Blackadder Brewing Company is a very classy brewery. It is kind of decorated like an abby. There are so many cool places to hang out. There is a long bar, sitting area with fire place and an outside area as well. Chris Hart, the owner and brewer is doing something very right here. The beer selection is diverse. I think I counted 19 beers on tap, plus a host of guest taps including cider and wine. They do Belgians right here, but there were also sours, gose, pilsner, IPAs, porter, brown ale, and some European favorites like a winter warmer, hefeweizen and Marzen. The BEER: Wicked Child Belgian Strong Ale 14% ABV... sips like it is under 10%, smooth and delicious, just very slightly boozy. This is the strongest beer in Gainesville The Snow Gose 4 5% ABV... everything you would expect, sour and salty goodness Pucker Round fruited Gise 5.5% ABV... holy wow, a little tonic, and a lot of pucker. Good. Key lime and passion fruit Lord of Flashheart Belgian blonde 6.5% ABV... yes this is a grand blonde, well balanced and easy drinking Queenie Belgian amber 6% ABV... I love this amber, especially the warm hug I feel after a few sips. It mellows as it warms. Saint Sydney Belgian Dubbel 7.5% ABV... Oh yes, yes, yes, yes! This is the real McCoy, slightly boozy, semi sweet and quite delicious. Date Night Belgian quad 12% ABV... you can definitely taste the alcohol in this one. Not subtle, but definitely delicious, especially if you like Belgians I Cherries You Belgian fruit beer 7% ABV... wow, this is absolutely delicious, on the dryer side, but still semi sweet and absolutely crushable Real Eyes Realize Imperial IPA 9.25% ABV... perfectly balanced imperial IPA, sweet, juicy, delicious A little citrus and a whole lot of orange rind. This IPA has character. If I had to classify this brewery it would be a sophisticated craft beer experience. And, if I have any criticism it is that if you open a tab, they keep your card. Overview: 5/5 I'm always up for a good micro brewery. We had not made it to Blackadder until now. Great experience at this place. Ambiance : 5 I love the layout. Spacious with tables and a long bar that can accommodate large and small groups. They played great music and had games available. Food/Drink 5/5 Only did drinks and some pretzel snacks. The beer selection was awesome. I am a Belgian beer snob. A SUPERIOR selection of this variety. I tried four that were all great. Service : 5/5 Ashley our bar tender was great. This is my favorite brewery in the Gainesville area. Chris Hart, one of the owners (the other being his wife) and brewmasters is normally on site and willing to converse about his Belgian inspired beers. Very Cheers feeling kind of place. No food, but they do have trucks regularly. Has an old world kind of feel, from the bar to the furnishings (lots of hard wood) and ample board games, including those outside of the standard American games most of us don't like any more. The brews brewed on premise are Belgian inspired and fit the styles fairly well enough. The name Blackadder fits, as most of the beers are higher in gravity/abv. I will note, despite the decor, the place is very family friendly and you do find families in the place. Overall, not an issue, but there was one time the parents were not parenting and nothing was said to the parents. Regardless of friendliness, I don't really think kids should be running amok in any establishment (other than a playground?), but a microbrewery seems a bit more inappropriate. I don't know if it is the vibe or the easy going nature of all of the people working there, but I feel at home when I go to Blackadder. Will definitely return. read more

This brewery provided excellent service at the bar, both friendly and responsive. The selection of beers was quite extensive and Torey was helpful in trying to find one that we liked. The house band, The Imbeciles, was playing the night we were there which was a wonderful addition to our experience. The band had a varied playlist with talented musicians and vocalists that really made them a joy to listen to. They also had several other interesting events listed on their calendar. This was a nice place that had about 20 of their own beers on tap, along with others . Im sure theres something for everyone. There was a function going on involving bats which was really cool. They had a wide-screen that had a live feed from a local bat house. The service was good, the beertender was very knowledgeable. I have been to Blackadder Brewery before for trivia but I came specifically with a friend on New Year's Eve afternoon because they were offering an all-you-can-drink bloody mary bar for $20.22. You can't beat the price and their selection of toppings was outstanding. They were perfectly spicy with black pepper, honestly some of the best bloody marys I've ever had. I love the family-feel of Blackadder, where the owners themselves are pouring your drinks. There's a plenty of tables, a fireplace, darts, and a large collection of board games. Every Friday they have a pizza food truck that has the best pickle pizza that I have ever had. For that alone, I would go. The brewery itself is really laid back and inviting. They often have trivia nights and host viewing parties for different sports. I'm not much of a beer drinker but they do have a really good blackberry cider that I enjoy. Hoping they have some other options that I enjoy in the future. It can get pretty busy but they have indoor and outdoor seating available. It's a good place to check out a few different beers. It really wasn't the atmosphere I like, but I don't have a family with kids. When we went the place was filled with kids running around and babies crying. It's in a little strip mall type place so I didn't like that much either. Blackadder is definitely different from other local breweries. It has a much more upscale but still totally laid back atmosphere. You can sit at the bar, you can sit at a table with a long bench seat, you can sit outside at an umbrella table, or you can chill in the lounge chairs by the fake fire place thing. There are USB charger ports all over the place. There are board games and darts. The brewery is really neat because it is so small and compact. The owner/Brewer, Chris, is always serving at the bar when I am there and is happy to tell you about the setup. My number one favorite thing is that I like Belgian style beer and they brew quite a few here. I absolutely love tripples and quads and theirs are very good. I will update with the names next time I am there. Their tripple is so drinkable it's almost dangerous. The quad is full and just what you would expect form a quality quad. They also have a ever changing selection of guest taps with a good selection of founders which I happen to really like them as well. They have in house made soda for the kids as well. read more

I love Blackadder and have enjoyed every time I've come here. Located near Oaks Mall, it's in the corner of a plaza in the very back so can be hard to find. But, when you walk inside, it feels cozy and at home. They offer a lot of games, a dart board, and plenty of seating. Their decorations are "Old World" type with a fire place and rustic wooden tables/benches. You're never fighting for a seat, that's the best part. But my favorite part about this place is probably the people. While I never personally spoke to the owners, I see them every time I go and you can tell that they care a lot about their beers and their customers. They hosted a July 4th event at their brewery where they offered free hot dogs and sides for their guests! They even brought Guitar Hero for everyone to play. Blackadder offers a variety of different beers to choose from. Don;t be afraid to ask for suggestions or get a flight if you can't choose! read more

The only thing the employees might want to work on is name exchange when greeting customers. I only know the employees name by hearing their names during interactions with them selves. Updating my earlier review. Well the first time I went there they didn't offer flights which was a real bummer. I've been there a few time since then but never stayed long enough to really evaluate the place. This visit I had a flight and a couple extra beers. I'm very impressed with everything. Friday night flights for only $5 is a great deal. Even if you come any other night, it is awesome that they have flights now and also small pours. The selection is great. They have a lot of guest taps and their own beer selection is getting larger. As I mentioned in my passed review, this place is a nice place to hang out and have a beer or two. The place wasn't too crowded, and there was ample seating. They even had a board game room with tons of games to choose from. We had a big group so we didn't play any, but I definitely want to go back soon to just relax and play a game with friends. It's a small establishment with kind of a family owned feel. I'm pretty sure the owner got us our drinks and rang us up. You can tell the people working really love being there. It's just a feel good, local hang. The beer was good! I had the Blackadder lager (I don't remember the fun name they gave to it), and then I had a German radler they had on tap. When I ordered the radler, the owner asked if he could drizzle some raspberry beer on top, and said it gives it a little flavor kick that a lot of people like. I tried it and it was great! I really liked this personal touch. Beer on tap was around $6-$7 each, so very affordable. Take some friends and enjoy yourself at Blackadder! read more

Blackadder Brewery here in Gainesville is a great newish bar that is awesome! I stopped in tonight to see the brewery and taste a few of the beers on tap! I had a really nice time talking with the owner Chris and I tasted two of their own brews! I had the Snow Goose and one more of their beers! The snow goose was a sour and I usually do not drink a lot of sours but this one tasted amazing with tons of flavor! This place is BEAUTIFUL inside and such a fun place to go and have some drinks and hang out with friends! They have tons of games that you can play on couches or tables with your friends! They also have free WiFi that does not require a password. They have decorated for Christmas and this place is amazing inside. The tree is so pretty and they have a fire place with stockings over the fire! The staff here are amazing! It is a family and fri ND business. Chris and his wife were behind the bar and talking about the beers, the bottles they get in from Italy, the growlers, and pretty much everything about the brewery! It was so nice to hear a manager/owner who truly loves the bar he works at and care about the product that he provides to the community he is in! I was really impressed from start to finish! Make sure to purchase tickets online or at brewery (make sure they are open) at least 1 day before any private event. The instructions were not clear so my boyfriend and I showed up to an event, thinking he would be able to purchase a ticket there since their website's pay function was down when he had tried to purchase his tickets. We were told he could not do that as they did not have enough meals planned/prepared for an extra person. We left. My money was refunded the following day, but we received no communication back or apology for the confusion. I've attached the event details screenshot. When I visit a city, checking for breweries is a must. I wasn't sure what to expect when I did a search here in Gainesville, I guess I wasn't expecting much, but to my pleasant surprise, there were many options. Blackadder had the highest rating, so I went with it. This place is so good. Seriously. One of the nicer brewery atmospheres I've experienced, on a low key and quaint scale. It's small, homey, and has an interior reminiscent of an English pub fused with the living room quarter of a royal guest home. It's really comforting. They have about 8 of their own brews on tap, and about 20+ guest offerings. Breweries are breweries. At the end of the day, they sell beer, and food. But what's memorable here is certainly the atmosphere. It was one of the cooler settings I've been in, especially since I was looking for something more subdued. Was excited to try the last of Gainesville's breweries on my list. I was let down. The vibe of the brewery is very cute, I admit: the near-medieval style tavern decor is neat. But that wasn't enough to make me a fan. The stars of this brewery are the guest taps. The in-house brews I tried were good, but not strong enough to pull focus from the guest beers. And worse, the manager/proprietor(?)/bartender was a bit obnoxious and crass, and was openly disparaging other local businesses (his competitors) to patrons at the bar. Wow!! So many great beer choices. Go for the smoked wheat--very interesting flavor. Make sure you try the ginger one too. That one was my favorite. Next time I'm going for the gose. I went on Saturday and although it's not a sports bar, they obliged this Alabama fan and played the game with reasonable volume. That's the magic of Blackadder and the reason I've taken so long to write this review -- too busy being there to jot down my thoughts. The Space Located in a small strip just east of the Oaks Mall, you might not know what to expect when first driving by, or you might be misjudging the proximity to other chain eateries and outlets as a reason not to visit. Don't. Ample parking will lead you to a likely stenciled window advertising an event, brightening the large windows that warm up the interior during the daylight hours. Outside you'll find a few covered tables for enjoying the fresh air (Rainesville permitting), but inside is where you really feel you've found something special. From the well-adorned walls filled with worldly art, to the lounge chairs surrounding the fire place inside, you'll immediately feel the passion invested in this home away from home by its owners. The bar sprawls across the back of the venue, and throughout are ample tables to accommodate a date, a family, or even a birthday party if you call to reserve the longest among them (also great for splitting with others visiting and making new friends). Along other things you'll discover are a wall of board games for passing the time and darts tucked away toward the main entrance. The Service I cannot say enough about the staff and owners of Blackadder -- they care deeply about their patrons and the place oozes with hospitality. Even on their busiest nights you'll find them friendly and patient with folks seeking out suds. The real appeal is visiting on a more relaxed day or night, where you'll get to share in a story or laugh with Chris or Sissy while passing the time. It's a rare treat to feel like a regular somewhere, and the dedication from the Blackadder family guarantees my business for many more pints to come (I should say snifters -- you'll not find pint glasses with advertisements here). The Goods Alright so enough about how awesome every other aspect of this place is -- if the beer ain't flowing, people ain't going! Well rest assured, you're dealing with a Gainesville brewing veteran who had the wisdom to be patient with his brews and shop for the best from others. Currently at any given time you'll find 12 unique taps dedicated to Blackadder beers, and an additional ~20 assorted domestic and international craft drafts to satisfy any palette. Chris has an affinity for Belgian styles so if you're a fan as well, be ready to have options. You'll also see a smattering of alternatives: goses, brown ales, hazy hops, stouts, and more might be tapped on any given visit (both in-house brews and those from other breweries). You'll also find a few ciders as well should that suit your fancy. Regarding their own beers, I've had numerous and while I cannot say I love Belgian and European beers as much as they do, I certainly can attest care and quality are exemplified in each beer they make. I'm a hop head and I always nab an Occluded Vision when it's available. My girlfriend and many others love the cherry variant of his Snow Gose. Final Thoughts Catch me here on a Wednesday for trivia or a Saturday for fundraisers benefitting local businesses, all while chowing down on food from one of the rotating local food trucks parked outside. I like the decor. Beers are great, clean restrooms, friendly staff. Now on the other side from the 3 times I was there. It seems to have attracted the parents that want to enjoy some alcoholic beverages while they have their kids with them. Not to get into any ethics on that.
