The guy who announces about half the rounds -- and presumably writes those questions -- is a mean, misogynistic hipster. And lately, he's gotten *really* lazy: last night (2/26/2013), one round was cribbed from an episode of Jeopardy that aired SIX DAYS BEFORE (2/20/2013). Of the six questions in the round, five were identical to those in the Jeopardy category -- name the film, based on the last line of dialogue -- and in the *same order.* The same order!!The guy couldn't even be bothered to reorder them. Trivia nights are supposed to be fun. A live version of a week-old episode of Jeopardy? Not fun. And just so inexcusably lazy. read more

Comfy private booths with bell service, exquisitely moody low lights, smart decor, expert cocktails and a friendly and helpful staff unexpectedly accomodating in such a cool and luxe setting. While visiting family in Brooklyn I stumbled across this bar. Not only was the decor wonderful, the atmosphere was inviting and friendly. I was able to get a booth and soak in my surroundings. There was a delightful and witty bartender that engaged with my party and represented a truly wholesome and warm spirit. I asked her name (Sah Bee) and graciously tipped her as i left. Visit this little spot when I was in New York love the atmosphere love the old-time drinks especially fond of a little bartender I believe her name was Sah Bee made me feel right at home. This bar is amazing. I once saw Janeane Garafolo here and she thought she was too cool for school. Anyway, the booths, the service, every little detail of this bar is gorgeous. When you get a private little booth you can press a button to signal your waiter to order more drinks. Genius! My only complaint is it's always busy and hard to get a seat! read more

Well guys, winter is upon us.... its cold grasp is bearing down on us. The season is filled with dread, cold, remorse, chapped lips, and worst of all, uncomfortable interactions with family members. If you need a respite from the cold, icy grip of Old Man Winter, I suggest popping into the Black Rabbit. Located on Greenpoint Ave, it has all the standards of the local bars- board games, patio, great happy hour, and a somewhat ironic television. However, the crown jewel of this wonderful establishment is the booths. These things are like black wooden sanctuaries, that even come with their own doors to keep out unwanted riff raff, and even have a light to hail down service! In essence, you could hibernate in own of these things for the evening, just be sure to get a few board games for the table. My favorite drink is the Dead Rabbit Ale- 3 bucks until 8pm, 5 bucks after. And they also have a fine selection of hearty drafts, 6 dollar pickle back shots, and other spirits that will sooth those winter time blues. Other pluses include a basic food menu and a wonderful fire place. But hey, why limit ourselves to winter? The Dead Rabbit is also great for all seasons, and has a wonderful patio to sulk into the late hours of the evening. So if you find yourself in the neighborhood, seeking a refuge from the cold, or worse.. the dull and ordinary, stop into the Dead Rabbit order a pint or six and prove once and for all who is better at Trivial Pursuit circa 2002... hint, more answers than you think will be NSYNC read more

The Ebon Bunny is our JAM. By far the classiest bar in Greenpoint, this place is as yet uninundated (check please!) by... anybody, really. Private booths with call buttons, moderately priced drinks, elegant decor, unobtrusive, Jeeves-ian table service -- the perfect place to host anything from a game of Scrabble to... another game of Scrabble. I was visiting my Son in the Greenpoint area of Brooklyn and was fortunate enough to wander into the Black Rabbit. The place is a absolute gem and if you are in the area it is a great place to go. I grew up in Liverpool, England and have been to quite a few pubs and this place is up there with the best. The staff are very friendly and the interior is very well put together. Pickle plate is great! Nice atmosphere to meet some friends but not so good if you're looking up meet new people. Most of the crowd is early to mid thirties so there isn't the young hipster vibe that's moving more into this neighborhood. Bartenders are attentive and quick with a beer suggestion. read more

The best ambiance of any bar I've been to in Greenpoint and one of the best in NYC. Not the place to go for a wild time, it's usually very chill. But The Black Rabbit breathes class and the dark Twin Peaks-esque atmosphere has certainly made me a fan. When this place opened I had recently moved back from London, and I can't tell you how happy I was to see it's black brick facade and little red door pop up in the neighborhood--it was like London had followed me home. Expectations were high, and the Black Rabbit did not disappoint: dark wood, fireplace in the winter, intimate private booths, red ceiling. Sure, it's not really a British pub, but it is faux in a sincere way, not cloying or overbearingly hip. The Black Rabbit (and, specifically, their booths) is now my go-to local bar for serious conversation coupled with serious drinking. Nothing could be better. read more

This is a great little bar to go when you want a quiet beverage (if you go early), and some board games to pass the time. The beer selection is very good and reasonably priced, and they have interesting cocktails. I enjoyed an eggnog with their house brandy recently and it was muy bueno! The female bartender with brown/black hair is not only sexist, her attitude towards customers is completely unprofessional. I have wanted to come back so many times with friends, but she has made us second guess and find a new spot. I've been here at least a few times and every time without fail this bartender has been there with a terrible attitude. The carding at the bar doesn't bother me at all. She should be carding everyone. However, I've only had her card women in my group when I've been present with women, or only me when with a group of men. Another yelper mentioned this. I came here a few months ago with co workers and we left because she was being so rude to the women in our group. The drinks are good here, but it's not worth it to give your money to someone who clearly doesn't give a shit about your experience. There are plenty of other bars in the area. My advice , if you walk in and see the woman with brown/black hair, think about what I said and either immediately leave OR ask her for a drink, realize that it's all true, and then maybe ask her schedule and share it here so all of the patrons of this bar can actively avoid her. By far my favorite bar in Brooklyn, Very clean, great drinks, very nice environment. Management is very friendly and the food is epic. I am a finish carpenter by trade and love to go into places and pick apart carpentry flaws as one of my sort of bad habits. I'm certain it annoys my friends but I cant help it. The woodworking at this place is very on point, enough to where it amazes me. I can sit there for hours and try to pick out flaws and drink beers but whoever did the work must have been pretty good. The bar is cute and reasonably priced, the drinks are good and the bartender is lovely. That said, it's hard to get a drink because there's only one bartender. She's efficient and friendly, but with how packed the bar is on a Friday night, waiting for a drink can be a frustrating experience. read more

I came here during New York Craft Beer week. The bartender was friendly and helpful. There were free peanuts on the bar. While some might find the 19th century interior a little stuffy, this is certainly my kind of bar and will certainly visit again when in the area. read more

Only went briefly for happy hour on a Thursday. The front seemed pretty dead. Ambiance is awesome, we got their happy hour which only includes $3 black rabbit ale. It was excellent. Flavorful but easy to drink. Coulda sat there and drank those all day. Then we went out back to the garden. It was gorgeous. Lush green ivy everywhere. What a disappointment, after going here for a glass of "Black Rabbit" one of my favorite beers, for over 7 years, I went in for one last glass before moving to the west coast. I got a glass of some orange, bitter swill. When called upon, the "bartender" said "this is Black Rabbit". It wasn't and it was insulting to try and pass it off. We had a toast to our family's 100th anniversary in the US here a couple of months ago on a Sunday afternoon and I have to say they were fantastic. Because we had a decent size group they allowed us to reserve the back garden for the entire family which was perfect on a nice spring afternoon in early May. The beer was excellent. Love the fact that they have a huge pile of board games in the corner that you can play in your private booth.Not sure what it is like when it gets crowded or on a Friday or Saturday night -- I look forward to going back though! read more
