I did not expect Blackberry River to be Mexican themed. I expected salads. But there are whole hearty apps and entrees available at a very dark, unassuming corner in northern Connecticut. The Bistro is a low key outstanding restaurant. They advertise as comfort food. They make exquisite, delicate, perfectly seasoned and carefully plated delicious food that is so far above the usual greasy but tasty calorie laden junk food that it cannot be placed in the same category. It's been a minute since I've posted a real food-focused Yelp review. Is this next year of the pandemic the year I that pick it all back up again? Time will tell. Ha! Blackberry River Bistro is the best spot in eat in Canaan, the competition in not even close. The sister location of Blackberry River Cafe - which I miss dearly! - BRB has been a treat for years. I loved eating there in-person pre-pandemic, and their take-out has helped power my Canaan visits during. Over the years, I have enjoyed a variety of their dishes, from their classic rice bowls, burritos, elote, and artichoke spinach dip. That being said, never skip on one of their specials if you see they are available I had their Banh Mi sandwich last year, which rivals anything I've had in NYC. A recent visit to Canaan landed on a weekend where they were making Korean Short Ribs and Shrimp Pad Thai. Ordering both was the move! The short ribs were braised with soy sauce and brown sugar, the sweet-savory taste countered well by the kick of kimchi with mint to cleanse the palate. The Shrimp Pad Thai was flavorful, not swimming in sauce - good, in my opinion! - and incredibly fresh with its addition of basil, fresh red bell peppers, lime, and flavorful crushed peanuts. Always be sure to finish up with a dessert. From chocolate chip cookies to key lime pie, and many specials in-between, your sweet tooth will be satisfied. If you are comfortable dining indoors, they recently reopened their dining area, always cozy and beautiful. This place is a hidden gem. The food was skillfully prepared and absolutely delicious. The maple wings were cooked perfectly and the street corn was a textural and flavorful experience. Ribs were so tender they fell off the bone. The Duck Carbonara was served over the best homeade pasta and was so good. Deserts were amazing. read more

Stopped in Canaan on the way up to Great Barrington and were we ever happy we did. Great dinner. Had pappardelle with slow cooked short rib ragu and it was just lovely- homemade pasta and perfect sauce. D. had a lovely salad and then a chicken burrito which he raved about. Finished it off with a brownie in the car which was hard to share it was so fantastic. We got to Great Barrington early and saw all the trendy little restaurants there and had no regrets that we chose Blackberry River Bistro. Outstanding! read more

Had some extra time before going to a show at the Infinity Theater in Norfolk and decided to drive an extra 10 minutes to check this place out. It was well worth the trip. Excellent food, service, atmosphere and specialty beer, topped off by a delicious dessert cake. Highly recommend Blackberry River Bistro if you are in the area. read more

In Canaan Ct, I got Korean fried chicken and Mexican street corn and it was delicious. The host was very accommodating and the vibe relaxed.

Everything was so good. From beginning to end. Cool quaint spot. A good variety options such as street corn, burritos, tacos, rice bowl, desserts. Good choices for beer and wine. Let's just say I was stuffed after my street corn order. Other dishes were being served I didn't know what to choose lol. I ordered tacos . For dessert I went with the cinnamon cheesecake with Mexican chocolate. So darn good! Oh the great falls mango beer superb. No complaints I had a great time catching up with my friend while stuffing my face at the bistro lol. read more

Absolutely delicious food and desserts! Very reasonably priced and everything we got was delicious. They also have wine and beer to go. We got the pork belly bahn mi, the carne asada burrito, and the roasted cauliflower rice bowl. All fantastic! Then we also got the salted chocolate pecan cookies which were great and the owner (I think it was the owner?) was kind enough to throw in a slice of the salty honey pie! THAT PIE. WAS. EVERYTHING. Wasn't happy with the food I received. Tried the 'green wings' and they tasted as if they were fried and then doused in straight green Tabasco sauce. Things sell out super fast, and the wait when I had ordered was significant (45+ mins). This WAS in 2022, to be fair. I haven't been back though. read more

So the people who run Blackberry River Bakery, Audrey and Sam, have opened this wonderful Mexican restaurant just down the road. Like the bakery, the food is amazing and reasonably priced. We've been a few times and have had creative tacos, filling bowls, and authentic Mexican Corn. They're planning on extending their hours, which is a huge boon to the community. Awesome spot! Spinach artichoke dip was spot on! Wings were absolutely delicous, nice crispy and juicy and the tacos were also awesome! Tried oxtail for the first time and it did not dissapoint! This is definitely my favorite place to come. Food is always amazing and comes from scratch. I have had every dish that they make and have yet to be disappointed. The tap list, and bottle list is ever changing. The staff is friendly and prompt. The nachos were a special that they made fresh to order, with Tostito chips and added jalapeños.
