If I could give this bar a zero stars, I would. We came here on Monday night around 1 a.m., when the bar was empty and completely dead. We each got a drink and then decided to play billiards with our friends(3 of us). This is where things started to get messy. After we paid for our game($2), an older creepy guy came up to us saying things like, "Make it tight and move forward a little," etc. I stayed calm and said, "Hey, Im sorry. we're new here and we're just trying to play together" Then he said, "Hey, it's my turn!" We were like, "WTH?" The table was empty, and nobody was in the room until we started playing. Then he pulled out his card and said, "Hey! I won the previous game." I replied, "Oh, I'm sorry. We had no idea." He then said, "Those are the rules. Whoever won the last game gets to stay for the next one." We were like, "Seriously, dude? We don't care." We paid for our game, and you came out of nowhere. Then we spoke to the bartenders, and both of them confirmed that whoever won the last game gets to stay for the next one. I said, "Why don't you write that on the wall or post a sign explaining this rule?" Seriously, this is absurd! Listen I get it, on Saturdays, it's vulture city with every Brad, Chad and Chet with a mustache & Karen and Suzy who moved from the suburbs to Williamsburg there, BUT i've been a bartender before and i've never been that rude to customers. You ask a bartender a question and they look at you as if you took their first born child. This was a neat tap room. I loved all of the miscellaneous little things they had all over the bar, like the old-fashioned library lamp, a dart board, chalkboard, popcorn machine, taxidermy, etc. It was definitely able to pull off the "unique" vibe without coming off as corny. The perfect relaxing dive bar to enjoy $1 off all drafts during happy hour. You can get a 24 oz Narangassett for $5. The background music is kind of lame and jukebox has been broken, but still a great no thrills dive bar with saw dust on the floor to relax after work. A guy named Buddy normally hangs here in the front and its always fun to hear his jokes. My favorite thing about this bar is the free popcorn machine in the back. You can also help yourself to water from the water jug in the back. Once on a hot day, someone walked in and just wanted a glass of water and bartender told them they can help themself to water in the back, but poured him a glass at the bar anyway free of charge. This really made me realize that this bar is managed and run by very kind considerate people. read more

I think this may be owned by a fireman. Or has something to do with Firemen. The bartender was friendly, and the beer was cold. I'm going to assume the grumpy guy on his laptop at the beginning of the bar by the front door was either the muscle or the bartender's mate. It did not seem like he appreciated us being in there. I think when the bar is as empty as it was, you should appreciate all folks that walk in and spend money. Not sure what his issue(s) was. I aspire to play professional women's billiards so when I heard there was a diamond table, I had to stop by However the woman who works there Sunday evening made me regret every decision I made that led me to George and jacks. I told her I am sober but would like to buy a tea, because the security said they had, and she yelled at me for trying to order it. Then next offensive experience I am waiting to play pool when a customer wearing a short skirt flashed me their privates. I let them know quietly that when they bend over it is exposing, and then I walked out for a smoke. When I came back to the pool area the customer, their friend and a third patron started attacking me. I immediately walked to security to ask them to intervene, as I was a woman alone at the bar now being attacked. The security came and did a great job of defusing the situation and I went to sit back down. Five minutes later the bartender came out and made me leave, where I was met by the customers who were trying to attack me, were waiting for me. The woman who works Sunday evening tried to get me assaulted in-front of her bar by forcing me to go outside with the same regulars I called security on. read more

I had an absolutely unpleasant experience walking into this bar today. I just wanted to have a beer and chill with my friend. There was a sign saying you need to order at the window and we waited by the window outside for a couple of minutes, we even peeped inside to ensure the waitress/waiter would acknowledge or pay attention. We figured we were ignored deliberately, hence we decided to go inside n order. I wish I didn't walk into this foul smelling place to be addressed very rudely by the waitress. It's a pretty good bar. Sure it's located around lots of gentrified crap. They seem to have been there awhile. Good beer and cocktails. Prices are about what you expect from a Williamsburg dive bar, not cheap but cheaper than newer places. I had the one cocktail that was like an old fashioned. It's about $10 for a glass. This is pretty good in hot weather. It's refreshing and it also gives you a buzz. The drinks include lots of beers on tap. Many local favorites like the Brooklyn Brewery. The food menu didn't impress me. This bar has a pretty good atmosphere. People here seem laid back. There's not as many uppity hipsters discussing Instagram. read more

Two stars since the space is great, but the service just ruins all of it. I'd never been here before and asked the bald bartender if I could get some popcorn, not realizing it was self serve in the back. He told me to figure out where it was myself. Later as we were checking out, he handed me a card reader that was accidentally set to the wrong screen. Kindly asked if he could fix it and he yelled at ME for his mistake, grumbling about how it was fine when he handed it over (it wasn't). I'd normally just let it go and not leave a review, but we were here for my partner's birthday and he left upset that myself and others in our group were treated poorly by this guy. There are degrees of racism - at times blatant - other times insidious. As an immigrant and native Spanish speaker we are well attuned. After cordially serving my group of friends (all of whom are born English speakers), the bartenders demeanor shifted to unkind as she proceeded to address me with impoliteness. Even biting. Worsening matters, after failing to comprehend my order, she then ONLY ID'D ME. Looking to have a fun birthday night out, I was in fact unaware of the racially motived treatment. Now brought to my attention by my Caucasian girlfriend, I've had ample time to reflect on the disparagement. I am OBLIGED to report such ugly behavior! We all are!! I must start by saying that I love this place and have been multiple times, but last time was the worst experience I ever have had in NYC. My friend and I were having a drink in the bar and were very focused on our conversation, talking in Spanish, when the manager came to us and asked for my name to close out my tap and ask us to leave. When I asked what the reason was, he said that one of his employees accused me of telling her a bad word. I was very confused and surprised by the false accusation and asked him to call her to clarify the misunderstanding. She refused to explain herself and just passed next to me and cursed me. We started talking to the manager for a better understanding of the accusation but he said he must stay on his employee's side and supported the false accusation and kicked us off. We tried to talk to the waitress, but she kept cursing on the other side of the bar telling us "get the f**ck out of my bar". We never insulted her back and only asked her for an apology, but she refused to. It is worth mentioning that the waitress wasn't the one attending us, my friend and I never crossed a single word with her, she was just on the other side of the bar performing her duties, and she clearly misunderstood a word in Spanish and took it for herself. I moved on to NYC 3 years ago, one of the reasons I did it other than work, it's because I love how diverse and multicultural the city is, I respect the LGTBQ community, and I feel attacked that someone has put a word in my mouth that is not even part of my vocabulary. read more

Probably the worst bar I've ever been to in NYC. Bouncer almost assaulted my friend and I 20 minutes ago as we were walking up to the bar 1 drink deep and claiming we we're to drunk. He then proceeded to verbally assault us as we explained he was in the wrong to profile us the way he did. Tall guy with puberty looking facial hair. Weak in the upper body but tall guy. This bar always surprises me with having a solid time. I've only come in here late and not during happy hour, but you will still see beers for $5 or less. Whaaaat. Get out of here. Last weekend they had Two Roads Roadsmary's Baby Pumpkin beer on tap in a 24 ounce glass for only five smackers. Other craft beers (huge list) most of them are $7 or less for a mug. Bartenders were awesome and bought us back a round. Free popcorn with both garlic and old baby seasonings. Hello dinner! If that doesn't satisfy you enough they have cheap Zapps chips for sale and meat pie deals. I've missed out on the meat pies both times but they look great and have a variety from shepherd's pie to pie stuffed with steak. These little meat pies come with a tin of pickles and are only $10 with the accompaniment of any beer on draft. Deal. This might just be one of my favorite places in Williamsburg. read more

I experienced some really bad service and attributed it to the place being busy. Until it wasn't busy and saw everyone before me get served while I waited by the bar. I sat there wondering if maybe it was me and then my partner sends me a screenshot of the reviews left by people of color at this bar. I felt so seen and validated by the reviews. I was so quick to assume it was me and being "too sensitive" when what I was experiencing was racism and discrimination. It's these subtle forms of racism that are quite insidious that negatively impact people of color's health and well-being. Shocked to be the recipient of this discriminatory treatment when their instagram has posts and pictures of MLK and Black Lives Matter. You have to do more than post pictures on your instagram and social media. Diversity and inclusion is more than performative allyship. read more

This place has some amazing beers on tap. They are inexpensive and come in sizes ranging from your regular pint up to 24 ounces. Their meat pies can be had with a beer for nine dollars. I was fortunate enough to come across George & jacks tap at first I wasn't sure if I wanted to go in but the security guard a pretty broad body no nonsense looking guy named Tyson with a very warm and inviting personality said I can have a look and enjoy a beer and popcorn needless to say it was a very pleasant experience at an establishment that I will frequent from now on. Thanks to Tyson who was very knowledgeable of the establishment as well as the neighborhood for the invitation along with his magnetic energy combined with the experience of a what is now and will continue to be an easy decision when I want a comfortable place to wet my palate. read more

This is a bar I was fairly sure didn't exist in this neighborhood. I don't mean to say that I was convinced George & Jack's was a figment of someone's imagination. I frequent the Bedford Ave area very often when going out and was starting to get bored of the same ol' bars. So after doing some searching and investigating I stumbled on George & Jacks. It's a chill bar with all the fundamentals - a good selection of beer, $3 wells during happy hour, and popcorn with Old Bay seasoning. You can play some fun bar board games AND theres usually a dog or two chilling with their owners. It has a kinda divey vibe with sawdust on the floor and minimal lighting, but it's never too crowded and the bartenders are friendly and attentive. This is a sort of hidden gem in the area and is quickly becoming my new hangout. read more

They have 32 oz beers (good ones, like Pacifico) to go for 6 dollars, and they come with a small bag of popcorn or chips. You can try to go and enjoy your beverage in the parks by the water.
