tattoo looked good for 24 hrs

I traveled from Utah to Madison to get tattooed by Derek. I was really excited. However I got a deadly staph infection after getting tattooed here. Derek did not properly wrap this tattoo. He used meat absorbing pads when I had a huge open wound. He didn't even have me sign a waiver. When I reached out to Derek he said it looks irritated. Which made the infection even worse because I didn't see the doctor sooner. As a heavily tattooed person this is not a normal experience. They do not care about human health and safety. I do not recommend this shop.

Visited Black Moon on a referral from out of town. The shop was super clean and the artist are professional and friendly. They were able to get me in and out quickly with exactly what I described. I couldn't be more happy. If you are looking for some ink in Madison, definitely check them out!

This place is amazing. It's a small shop with quality artists. I went to Aaron and he did an AMAZING piece on my thigh. Before I came in for my appointment, we exchanged emails so he could keep me in the loop with what he was drawing up and to ask me questions. No other artist has done that for me. He is exceptional and I'll be returning to him. Give this place a try!

I went to Black Moon Tattoo to have a memorial tattoo done. This was also my first tattoo and I felt the shop was very welcoming. The shop itself is a great little space that is very clean and well kept. I worked with Zach, who did a fantastic job taking some of my ideas and turning into a awesome piece of art. I will definitely go back to Black Moon Tattoo again and again.

Oh man, I love this place. I have been seeing Zach for a while now and recently had my first appointment in his new space! I can't say enough good things about Zach in general. He does amazing American traditional and is also so easy to work with--he approaches everything with enthusiasm and it's clear he puts 100% into every tattoo he does. I completely trust his vision when it comes to both artwork and placement. For the tattoo I got this week on my shoulder, I had initially envisioned it oriented more towards the front of my arm. He explained that it would flow better if its center was positioned more on my outer arm, and of course he was completely right. It looks amazing and flows perfectly with my body and other tattoos! The aesthetic of the shop is killer, without being pretentious. The open layout is fun as you can talk with other artists and customers. And being on E Johnson there are tons of cool places nearby for drinks/dinner/shopping, and lots of people & dog watching :)

Terrible terrible tattoo. Read my review for details.

Got a tattoo 12 days ago and the whole bottom lines are blown out and mostly all the corners aren't even touching. Also some lines have fallen out. Really bummed out with the result of this tattoo. Felt to me that the artist rushed as he did this in 5 min. Even though it's a small tattoo, most of my small tattoos take even longer sometimes to make sure everything is perfect and nothing falls out. Not happy UPDATE : resolved by owner. Was very quick and easy when it came to figure out a resolution.

The shop was clean and the staff was friendly and able to get me in for a quick walk-in. I went there to get a small moon, and thought Black Moon would be perfect. I gave a reference picture (which is admittedly not perfect as I am not an artist) and explained that I wanted the sun and outline of the moon to make a perfect circle, and that the moon should come up to the 4th notch on one side and the 1st notch on the other side (like my reference pic). The result was that the tattoo is not at all a perfect circle, which is really unfortunate because this tattoo was supposed to be all about symmetry. The line work is shaky and uneven, and the moon goes up past the 4th and 1st notches. Really sloppy job and I wish I hadn't walked into this shop. I will probably end up getting this removed.

Horrible customer service and messy management. Never ever made it to the appointment as I was so turned off by their unprofessionalism.

I'm sure the artists are great, and I liked what I saw. However, let's get into it. I believe I scheduled my first consultation attempt a month in advance. The DAY BEFORE, I get a call at work. Something came up, does 2:30 work? I said no, because I am an adult that can't come places at 2:30 on a Thursday with no notice. We agreed on 3 and I said sure. (I had a doctors appointment.) I cancel my 3 o'clock appointment with my nail girl. I get a call not even ten minutes later, again at work. 3 doesn't work. Awesome! I schedule for 2:30 the next day. I then get a text at almost 10 AT NIGHT. Another client rescheduled, which I thought would not affect my appointment as I'd made it so far in advance but evidently not! I ended up going with somewhere else due to the unprofessionalism, but was kind in my response anyways (because why be nasty?). I basically just said I thought G-d was telling me not to because it'd been cancelled so many times. But, what rubbed me the wrong way was "that might be the case". I'm sorry, but how is you rescheduling me three times G-d? I was being nice. Be real.

Review / Complaint About My Experience With David at Steve's Tattoo…read moreI've been getting tattooed at Steve's Tattoo for years -- by Steve himself and by many artists who've come and gone, including David, who this review is specifically about. Up until recently, I actually liked David's work. He's done multiple tattoos on my sleeve and even tightened up some older pieces to make everything flow together. His talent can be great when he actually tries. But what happened this year is something people deserve to be warned about. 1. The First Red Flag Last year David tattooed a tarot card of my dog on my bicep. The work turned out great, but his behavior that day was... off. He was short, rude, and uninterested in even basic communication. I brushed it off as a bad day. We talked afterward about finishing my sleeve, so I assumed things were fine. 2. October 26th Appointment - The Point Where Everything Went Sideways I booked an appointment for October 26th at noon to finish some filler on my sleeve. What actually happened: He made me wait over 30 minutes just to start setting up. He barely spoke and acted irritated from the second I walked in. I explained what I needed: the same pattern and color he started near my wrist, carried up the rest of the arm. I put my headphones in because the tension was so uncomfortable. While he was tattooing, it felt like he kept going over the same spots repeatedly. I have tattoos on my neck and feet -- I know what tattoo pain and swelling look like. This was different. When I looked, the area was extremely red, raised, and bleeding more than anything I've ever had. When I got home, I realized why: He only used ONE color -- and it was the WRONG color. The design didn't match my sleeve at all. It looked sloppy, rushed, and honestly more like flames than the pattern he originally created. It already looked like something that will age terribly. I emailed him politely because I was genuinely afraid I had somehow upset him and he did this intentionally. That's how uncomfortable and off his behavior was. He told me to come back on December 10th so he could "fix it." 3. December 10th - The Gaslighting & Disrespect I went to my appointment today hoping he would make it right. Instead: He completely gaslit me. He insisted the tattoo "is the same" (it absolutely is not). He claimed "there's no room," "it would look crowded," and "that's the best he can do." When I showed him the areas that are clearly different, he just argued and dismissed everything. And then he said the part that really tells you everything you need to know: "I don't want to work on it anymore." "You're being too emotional." "I just don't feel like it." He refused to finish the work he messed up. I begged, I reasoned, I even offered to pay him AGAIN just to fix the damage -- because I've already had multiple artists start and stop this sleeve and I wanted the same person to finish it. He didn't care. When I asked for Steve's contact info, he refused to give it to me. When I turned to look for a business card, he literally yelled at me: "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? THE DOOR IS RIGHT THERE." He treated me like trash and threw me out of the shop after knowingly giving me a tattoo that doesn't match, isn't the right color, and was done so aggressively that it raised and bled more than any tattoo I've ever had. 4. Why I'm Warning People I've never disrespected an artist. I tip well. I sit still. I don't complain. I've never caused a scene or been rude. There was absolutely no reason for him to treat me the way he did. And here's the truth: **If David gives you work you don't like, he will NOT fix it. He will gaslight you, blame you, and then kick you out.** I don't know if he was having a bad month, a bad year, or if something happened between appointments. But what I DO know is this: What he did to my arm was careless and nothing like the work he is capable of when he actually tries. And the way he treated me -- after years of being a good client -- was inhumane, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. People deserve to know.
