Black Purl Yarns has four rooms of yarn, with cozy seating inside and a zen pond with a bench outside. Kandi, the shop owner, and Jean the clerk who helped me find hand dyed sock yarn (dyed by the owner herself), were helpful and knowledgeable. According to the owner the barn, where the shop is located, was part of a property given to a family by the British in the 1800s and that same family owned it up until the 1990s! This location is not only pack with fabulous fiber but all the rustic charm you would expect from such a space. Ample private parking lot allowed us to park our truck camper with no problem. Worth a stop if you are in the area. read more

Visiting from out of state and wanted to get some yarn for my friend to crochet with. I told the owner I have no experience with yarn. They asked me if I had a price range, I stated $15 dollars max, and they went around the whole store pointing out everything that could be used with the pros and cons of each one. We later had a very friendly discussion about why we are visiting, and their experience with tourists like us. Overall a very wonderful experience with a huge variety of beautiful yarns. The negative reviews on this page are very outdated, and I believe that if you give this place a chance you won't regret it! read more

I loved the way the barn and the grounds looked, so I stopped by. Cozy store, nice fibers. I was in there for almost 10 minutes without seeing any staff, but hearing their voices from the back room. When they noticed me, one of them said " I didn't know we had a customer". Then the older lady followed me like a shadow as if I was there to do something illegal and seemed annoyed with my questions. I felt I was keeping her away from the conversation they were carrying. A lot of things had no price tags. They don't carry the patterns for their samples. Not a friendly place to shop for yarn, won't be back. read more

Visiting Cape Cod on Vacation. Decided to stop in. I asked if their yarn was displayed by weight as I was looking for fingering weight yarn. I was told "no" I asked where I could find this weight of yarn. I was told , "you just need to look for it." I had gathered 5 skeins of yarn to purchase. I asked if They had a restroom. I was told NO! Really, you teach classes with no restrooms! Needless to say, I put the yarn down and left. Very rude New England attitudes! I won't be going back there. read more
