. The iced tea had just the right amount of sugar, and was very refreshing. The ambiance is fine: a bit dim inside, but there's also outside seating. Service was friendly & fast. Parking is free in downtown Jefferson. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Honestly, I really wanted to like this place, (despite the reviews) but the food just didn't do it for me. Everything looked decent, but the flavors were super bland--like they forgot the salt and spices altogether. Nothing was terrible, just really underwhelming. The vibe of the place is super casual and low key. The bartender who waited on us was attentive but wasn't very friendly. This may be the best burger in North Carolina. A thick, freshly made hamburger patty, cooked to order. Served with BBQ sauce, Pepper Jack cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. This is a flavorful burger with lots of add ons available. They offer a variety of burgers or build your own. Comes with chips, but you can choose hand-cut fries, pub chips, onion rings, etc. Very casual atmosphere. Good selection of draft and bottle beer. I absolutely loved this place. My boyfriend and I had take out the first time. He ordered bbq wings and I mild with fries. It was so so good. The wings were so flavorful and tasted amazing. We got take out on a Saturday night and noticed no one was there. We thought we made a mistake by ordering but the food was soo good. The fries were crispy and tasted amazing. The service was so wonderful. The lady with the bun was so so nice and sweet. The next time we came in had wings again and my boyfriend had the black jack burger. He loved the burger and ate it all!! We come to this area once a year. I've brought friends and family each with various tastes. We have always thought it to be decent until this time. We sat outside which was nice. The service was slow to start, but picked up after we made mention that we were ready to order. My husband got the 6 wings to start. The wings were sooooo small it looked like baby bird wings. Seriously! 4 wings would equal 1 regular wing. I ordered the chicken Gyro. Lacking is all I can say. I should have taken a picture so you'd believe me. Cold chewy chicken cut into tiny pieces, diced onion, diced tomatoes, and olives. There was more pita than there was filling. The fry up charge is 4.99. ‍ I got the fry's and it was the best part of my meal. Of course they took the sandwich off my bill and the server was kind about it. I was not mad at her. We walked in and were told to sit wherever we'd like to. Someone greeted us right away and came to take our drink order. We decided on a French fry basket for an appetizer since fries/pub chips don't come with entrees. A bag of potato chips is included in lieu of fries. My husband & I both ordered burgers. We weren't asked how we wanted them cooked and we also weren't asked which kind of cheese we wanted, so we both forgot to mention it and apparently by default cheese is not included on the burgers. We also ordered wings at the same time. My burger was pretty good, although a bit overcooked, and I was hoping for fresh guacamole but it tasted a lot like the kind you buy at the grocery store. The wings ended up coming out about 20 minutes after our burgers, but she kindly took 30% off the bill because of that. I think their kitchen must be pretty small because they weren't packed but everything was kinda slow to come out. This place is a bit expensive for what you receive, in my opinion. However, the ranch is something to write home about!! It's my favorite kind, when you can tell it's house made and a tad bit loose/watery. read more

Awesome outside seating and dogs are welcome outside. Right on the main drag Jefferson Ave. Voted Best Burgers according to a sign, the smell made us stop and the Cali burger did not disappoint. Kayla was our server and she did a fantastic job, she was sweet and hustling to take care of the Labor Day Monday crowd. We loved the outside vibe of a busy downtown. read more

I've been here several times and usually sit outside which is nice. Tonight was different as it was so cold. I sat at the bar. Five people beside me using the F word in every sentence and vaping INSIDE. The music was offensive. Not typical of a mountain town. The food was meh. There was a dog running around - not a service or therapy dog - just running around. I get small towns. Walked in here after a day of shopping and was pleasantly surprised with all the cool decorations. They even had a jukebox that you could pick songs from your phone on. We were told to sit wherever and the waitress came over rather quickly and took our order. I didn't know if I wanted a burger or their "famous" wings, so we got both. The burger only came with a side bag of chips (should be a crime) so we had to get an appetizer order of fries. The fries were relatively bland and just overall had a weird texture too them. Burger came out and was extremely overdone and dry. Bacon on the burger was decent and I was happy they used fresh Jalapeños and not pickled ones. I had finished my burger and the waitress came out and said the wings would be another 10 minutes. It ended up being about 20 and I just asked for a box as I was no longer hungry. I ended up trying one before we left and it was halfway decent but nothing to write home about. Average food at best, service and environment was decent. There are many fine establishments in West Jefferson. This is not one of them. Ok to have a drink, but the food is laughable and giving it a way for free would still be overpriced. I hate to have to say this, but they need a wakeup call or sell the location to someone who cares. read more

The food is always great. The problem comes in at the pricing. I had a Turkey melt which was $14.99 which is overpriced for what it is however it would have been ok if it had come with fries but it didn't. It was a an additional $4.99 for FRIES! It was $20.00 for a damn turkey melt sandwich! $20.00! Ridiculous! My wife had a Texas hold'em which is shaved ham, grilled onions,BBQ sauce and American Cheese for $14.95 Again with chips as a side or a $4.99 up charge for fries. The beer prices were reasonable at $6.00 a beer. In the future, I'll probably stop in for a beer but eat elsewhere. $60.00 for a small town pub lunch is outrageous. Definitely a solid burger spot located in the heart of West Jefferson. We enjoyed everything we ordered... my only complaint is the limited choice of included sides. You get a $0.30 bag of lays potato chips or you can get fries for an additional $3.49. I get that fries are more expensive but I would factor that into my menu prices and offer housemate chips along with fries as i think that provides a better experience. The pricing (without fries) is also a little high... our family of six spent $96 for lunch without any appetizers and mostly water. That's including the 18% tip and It's a tourist area so I'm used to paying a premium but that's why I landed on a 3 versus a 4. I would still definitely go back! read more

Firstly, love the vibe here! It's laidback, filled with locals and you just can kick back and have a delicious meal. My hubby and I were staying in an Airbnb right above the restaurant and we popped down for a late dinner. We seated ourselves when we got there and started looking at the menu. Our server came right by and was very friendly. We ordered a few appetizers to start. The fried green tomatoes are ah-mazing! You can tell they are homemade and fried to perfection. I had to fight off the hubby to eat them. I ordered the meatball sub and it was so darn good. The meatballs were tasty and not dry. The tomato sauce was good and the bread was held it all together. We started with the onion pedals and it all went down hill from there. "Best Burgers in Town" sign out front. That's a laugh. Ordered a bacon cheese burger medium rare. The wafer thin patty came out burned and over cooked. The fries were cold. The wife got a Ruben that looked good if you could get past the 12 inch hair she pulled out of it. Stayed in an AirBnB next door to Black Jacks and while the AirBnB was nice, we truly felt like our trip was made by the people, food and fun that Black Jacks gave us (and our toddler!) Everything we ate was so delicious, the people really made it extra special though. We never felt bad for our toddler helping to entertain fellow guests or get some giggles in with the staff. It was also nice to walk downstairs and grab a beverage when the toddler was snoozing right upstairs (our baby monitor stays in perfect range!) Cannot recommend this place enough, if not for the tasty food, but for the amazing people who work here. Cannot wait to come back on our next WJ trip. read more

Had lunch here with 3 friends. Asked if I could swap the chips for fries with my sandwich. Server did not say what the upcharge would be. It was $5! One of my friends did the same thing but she wasn't charged the upcharge price. She paid and left. When I questioned it, the server said she would get the manager. The manager came to the table and demanded that one of us pay the $5 for my friend. I said her tab was wrong and it wasn't her fault. The manager raised her voice and said none of us could leave until someone paid that $5. She was livid. Over $5! It was the server's mistake. Apparently the server had added the $5 upcharge to someone else's tab by mistake. The manager wasn't having it! She again said we had to pay it and she wasn't going to just "eat" it. She was yelling by this point. It was crazy. So we paid it just to shut her up. She bullied us into paying when it was the restaurant's error. I went here for lunch with my father, and I was extremely disappointed with the food quality. We paid a little under $40 for a burger and chicken sandwich that would be better served at a highschool cafeteria. They were fine, but they were NOT WORTH THAT AMOUNT. On top of the subpar food quality, the ambience of the restaurant was in the gutter. The music was so loud I could not hear my dad speaking to me across the table--along with the fact the system was not playing full songs, and instead would skip to another random assortment of abrasive nonsense every thirty seconds When we asked about possibly turning it down the waiter told us y'all had lost the remote. To me, that speaks volumes of the poor management and poorer willingness to listen to costumer complaints. If a system is broken, or unable to be adjusted, that system should be turned off until it can be properly monitored. And my final complaint: your staff was unwilling to box our food to go in a quick and efficient manner until we threatened to leave without paying. I'd also like to point out the manager's poor responses to other negative reviews, so make sure to keep that in mind as well! DO NOT GO HERE. read more

One of the better places for a lunch in West Jefferson. On the main drag. Advertises the best burger in town. A bar with a good kitchen. I ordered the build your own burger and it was great. A good hunk of pure beef, no fillers, on a soft bun. Very juicy and I in a white fleece. That said, I was careful to hold the burger over the plate and was successful to escape without a stain. Wife had an order of their meatballs which was even better than their burger. I was allotted a "bite" to try a small piece of one. The meatballs are hand formed, baked and serve covered with a homemade marinara, which was very tasty and a snowfall of parmigiana cheese. An excellent big snack or small meal. Their bar is truly a sports bar. Four pillars holding up the roof are: a stack of footballs, a stack of soccer balls, a stack of basketballs and a huge baseball bat. Colorful and very appropriately cute. Lots of good draft beers. I only had time for one. This is the place to go. read more
