You can choose between a sparkling flight or red flight from their sister location in the Okanagan. We were sat at the bar and mentioned that we'd have about an hour ish time and was told, "no worries we hold an hour slot but tasting is only 45 minutes." That was a statement that felt like we'd be rushed and it's exactly what happened; we started off with bubbles, which one was completely flat (unsure how long the bottle was open or any of the others since it's off season) but within minutes the server was like "what would you try next"- and kept pouring our next taste within minutes without giving us time to even finish our initial glass of bubbles. You could tell the server did not want to be at work, yet tried to be friendly and when asked where the winery name came from, I got the response "I don't remember and if I don't, then the story much not be memorable"

We had a small ceremony and reception in August 2015, with 35 guests that were all family members. We were told that we would have use of the property until 11pm, at which point all guests had to leave, and then ourselves and our staff had to be gone at midnight. This corresponds to all information that our vendors had regarding timing. At 830pm, the property manager turned off our extremely quiet music, and began insulting our guests and staff and telling them that they had to leave. There was absolutely no grounds for her to do this; we had done nothing wrong and were following all property rules. This unfortunate end to the night came on top of an incident involving a large black poodle from the property attacking one of our guests, and the property being shown to other prospective clients during our ceremony! Overall the experience with the property manager ended on a very sour note with our whole family and our staff. It is a great shame because the property itself was perfect, and it was otherwise such an amazing and beautiful day. We had reached out to the manager in several emails for an explanation, and to speak to the owners, but never got a response. I really hope that the owners can do something to rectify the situation.

We waited about 15 minutes before two people came in from the side door and were rather unfriendly in asking us what we wanted. We were a bit put off but already there so we tried a cider and wine tasting. Our cider loving husbands were fans of the raspberry cider but neither of us cared for any of the red wine we sampled. The pourer was saying she takes them home as cooking wine, but a wine that's only good for cooking with wasn't exactly what we were looking for. The tastings were reasonably priced and apparently the raspberry cider was memorable, but other than that it was a bit average overall.

I purchased a bottle of wine to go. However after speaking with Cole and understanding his other adventure it all made the most sense to me on the reasoning. If you're on the island, definitely check these guys out. They have other wines offered at the Doe Bay Wine Co, but stick to local and try the Orcas Project. What they are doing with all of the different wine makers helping make different wines for the Orcas Project is brilliant and provides everyone an opportunity to shine.

They told us that visits to Sailor Vineyard are usually by appointment only, but they would give a quick call and let them know we were coming. The entrance is a little hard to find, and initially, we turned onto the vineyard road and had to backtrack to a little sign with just the house number, and that is where you park. It's in front of their house, and Kit came out and greeted us, introduced us to his adorable dogs after being sure we weren't opposed, and then guided us on a tour of their little family owned vineyard. We enjoyed learning about their unique grapes and their personal histories. They don't do conventional tastings, but instead, you bought a bottle that came with 4 engraved Sailor Vineyards wine glasses (to take home), and he pours for you while you enjoy the lovely day. We took home a bottle of their reserve wine and was disappointed we wouldn't be able to return for their big concert they are putting on at the end of three summer (Aug 10, 2024) with an Italian band. It's definitely a neat spot to stop if you're in the area, but be sure to call ahead.
