They are meaningful, each are well thought out, personal, and purposeful. Obviously everyone wants the tattoo to look great, but I also want the experience to be positive. Well, I didn't want to leave a review until I'd had my consultation-- but I was rescheduled almost three times and decided not to go through with it, so my review is based solely on customer service. I'm sure the artists are great, and I liked what I saw. However, let's get into it. I believe I scheduled my first consultation attempt a month in advance. The DAY BEFORE, I get a call at work. Something came up, does 2:30 work? I said no, because I am an adult that can't come places at 2:30 on a Thursday with no notice. We agreed on 3 and I said sure. (I had a doctors appointment.) I cancel my 3 o'clock appointment with my nail girl. I get a call not even ten minutes later, again at work. 3 doesn't work. Awesome! I schedule for 2:30 the next day. I then get a text at almost 10 AT NIGHT. Another client rescheduled, which I thought would not affect my appointment as I'd made it so far in advance but evidently not! I ended up going with somewhere else due to the unprofessionalism, but was kind in my response anyways (because why be nasty?). I basically just said I thought G-d was telling me not to because it'd been cancelled so many times. But, what rubbed me the wrong way was "that might be the case". It's been months and I've debated putting this up. Let's just say that I'm really glad that the microblading for eyebrows is semi-permanent. The outer ends of my eyebrows have these blotches that look like someone dabbed them on with a crayon. The inner "ends" of my eyebrows are pale, barely there. So I have to lay on the makeup throughout in order to blend in the blotches and the "barely there" areas. Why get microblading when you have to cover it up with makeup? During my first visit, the artist went on and on about how she didn't go for boring classes and seminars, that she had a "mentor" she worked with. I think classes might be better. Honestly, a waste of $$$ I couldn't spare but thought it would work out. It didn't. read more

Brooke is AMAZING. I wasn't 100% about styling and placement of what I wanted, I just knew I wanted it to be dainty. I had no idea that it was even possible to get a tattoo this delicate with lines so thin, so I was unsure going in if I could actually get what I wanted. Audra is an apprentice and posted some drawings she had been doing of fruit and I knew she was the right gal for me! My first tattoo ever (yep even though I'm in my 30s...); been wanting one for a while but hadn't yet found the perfect place or come up with "the perfect design". A friend of mine and all the positive reviews really sold Iron Quill for me, and it didn't disappoint! I used the consult form, said "please pick my artist", and was paired with Joe Anderson - I couldn't have been more amazed with his design for my idea ("cute snapping turtle"). I get so many compliments (cuteness, colors, "looks real!", etc.). And I love working with an artist who knows what he's doing, is professional, and of course nonjudgmental. I'm in my 30s getting my first ink in probably not the most classy spot.. Not a tramp-stamp butt..... you get my drift. I was also amazed at how quickly and how well healing went, especially since the zone had to be covered with clothing. Through the session itself there wasn't a lot of pain, afterwards really no blood (just the plasma n stuff and not even much of that), not much pain at all in the aftermath, peeling around day 3-4, and I'd say it looked fully healed at 2 weeks. Superb!! One more note is that I was quoted for a 4 hour session that ended up going more like 5.5 because Joe really takes his time to do quality work (and I'm pretty sure this is also why the healing went so well). Of course I was only charged for the 4 hours, but going above and beyond like that when he likely just wanted to get home to his family really shows Joe's dedication to his art. My experience at The Iron Quill was better than 5-stars. I was a little disappointed at first that I had to wait a few weeks to get in with Janelle but she was well worth the wait! This is a CLEAN, professional, cool shop where everyone is friendly! I came here and was tattooed by the Joe A. I am completely satisfied with how my tattoo came out and I love it. Joe had a great idea and came up with an awesome concept I couldn't have myself. They play good music here too which I really appreciated. He has a large body of work that is wide, varied, and super well done--which is why I chose him to do my large art nouveau piece (a style that isn't necessarily the norm for tattoos). Travis Smith is, to put it plainly, completely amazing! His talent along with his easy, humble nature is a refreshing change from so many of the attitudes that exist in the tattooing world. He's a wonderful collaborator, a great listener, very creative and always open to ideas. His artistic skills are crazy good to the point that it verges on ridiculous (in a really great way). I went to Iron Quill last week to get a tattoo. I was charged for 4 hours but I was only tattooed for approx 2 hours. I spent the other 2 hours waiting while my tattoo artist took smoke breaks and ate lunch. I feel like I should not be paying for someone to smoke or eat, I am paying for his time to tattoo me. I've waited years to get my first tattoo. My mind would change as to what I wanted and so, I never followed through with any. Met with Jes at the end of April to come up ideas as to what I wanted and the meaning behind it. Went in today and after some honest & much appreciated advice (not always easy to find) from Jes about the 2 "ideas" I had, decided to remove the lyrics from the leg sleeve, and have them be a piece by themselves with room to add on down the road. I wanted to email Iron Quill before leaving a review to discuss my issues, but unfortunately i couldn't find an email or a place on their website to email them. (They only have a consult form) A couple weeks ago i went in and saw Rick with my friend for both of us to get small tattoos. I wanted the saying "be brave;" on my wrist as the last year has been the hardest of my life. The second i showed him my idea, i felt insignificant, and felt like he thought it was just another "basic" tattoo (because he called it a basic tattoo..). My dog died in november, my boyfriend died in february, and my job of six years closed in April. This wasn't a "basic" tattoo to me. We waited in the waiting room for almost an hour while he drew out our tattoos, which didn't bother me. What bothered me was him telling me "this is going to be so easy, it's only going to take four minutes!" And then "tomorrow i have a guy coming in thats getting a $1,600 tattoo! I'm going to make soo much money tomorrow!" I don't care. I will say, the price of $100 for two words was a little crazy to me but i paid it and i tipped 20% because i work in a field that you live off of tips. And while i'll never make $1,600 in a day, i will always tip 20% and higher. Flash forward to now. I'm looking at a tattoo that has a crooked B, wavy letters, and a semi colon thats far less than perfect. Not to mention it looks as old as my tattoo thats 8 months old. This is my fourth tattoo, and i have never left a tattoo shop without getting the "care" talk and talks about getting it touched up in the future, until now. I don't know if that's protocol, but seeing that you guys sell stuff for tattoo care, i would have thought someone would have told me what they were and benefits as i was looking at them. I think you're space is beautiful, and i do think your artists are very talented. I just want you to remember that no matter how small a tattoo may be, it may mean everything to that person. read more

Since then, he has grown his craft above and beyond what you would expect from the best artists. The work he does is exceptional. I set up a consult with Janelle, not very friendly or personable but I didn't think anything of it. We had our consult and agreed on a design and appointment and that was that. About 5 days before my appointment I get an email with a barrage of questions - literally everything we went over in the consult. Was she not listening? Did she forget because she didn't take any notes? Either way, unprofessional, but I replied within a couple hours explaining everything in very explicit detail. Didn't hear back for a couple days...emailed again seeing if our appointment was still confirmed...nothing. Emailed one more time, left a voicemail with the store and a direct message on Janelle's instagram. FINALLY heard back the NIGHT before my appointment that I was being unprofessional contacting her on her day off and that she typically doesn't confirm her appointments because that's what the hefty deposit is for. I held up my end of the deal, but she wasn't doing her part. Long story short, Janelle cancelled my appointment and refunded my deposit because I was simply trying to get in touch with her during her "busy schedule". Not sure what's more important that her paying clients that are trying to get in touch with her, but it must be pretty damn important. Not sure how her tattoo skills are because I never got to witness them, but if she's this stuck up I bet she's pretty good. If you have the patience to deal with her attitude and untimely customer service, be my guest. Maybe you'll have better luck that I did (: read more

I got my second tattoo done here, compared to my first tattoo, which was done in New York, the artists here are much more compassionate and focused on the art, they take their time and care more about the future of your skin rather than getting money in the register. They are not only great artists but also very skilled at their craft of tattooing. I had my tattoo done by the apprentice, Audra, at the time she had only been tattooing for ONE MONTH. Not only did she take my idea and create a beautiful 2D rendition of it (which I couldn't do myself) but she also made it into a unique and personalized peice. In addition to her artistry, the execution was flawless; while showing my heavily inked friends my new permanent accessory none of them could tell that it wasn't done by a veteran tattoo artist, they were all floored when I finally revealed who had done the work! Brandon was really awesome in providing his own artistic ideas for my tattoo, yet also respecting how I wanted it to turn out. He was also extremely honest about the lines being really painful, and the shading less so, and he did a great job encouraging me through the pain. My tattoo looks so awesome and everyone loves it! I've seen Nhia twice now (3 if you include consult) and every time I love her a little bit more. She's super fun to be around and professional. I also have spoken to Jes on a couple occasions about doing a cover up because I love his work as well. I'm not really a review kind of guy. However I'd be remiss if didn't share my thoughts on Iron Quill Tattoo. Getting a Tattoo for most people is a very personal experience, and where you get the work done is an extremely important decision. I hope to make that choice a little easier for you. If you want a tattoo, set up a free consult and start here. I genuinely cannot say enough good things about the place, the people, and the overall experience. YES you will likely have to wait a little while for an opening, this is a good thing, these artists are incredible, hence their time valuable. The actual shop itself is comfortable, and most importantly clean, incredibly clean. Every single person I've encountered working there has been polite and fun to be around, they do a very good job of making people feel comfortable. I'm so happy I'm able to finally start working on a sleeve. I couldn't be happier though that I got the good fortune to be paired up with Andy Hyde. Andy is a really good dude and a hardworking talented artist. He listened to all the stuff I threw at him and was able to really help bring it all together. I trust his judgment and skill, everything he has done for me has turned out significantly better than I had imagined. Getting an entire arm done is not something that happens very quick, it's very important to me to not just like the work but also the person doing it. I have very much enjoyed my time at Iron Quill, just talking with Andy and Janelle (Another outstanding artist) and some of the other people getting ink. All Tattoos have some element of pain or discomfort, Andy does very nice job of minimizing this with a rather "light hand" I have also had the pleasure of meeting the shops owner Jes on a few occasions. (He did my fiancé's brothers cover up, incredible stuff) He is also a very nice guy who clearly runs a top notch business.
