This was only the second time we've been to The local, but it's because the first experience with the service & amazing food was so amazing that we had to make the drive back! I ordered the shrimp & grits and it's been all I thought about since the first time I had it! The flavors blend beautifully and the grits are amazing! My daughter got their Stuffed French Toast (peaches & cream) with fresh fruit! Looked fantastic! We love the outdoor seating which allows us to bring the dog, but the indoor ambiance is wonderful! I was visiting my son in Boone, as we move him into college... Ordered the wings, I had what I believe was a blackened goat cheese, and fig burger with caramelized onions, which was off the charts, my son had the Salmon. Ratings- He gave the salmon a seven I give my Burger a nine, and the wings were about a seven(dry rub). That said, sitting at the bar was absolutely a treat... Erin was fantastic. Stopped in here to grab a bite to wrap up our day of exploring. There was a very long wait, but we were table to get seats at the bar. Bar tender provided menus, and checked back on us after a few minutes to take order. They've got a good menu with pizza, sandwiches, burgers, and a good variety of entrees (seafood, steak, chicken, pasta), basically, they've got something for everyone. Not being too hungry, but knowing we needed something, we decided to just split an order of the pulled pork nachos. The food came out fairly quickly, looked and tasted great. They did not skimp on toppings. Staff was friendly, food was good, only complaint is it was very dark inside, and surprisingly loud in the restaurant, I can't imagine being there with live music, I assume it would be impossible to have a conversation. read more

We tried to get a table here almost every day of our 5-day trip, but it was packed! We finally smartened up and called a day ahead for a reservation. It might have just been the holiday rush, but I always figure "busy means good," so my expectations were high--and The Local didn't disappoint. We started with the nachos; they were delicious, though I do wish they came with a bit more meat. For mains, the burger was outstanding--probably one of the best we've had in the entire area. We also ordered the Brazilian steak, which was cooked perfectly and came with great plantains. The quinoa with tofu was good, too, though it was a little dry and would have been perfect with a sauce. The service really stood out. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and refilled my water at least four times without me asking. Great ambiance and an all-around good experience. On my recent trip to Boone, my friends and I wanted a night out from the cabin we were staying in and several people recommend The Local to us. This definitely seems like a beloved local bar - and has all the things you'd come to expect from a local bar. Strong drinks at a good price, friendly service, and solid food. We were a group of about 10 on a Saturday night, so I was pleasantly surprised with how short of a wait time we had to be seated. We had started by ordering drinks at the bar and by the time we were almost done with our first round our table was sat. I opted to split the steak frites and fish and chips with my friend. I loved the steak frites. I'm always a sucker for a medium rare steak and some form of potato. While service was friendly, it was a little slow - but I am assuming that's because of our large group on a busy weekend night. Would definitely go back next time I'm in Boone. read more

Beth was such a great server! The way she described the Caesar Brussel sprouts was enough to make my friend and I drool. (We both got that as our sides). She was always on top of our table. Avoid. Not a great brunch spot. Stopped in for breakfast on our way traveling through town, on a rainy day. The wait was long, and one couple jumped everyone in line; they just sat at an outside table and when asked to move (management pointed out there was a line), they didn't. They still ordered, and received food (not a good precedent to set for all the customers watching). For breakfast I ordered the "Simple Breakfast"- eggs, bacon, and sourdough bread. We were hungry and wanted to grab something on our road trip home and decided to stop in Boone. We looked over our Yelp bookmarks and after confirming App State was playing away this weekend, we decided to stop in to The Local. Regardless of football season, the traffic and parking downtown can be a struggle. After reading several reviews, we believe we saved this because of fellow Yelpers, Mike and Marie O. who visited in May of this year. When we arrived, the wait we were quoted was over 90 minutes. We asked if the bar offers open seating and we were told yes. We told them we were comfortable sitting at the bar since there was only two of us. They approximated we could be seated in about 10 to 15 minutes, which sounded great to us! Because it was very cold during our visit (in the 30's) we waited inside the entry which is very small. Every time the door opened, a blast of cold air hit us. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait long. We had already perused the menu and had a good idea of what we wanted to order. Our server, a friendly young woman, took our drink orders and provided menus. We asked for her recommendations and quickly decided to order the following: My wife chose the Roasted Salmon (Grilled Scottish salmon served over a bed of caesared brussels sprouts with applewood smoked bacon & roasted turmeric cauliflower), and a side of sweet potato fries. I picked the O.G. BURGER, a char-grilled burger served on a toasted brioche bun. I chose Swiss, lettuce, applewood smoked bacon with red onion. The overall feel of The Local is very quaint and comfortable, and the two ladies servicing the bar area were both very competent and friendly. Our orders arrived in a timely manner and looked absolutely delicious. Lucky for us they tasted as fantastic as they looked! We would definitely recommend to others when staying or passing through Boone and look forward to stopping in again. We really enjoyed our long weekend trip to the Johnson City, Tennessee area. We were there for dinner. Beth was our waitress and did a wonderful job. She was at our table quickly, took our drink orders and went to fill them, came back timely with them and took our appetizer order. She was very pleasant and very timely with checking on our dinner order and if everything was good afterwards. The food was totally awesome. Salmon was excellent, Brussel sprouts were awesome to the level I asked her if she knew the recipe and she gave us a good general way of how they are made. My boyfriend and I went on a date here tonight, the food was great! Carson was our server. We waited on drinks (water & coke) for at least 15 and didn't get our food until an hour after we sat. It wasn't busy at all, we're both servers, we know it gets hard sometimes but she never even asked how our food was and didn't come back until my boyfriend's plate was already prebussed. The Local is one of my favorite places to bring people when they visit Boone! I've had many of their dishes and decided to try their trout for the first time. The trout was cooked perfectly, and the balsamic glaze heightened the flavors. We always get quick service once we get seated. Inside is a bit dark, so when it is nice outside I enjoy sitting in the covered patio area. I've had better Rieslings before, but their cocktails are usually a hit! It was a busy night but service was great, had to wait about 30 minutes for a table but they add you to a waitlist so you can look around the area and text you when your table is ready. They had nice music and heat lamps for outside dining as well as enclosed from weather. Only thing that is difficult is parking. They have an area that has some spaces but was under construction and is mixed parking for other business. It could just be that we weren't familiar with where most people park but make sure you check before parking anywhere as they have tow signs and they do enforce that. read more

This was another pick from some YouTube trip reviews of Boone. It reminded me of some of the places I would go when I lived in Texas. Since we came at an off time of 2 pm it was fairly empty. There is a bar area at the entrance with seating and seating outside but we were inside today. I had talked to a woman at at local shop and she said the pulled pork nachos with a Cheerwine sauce were here favorite, that sounded interesting so I got it. The sauce did have the flavor but I ended up with a lot of chips and nothing else. I did have the Brussel sprouts which were excellent with the sauce having an Asian flavor that complemented them well. Service was good, I would say it was a good place for lunch. read more

My husband and I stopped for a bite to eat at The Local. The restaurant wasn't very busy when we arrived, but we had to wait eight minutes for our server to take our drink order. By the time the server finally came to get our drink order, we already knew what we wanted to eat. We placed our order, and the food was served fairly quickly. However, the server didn't check on us to see if we needed drink refills. I also want to note that the bathrooms were dirty and had a bad smell. I don't understand why this place is so highly rated. Family of five went there today for lunch. The service was average, the food was subpar and it's pricey for what you get. They upcharge $2 for a slice of cheese on a $14 hamburger, upcharge for French fries and they charge $.50 for some honey mustard. The Boonie burger was charred so much there was no taste other than the charr on the burger. I would recommend going somewhere else if your in the neighborhood. read more
