I'm not generally one to write a review, but at this point, if I could put 0 stars I would.. help yourself and read the entire thing.
I took my truck in to get a major oil leak fixed. I was pleased to be told it was a simple fix and taken care of so quickly, as they replaced the crank shaft seal. They charged me less than $200, were quick, kind and efficient, and I was on my way. I appreciated their work and service!
That all changed when I took my first long drive. I left Black Mountain towards Durham NC, and upon my arrival my engine was smoking intensely with oil everywhere under the hood and vehicle.. the exact same issue I had before. Amongst a 3 hour drive, my truck managed to leak all of its 7 quarts of oil and was bone dry... not only was I immediately frustrated with the circumstance, but as well with the mere thought of my engine melting on the way because of a misdiagnosis. I then had it taken to another shop and was told by the mechanic that he was shocked my engine didn't blow up on the way. He told me the oil leak was coming from a quarter-sized hole in my timing cover, that is very close to the crank shaft seal, but was hidden and in a spot easily missed by many inexperienced mechanics.
I proceeded to call Black Mountain Automotive to hear their thoughts, how it may have been missed and if they were willing to work with me on compensation, since they claim their work is guaranteed. To my disappointment, they were not only unwilling to accept the responsibility of their negligence, but also did not seem to care that I could've totaled my vehicle and/or gotten seriously injured along the way.
I had a long conversation with Caleb, the manager, resulting in him claiming that if the other mechanic believed it was a case of negligence, he would be more than happy to cover it. The new mechanic gave me a detailed run through of the issues, showed me the parts, explained why it was likely missed. He said that the hole in my timing cover was caused by months and months of the metal being grounded down, and that he's sure it was there when I took it in. Unfortunately, this is where my grief truly comes in... I tried to get the two mechanics together on the phone, as Caleb requested, and of course Caleb "wasn't in the shop". Since that morning, I have now called a total of 12 times, simply to have a conversation with Caleb. Unfortunately, I have been blatantly avoided. Each time, I have gotten a different excuse of why Caleb is unavailable and that "he will call me back".
1. Sorry, he's at lunch. I'll have him call you when he gets back.
2. Sorry, he's in the bathroom. I'll have him call you right when he gets out.
3. Sorry he's elbow deep in a vehicle right now. I'll have him call you back.
4. Sorry, he's moving vehicles around in the lot. He'll call you when he comes back inside.
5. Sorry he isn't in today. I can have him call you back tomorrow.
6. Sorry he's running a few errands, I'll have him call you back.
7. On and on with the excuses.
I have yet to receive a call back. I have asked for his cell phone number, yet I was told by the receptionist that he specifically told her not to give it to me. I have asked to make a phone appointment with him, yet receptionist said "sorry I can't don't do that".
I've never had this bad of services before, from any company. I'm shocked that they choose to conduct business this way. At this point, I don't even care about the expense, nor do I want them to cover it. It's the poor integrity, lack of respect and trouble I've had to go through with them that I'm disappointed to see at this point.
If you're looking for a shop that does things the right way, that will treat you with respect and give you stand up service, I would urge you in my personal experiences to avoid this place at all costs. read more
