I gotta say, I love this spot. I've been in a couple times, and each time the service was stellar, the vibe was unhurried and zero pressure, and the selection was eclectic and high quality. I don't know much about running this sort of business, but unlike some others, I imagine the research one must have to do in order to dig up the sorts of things they carry must take a decent amount of footwork (or internet work), and there's a lot of imagination in what they choose. It's not a snooty vibe, which one might see at other boutiques, it's refreshingly down to earth and friendly, with a *million different items I'd like to buy for others (and a few for myself.) The displays out front did their job and lured me into the cute little gift store. Once inside, I was tempted by so many creative displays. The exotic chocolate bars caught my eye first, then over to what could be hostess gifts, and then to the clothing area. Prices here are on the steep side, $10.00 for a dark chocolate malt candy bar, then again, these are specialty items that often come with a higher price tag. The colorful bars of soaps are beautifully displayed and thankfully labeled, wouldn't want to confuse them as food! Saturday mornings this can be a bustling little shop, with folks coming in from the Old Town Calabasas Market, which is just outside the door. Street parking is slim on Saturday mornings, so may want to consider the lot across the street for $3.00. If you're looking for a unique gift or something special for yourself, consider this store. Blackbird General Store is such a fun place to shop. Great for unique and sophisticated gifts. Many times I have purchased the martini glasses for gifts. They can be used for desserts as well. Reasonable price and wrapped nicely. The staff is helpful and very kind. Needing accommodations due to physical limitations, I have called to place an order. Hand sanitizer police... overpriced general store with poor customer service. Insisted they watch me put on hand sanitizer prior to entering, negating the fact I just put it on in my car. Employees couldn't tell me what brand they are using for theirs (many are low quality and toxic). They also seemed to be over the allowed capacity for LA County Covid orders. I won't be returning. Also, to the store owner- if you're so scared of having your store open that your employees need to harass customers over hand sanitizing usage (which is NOT a LA County enforcement) OR require they were gloves in your store, please close your store!!! This is insanity at its finest. Update: response to owner... I'm heavily pregnant. Not going to walk back to my car to use something I already used (hand sanitizer) and I'm not going to use your toxic one that pours from the machine. It's totally fine, you've lost a customer that's spent thousands in your shop. I'm sure I'm not the first and I won't be the last. Having your employees insist on observing people using hand sanitizer is excessive and weird. read more

It's a small shop but the customer service I've gotten both times I've went was above and beyond. The items are a little pricey, but the quality of the items I purchased was worth it. The staff both times were extremely helpful when I wanted to purchase an online gift card. This is the best little store if you're looking for gifts for someone, really anyone. They have all sorts of things from candles to unique items, to hats, to vintage T-shirts to baby gifts. The women are really nice and helpful. They do a great job wrapping everything so it's kind of a one stop shop. I love a good boutique, and Blackbird delivers! I stopped by this newly opened gem this afternoon, after noticing it on the way home from my morning coffee (from 10 Speed, located next door). The store is a lovely spread of all kinds of knick knacks - jewelry, clothing, candles, home goods/housewares, children's toys/candy, and even a section devoted to quality kitchen essentials, from artisanal flavored salts to coffee mugs to hot sauces. On top of having a top-shelf selection of goods, the owner was really sweet, the location is prime, and parking is super easy (there's designated Blackbird spaces out front - no need to valet!). My first visit to the store. I've lived here for 35 years and received a gift for my birthday that was too large! I wanted to exchange it and the lady was rude and said it's a final sale, so sorry! I went outside and saw many of the same garments and there was no sign about a final sale. I didn't want funds, only to exchange for something I could use, even perhaps spend more on. As we driving by we noticed this gift shop and decided to check it out to shop for some souvenirs. As I come down from the parking lot headed to the front of the store the skinny older lady with short blond hair blocked the entrance with the rope although she saw me going to the store.
