THE BIG: Hot yoga off of W Anderson lane. Big space with tall ceilings and classes are typically filled up. Does have changing rooms and a shower for those on the go. Small lot but street parking are available. Be cautious of the residential parking signs. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I typically come to Black Swan once a week to get my stretches in. The heat in the room does wonders in opening up the body. Instructors are great and they don't force you to do a movement if your body isn't ready. That's a plus and they really focus on your mental game alongside the physical stretching. There's fast paced flow or long deep yin yoga stretches. Whatever floats your boat, and you can sign up easily on the website or walk in. THE FINAL BAMBOO: A donation is voluntary here and the instructors here deserve it. Im hard of hearing and have A LOT of trouble hearing the instructors during lessons & cannot wear my hearing aids during them cause heat and sweat would ruin them. Some instructors are more helpful than others after I let them know I need a little bit more support, but really surprising this isn't prioritized more throughout the studios - it's a really big space that fills up quite often & id anticipate I'm not the only one. One male instructor in particular said "yeah it's a really big room but I'll try" - that's reassuring lol I love this studio but could probably enjoy it a lot more if accessibility was considered! Took a happy hour chill class with Sean and it was amazing. Perfect way to relax after a long week. When I first arrived, the line was out the door but it moved pretty quickly. This studio has space for two classes to take place at the same time and the chill class was in the mirrorless room which was nice. We used different props like tennis balls and yoga bands to improve blood flow, tissue recovery, range of motion, and decrease overall stress on the body. Super cool to get a free can after class. The inside was warm during yoga and got a nice sweat going. I didn't notice any funk like other people have commented on in the past. I've tried Black Swan in San Antonio and really enjoyed it so I figured I would try it again in Austin. Ironically, this BSY studio was 1 mile from our airbnb, so naturally, this was going to be my yoga studio during my vacation. Which means I would go here twice daily, morning and evening. Oh, how I love studios that offer classes all day and especially a 9pm evening class. And classes are only $10 donation. Score! My first class was the "Chill" on Monday morning with Kewal. 5 stars. He was such a caring instructor and individually checked in with everyone before starting class. I almost never see this. Usually, it's just a general hope that everyone is great. Let's start. So this was a nice touch. His flow and energy were wonderful, mellow as you would expect in a chilling class with lots of props for comfort. He included a VERY good (and well appropriately timed) breathing meditation as our savastana. I was relaxed and happy afterward. Goal achieved. The evening candle glow class was cute. I can't remember the instructor's name but she did a decent flow. All the yoga classes here had something different to offer and I enjoyed my time here. I recommend you check them out. read more

I wonder what took me so long to come here. This was my first time at any Black Swan location. I think they have one closer to me but I saw an IG post of Inga being shared on another page I follow and came to a class. It was the Saturday after Thanksgiving and so there was plenty of room to spread out. I brought my own mat, water bottle, and towel. Stashed my stuff in a cubby and picked up two cork blocks provided by the facility. It was heated which is my jam but not crazy degrees just nice enough to deepen your stretches, break a sweat and warm up from the 50 degrees outside. I don't perspire easily so I like that it gives me a little help to detox and distress. I went for the music. Inga does these great music artist themes that are genre's that I enjoy and while she lives in Houston I'll make sure to come back for the many classes that I'd be interested in. I live south so not going to lie it took me 30 minutes without any traffic to get there so for every now and then but I'm definitely going to try some of the other instructors to come more often to a location closer to me. I also don't know where additional parking is at Anderson in the event the lot is full. I'm sure other reviews can help with that. read more

Amazing instructors! I've been to many classes at this location and while all the instructors have been different, I've always had a great flow and experience. Keep in mind the parking lot is very tight/small so arrive at least 20 minutes before class. People will line up before class because they like to get certain spots in the room but even if the line looks long, you'll be able to get a spot as long as you enter the studio approx. 10 minutes before start time. I suggest you pay online so your spot is reserved and check in is easy! read more

Really loved this class! Did the 6am Flow with ClassPass. It was nice and warm in the room, this is a heated studio. Doors open 10minutes before class and locked 5 minutes after class starts so you definitely want to be timely. It was nice and dark in the studio and they have lil holes in the ceiling tiles where light reflects through to look like stars. It ended up being a tolerable amount of heat which I appreciated and was a nice way to start day. Will definitely come back! read more

I've always considered myself a Black Swan yogi since I started practicing with BSY in Houston. After moving to Austin, I had high hopes of BSY-- being that BSY originated from Austin. There are definitely differences between both cities. In Houston, all the BSY studios are heated to 90 degrees, no matter what the season is. However, in Austin, it varies. Due to this variation, perspiration lingers in the air that give it a musty smell. Second, Austin's studios have an open floor plan. The check-in counters are in the same area as the studio, which do not allow a separation from the entrance to the studio. All outdoor noises can disrupt your meditation once it opens. The music blasts in this studio, which causes difficulty in hearing the instructors! Noel: Voice is high-pitched, tremendously difficult to hear while instructing. Flows are choppy. You know it's bad when you're confused, and you look around for guidance, only for others to be just as lost. Hannah: Strong, stern voice, great at instructing, but still difficult to hear. Savasana is cut tremendously short, to a point by the time you get into relaxation, it's time to leave "if you choose". Flows are quick, be prepared. Emma: FINALLY. Emma's flows have been the best one by far! You run through them, and expect no variations that cause you to question her. She raised the volume after one song (NOOOOOO), but I was still able to follow through. read more

I am completely horrified by the way the owners of Black Swan have chosen to handle the pandemic. This yoga studio was truly and home away from home before covid 19 hit, I was on my mat 4-5 days a week and loved being there. In late June I was notified by email BSY was opening with a list of precautions, temperature checks, mats 6 ft apart, shoes off at the door, cleanings between classes, airflow through the studio, and MASKS. I returned to BSY about two weeks ago and the first few classes I attended were during the weekday, the instructors asked that masks were worn, everyone was distant. It felt relatively safe. This past Saturday I paid an additional fee ($27)on top of my monthly membership fee ($70) to attend a special Halloween full moon yoga class I should have left when I walked in the door to see WAY too many mats on the floor, absolutely no one was 6 ft apart. At most mats were 3 feet apart due to the class having well over 20 attendees. Things only got worse once the class began, a woman asked the instructor of masks were required on our mats to which the instructor hesitated and replied, "no not while on your mat." When I opened my eyes, I was in the minority with my mask on and I was horrified. More than half the class took off their masks and only 1 person near me still had hers on. There is a statewide mask mandate! As a business it is your job to keep your patrons SAFE. Is yoga not about good health and wellness? I should have left in that moment but I froze, afraid of what was happening around me and not wanting to cause a scene. I regret that I didn't leave. I regret that I gave BSY my money or my support. The owners of BSY do not care about your health or wellness which is why they're allowing this relaxed masking policy, it's all about the money. read more

The instructors are great! I wish I could attend again but I can't. I am scared and uncomfortable about having my head so close to someones butt again repeatedly for 1 hour in a heated class. They book 70 tickets for a single class when there is not reasonable space for 70 people. The instructor stood behind the check in counter because there was mats wall to wall, door to door. Hopefully in the future there is a priority in using the space appropriately. read more

Ok so I went here to try out yoga in person instead of virtual for once. The building is really big and it was easy to spread out. There was a sign that said we could remove masks when we were doing yoga but only one other person did. I don't k ow how other people were able to do the whole session with a mask on, because I was really breathing hard! The instructor was nice but it was really hard to see him from where I was in the room and his instructions were really hard to follow. Maybe he was having an off day? I like that I can set the price I want to pay for a session and overall it was good to be forced to stay focused on the session - which is something I don't alway do at home. I really love Black Swan because it's donation based, they have lots of classes, and they're beginner friendly. But word to the wise - if you're new to yoga, these classes are so large that there isn't a lot of personal instruction and you may end up injuring yourself. It's a good practice to stop doing any pose that's painful, and to go easy on yourself when you're starting out. Also, most classes are heated or at least not super air conditioned, so it's more "hot yoga" than not. But I do feel very stretched out after their classes and it's close to my house, so that works for me! I'd also recommend going to a yin ("chill") class if you're new to yoga - they're slower and will help you get used to the poses. read more

Love the classes but the experience of getting into class is so stressful that even the best instructor can't overcome it. The capacity for a Flow class is 70 and 70 people do not fit into this studio, let alone in the parking lot which has no more than 15 spots. Even if I arrange a ride and arrive early, which I often do, my prime spot will end up getting less and less ideal as I'm forced to adjust my mat to fit the many many fellow classmates. It's a shame that BSY doesn't just limit class sizes to a reasonable number, and/or add more north Austin locations. read more

This place DOES have AC to the people saying there's no AC in the studio! There's a huge HVAC pipe along the ceiling! It would be literally impossible to have a building in central TX with no central air. Please read the studio's website describing the fact that their yoga is all at least warm or hot! Of course you wouldn't feel cool or cold in there! That being said, I had the most wonderful experience at Black Swan today! I'm visiting Austin and love the donation based concept, so I can pay a reasonable price and not have to pay for a class pack or a crazy drop in fee. The website is unclear on which classes are "hot" (turns out that all of them are?) and the people there were not friendly. Donation based? How about letting people sign up for free. Let me preface this by saying I'm no stranger to yoga, but I'm no expert either. I practiced off and on during my time in college, usually as a reactionary band-aid to something terrible going on in my life (e.g. boyfriend broke up with me, failed an exam, seasonal depression, etc.) I also have fibromyalgia, and my joints/tendons are TIGHT. We're talking can't raise arms above head tight. We're talking piriformis syndrom tight (the piriformis is a little muscle in your butt associated with the sciatic nerve that spasms when it gets overworked...... ah, just look it up). So when I walked into Black Swan Yoga on a Saturday afternoon, I had no idea what to expect. First off, let me say that I LOVE how huge and open this location is. Coming from yoga in Boston (and some other locations in the Austin area), all too often you have way too many people cramped into way too small a space. Not this place, though - it was huge and very open. Class was done in the dark, with the natural light from the windows and the starry-lit ceiling illuminating the practice. I had a Vinyasa Flow class with Christine, and she was extremely encouraging. I've seen my fair share of brilliant and terrible yoga teachers, and it is honestly difficult to strike the perfect balance between demonstrating, hands-on correction, and simply vocalizing the sequences. Christine did a great job with all three - she would join us from time to time; sometimes she would only lead through calling out the sequence (but only once we had already performed it a few times). Other times, she would walk around and help correct our posture. All BSY locations are donation-based. They suggest $10-15, and checking in was super quick. They provide towels and mats for rent and water for purchase. I brought my own, so I can't say much for any of this. I also love the blocks they use - they're a cork-like material instead of the super porous foam blocks, so they actually provide really good support. In terms of difficulty, the class felt like an advanced beginner class. It seems like BSY does encourage you to find your own flow, though, so you can tailor the sequences to your desired difficulty. The best thing, though, is that THERE IS BUFFER TIME inbetween classes, so you can take your time getting up from savasana, stretching, and making your way out the door. I've definitely been to studios where classes begin and end on the hour, so once savasana is done, the lights turn on and you're ushered out. It's really jarring and counterintuitive to the point of savasana, so I really appreciate that BSY does this with all of their schedules. Will definitely be coming back. Namaste. read more

I walked in with my shoulders clinging to my ears, as I was an anxious ball of nerves. Within the first five minutes of the class I had forgotten about my (most likely silly) worries. I started practicing yoga last Saturday when my therapist recommended it for my anxiety. I was nervous at first, because I have never been to a yoga studio before. I chose to start with the beginners classes to get myself comfortable in the environment before I commit to the flow classes. The studio was very welcoming. Sean taught the first beginners class I went to and he was so inviting and caring. I'm prone to getting panic attacks and had to step out 35 minutes in to regulate it. He came up to me after the class to make sure everything was okay. The second beginners class I took was with Alli Bee and she was just as sweet! Very welcoming and kind. Y'all, I feel so amazing after each class. I'm nowhere close to being a yogi, but the practices really help with my anxiety and daily life stressors. Black Swan is an amazing studio. They have a parking lot which is a huge plus and the space seems bigger and more comfortable to me. I would highly recommend anyone to try yoga here. I do not know how this place gets such high reviews. I went for the first time this weekend. It was a vinyasa class. Unbeknownst to me, Black Swan doesn't have AC. They are housed in a black-roofed building. It was 104 outside and that hot inside. What's worse, it smelled absolutely horribly likely because of that. I wanted vinyasa, not bikram. I'm sure it's a great place when it's not over 110 in the room. Rather irresponsible and assinie to think that's a good idea. read more
