We tried a bunch of different appetizers for dinner. The gobi lasuni was great and very spicy, while the miso malai chicken tikka was milder than we had hoped. The receipt showed it was "mild" but our server didn't ask what spice we wanted when we ordered. A medium level would have been perfect for it! Nice, upscale decor and a servers were prompt and friendly. More relaxed than it may appear at first! The only complaint I had was the prices for whiskey were crazy high! $22 for a single pour of Eagle rare? Didn't even ask about the Blantons that I saw on the shelf, Other than that, a great dinner date place!

Great restaurant, taste is very authentic and the price is extremely reasonable for the quality and quantity of food you get! It wasn't too busy when we got there which was nice in that we got quick service!

I've been to Black Salt Chesterfield location a several times, and I really liked the food there. However, my recent experience at the new location in Creve Coeur wasn't as good as I would like. It looked like they have a different menu than the other location. There was no biriyani dish that I liked. -Food wise: Our Masala chai and mango lassi were great. Garlic naan was amazing - the best! We ordered lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka masala with garlic naan to share between two of us. Both sauce was delicious. However, I had to send the tikka masala back to the kitchen to cook again ...because the chicken was still raw inside. -Service was friendly but kinda slow... We had to wait quite a while for our orders. -In term of location and ambiance, I liked here more - plenty of parking spots, much bigger space, relaxing vibe, nice music etc.

This was our second visit to Black Salt. Decor is like you are entering a fine dining establishment. Service is outstanding. The gohbi lasuni is one of the best bites I've had.

Stopped in for lunch around noon on a work day after hearing good things about the Chesterfield location. The inside has clearly been freshly renovated and is very inviting with mellow music that allows for good conversation. My coworker and I were a little bummed that this location doesn't have the lunch "sampler"-type platter that the Chesterfield location has so that we could try multiple dishes, but we wound up getting the chicken Andhra and chicken tikka masala lunch specials and added on a couple of butter naan (a must!). The salad & samosas were a perfect little starter to tide us over until our mains came mouth. We both loved our entrees and were impressed with the portion size - definitely enough to take some home for leftovers.

Yum yum yum! I've been meaning to visit Black Salt for a long time and I'm glad I finally got to go! To be honest, I was expecting a bit of a larger and fancier restaurant vibe, but either way it was still very good! The Lahori chicken was amazing, great spice level. The garlic naan was fresh and delicious. The chicken 65 was very spicy so watch out! Service was decent, I had to ask for water refills a few times (they weren't busy during lunch time), but that was no big deal. Still a great experience and the food was great, can't wait to try more!

Solid showing from Black Salt's second location. My first time trying chaat and it so flavorful and interesting. A ton of different ingredients that almost feel random, but somehow work. The highlight of the meal for me. The tikka masala was good but nothing special. While there are some menu differences between this spot and their Chesterfield location (no biryani here), the two are pretty neck-and-neck in taste and quality. Favorite dishes: Samosa chaat

This is an amazing Indian Restaurant. The staff were extremely courteous and accommodating, and the food was exceptional. I ordered the Lamb Chops and Butter Chicken, both entrees were cooked to perfection; both dishes had rich and bold flavors. If you enjoy Indian Food or would like to try Indian Food, I highly recommend this restaurant.

Don't let the strip mall vibe fool you, Black salt is fine dining quality Indian dishes. Everything we got was delicious and came out plated like we were watching a tv cooking competition. It's almost like a master chef snuck into a chain restaurant and changed the whole menu. Gives the place a nice hidden gem feel.

I am a huge fan of Black Salt in Chesterfield so I've been excited to try this second location. I got the lunch special of Tikki Masala paneer and it was perfection! Full of flavor and perfectly spiced. Service was impeccable! The only thing that concerned me was that the dining room wasn't more full so check it out and bring a friend! Lunch specials are a great deal but the variety remains with the full size entrees. I would be remiss not to strongly recommend the old fashioned.

You eat with your eyes first! Wow. What a way to present Indian food. Also, chefs kiss to the Indian cosmo. I wish I could live inside the garlic Naan.

This is my second review of Black Salt/Creve Coeur. Three months ago we dined and were blown away by the excellent service, presentation, and taste. Last night we brought our friends from out of town for drinks and dinner. We had bragged on how great Black Salt had been the first time, so we were disappointed and frustrated with the poor service. The servers were confused and obviously not trained. Drinks orders became a drawn out ordeal, and we were brought two appetizers, one of which we did not order(we kept the extra app and paid for it). We cut our losses after drinks and appetizers and left before ordering our entrées. (We went to 314 Tradicional) Black Salt is a beautiful restaurant with outstanding food, but the owners need to have savvy, well trained servers to complete the dining experience.

Food: 3 Stars Service: 1 Star *Sigh* Let me preface by saying that I absolutely LOVE their restaurant in Chesterfield. We've been patrons since they opened in 2023, and were ecstatic when we learned they'd be opening a 2nd location in Creve Coeur. Knowing the food and service is stellar in Chesterfield, we assumed their Creve Coeur location would knock our expectations out of the ballpark. Unfortunately, everything that could have gone wrong did and we were let down in such a tremendous way. Honestly, if we hadn't loved their Chesterfield location so much, we wouldn't attempt a 2nd try at their Creve Coeur location but we've decided to give them time to work out their kinks and further train their staff. Bear with me and let me explain... It's my birthday and we opted to dine in with some friends. -7:00pm: We arrived promptly for our reservation, as did our friends. -7:25pm: No one has brought us water or taken our orders. I got up from the table to seek someone who could wait on us. Water is brought to the table and orders are taken. -7:35pm: Staff members quickly walk by our table and we hear a bit of drama unfolding... A woman has arrived stating she made reservations for a party of 15 at 7:30pm. The staff argues that the reservation was for 6pm. Both walk back to the front of the restaurant to continue the discussion. 10 mins later, we're approached by the staff and the story unfolds... there seems to have been a mix up and they are trying to accommodate the large group. The restaurant can only accommodate them if my table moves to a booth so they can put the extra tables together. We're a little annoyed, but our food hasn't arrived, so we agreed. -7:50pm: The large group starts to assemble and gets seated behind us. -8:00pm: Our appetizer arrives. Still waiting on 5 other dishes. We watch servers pass our booth to bring the large group food. Worried, we pulled aside a staff member to confirm that our orders would be transferred from the table we were just at to the booth we moved to. She ensures us the order has been transferred to our new booth and as another staff walks by her, tells her to make sure the food gets sent to us at our new booth. -8:10pm: We notice servers bringing out more food for the large group. They are also just receiving their menus. Concerned our food has been delivered to them, we pull aside a server and ask. They assure us our food will be out soon and they jet off. -8:15pm: We watch the staff frantically try to figure out what went wrong. They clearly sent our food to the large group (or to another table). My friends need to get home, so I pull aside a staff member again to ask for the status of our order. They ensure it will be out soon. We continue to watch other tables get served while the staff figure out how to undo this mess. -8:30pm: They notice we're getting a bit restless and annoyed, and they approach our table apologizing for the poor service. Additionally, they offer to comp our entire meal. -8:45pm: Our dishes start rolling out... one by one. It's a good thing my friends like family style and don't mind sharing dishes, otherwise the food would have gotten cold if we had waited for everyone's food to come out. But that's not the worst bit... We ordered chicken tikka masala and every chicken piece was raw in the center. My guess is while hustling to get everyone's food out, they missed the mark on whether the chicken was cooked thoroughly. We sent the food back, told them we didn't want it remade, and asked for new utensils since ours were now contaminated. -9:25pm: We quietly gather our belongings to leave and notice the staff avoid making eye contact with us. We left without anyone acknowledging or apologizing for the horrendous service and experience. Aside from the raw chicken being served, the other dishes were fantastic. I'll save those reviews for another day when the ship has made their improvements and turned things around. Until then...

While browsing reviews, we came across a hidden gem in St. Ann called Maaji's Street Kitchen that had surprisingly high ratings. I couldn't believe how well-reviewed it was, so we decided to check it out for ourselves. We arrived around 5:30 PM on a Monday and were greeted warmly as soon as we walked in. We made our way to the counter to place our order, and the staff member was very helpful once we mentioned it was our first time. He walked us through the menu and even pointed out different dishes and combo options on their digital signage display menu, which made ordering much easier. We placed our order to go and waited inside. It's a small space, but it's decorated with unique art and has a really unique vibe. There was a hypnotic Indian song playing in the background, which added to the atmosphere. We sat at a table that had a game on it--I believe it was called Carrom, a tabletop game where you flick checker-sized discs into corner pockets, similar to a mini pool table. A woman who I assume was the owner or manager came out from the back and greeted us. While we waited, she showed us how to play the game. As we were playing, she came back and even offered us samples of the food we had ordered. I was honestly impressed by the level of hospitality--it's not something you experience very often. The sample alone was some of the best Indian food I've had. The spices were perfectly balanced for my taste, and it made me even more excited to get home and dig into our full meal. My wife ordered the Mixed Vegetable Curry Bowl, and I went with Combination #2 (Shredded Chicken Curry, Steamed Rice, and Parantha), along with a side salad. Overall, the experience was fantastic. I can't remember the last time we were treated this well at a restaurant, and I'm already looking forward to coming back to try more dishes.

This is how good this restaurant is, and I am always amazed by how Heena can cook all the food to order while connecting with her customers (she remembered my name 2 months after I visited once!). The restaurant is small and tucked away on N Lindbergh in St. Ann. The space is set up mostly for takeout as they only have ~4 tables for customers. Don't let this deter you from dining in if you have the time. You can play a traditional Indian game on one of the tables while you wait or chat with the staff or other customers. The menu isn't as expansive as some other Indian restaurants in town, but it really doesn't need to be. So far, everything I've tried has been delicious and the combination menu's value cannot be beat. This lets you try out multiple things on the menu all at once. In each dish, you really can taste the love and care that the chef has put into the food and if you get a chance, ask her about how much thought has gone into even the ingredients being used. Tip: If you don't mind paying the extra $1, always get the garlic and ghee parantha (deliciously flaky indian flatbread). It is totally worth it.

My food was delivered by a young man who seemed like he was having a bad day. He walked over put my plate down, turned around and walked away. I was trying to ask him for salt and pepper, but missed him. Shortly afterwards, an older gentleman who may have been the owner or manager, came over to check on me. The ambience was decent. The lighting was good. The restaurant was clean. The food was also reasonably priced. (I went to another Indian restaurant a few few weeks later and then naan (bread) was $6, which at that location was nearly half the price of my meal! ) The food appeared to be a meager portion, but that was just based on the presentation. It was actually a substantial amount; I only was able to eat half (A lot of restaurants work to make their items look bigger than they are in this one it was the opposite). As I was finishing up, I called over the manager, had him bring me a box in the check. He did that took my payment and thanked me for coming by. I would definitely go back to house of India. The service wasn't over the top as I like to have a server do more than just take my order, but they did have a system, my food was hot and tasty, I was served quickly, and I left pleased and ready to begin my 18 hour fast.
