I prepaid and scheduled a candle making party for a group of four to celebrate a birthday. We arrived early for our appointment, only to find the store completely closed. The owner of the adjacent hat store (who shares the space with Topanga Mercantile) kindly called and texted the owner on our behalf -- but received no response. I also called the store number and emailed, but got no reply. My friends and I waited outside for 30 minutes before finally leaving. This was supposed to be a fun birthday outing, and instead, we were left standing in a parking lot, disappointed and frustrated. As of today (a full day later), I still haven't heard a word from the owner. I've since contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge. Absolutely unacceptable customer service. I feel like I've been scammed. Be very cautious if you're thinking of booking anything here. read more

Is soothing oasis within the oasis known as Topanga. Topanga Mercantile eases the soul the minute you walk in the door. Beeautiful crafts arranged as a pleasure for the senses. Each nook of the store offers a different vibe with the Candle Bar displaying their hand made candles and aromas. Antiques, instruments, functional art and furniture adorn this fascinating shop. I got to engage one of the owners, Tom, in a fascinating conversation as my camera eye led me around the shop. I picked up some gifts and a candle that I burn often in my place. Soothing and sensual, take a drive out to the country, explore Topanga and walk through Downtown Topanga next to the Post Office where you can find some more bliss for your eyes and nose in this delightful store. read more

Well this little slice of Topanga has certainly undergone a transformation! To start, the owner at the Topanga Candle Company (I think it's the owner?), was incredibly friendly but gave me space to shop. I loved the setup of the shop. You can see the candle castes adorning the walls, almost as decoration. It's got a very earthy, artist loft type feel within. It's a very cool space and one of the nicest suites in the stripmall. The selection of candles was eclectic and broad. The cheapest I found was $11 (it is a boutique-y shop) they also had larger ones at $29. Their fragrance diffusers were incredibly fragrant and you could smell them the minute you approached them. They seem to use quality ingredients and essence to make their products. The candles/containers the candles are in (as stated earlier) come in a range of styles which I REALLY was happy to see. Despite living in Topanga, I'm not much into the hippie dippie, handmade in appearance look that many products in Topanga aspire for. Here they featured those options, but they also had some more elegant designs such as the fragrance diffusers, loved their glass containers, and they also had crystal encrusted candle holders. I love sparkly/shiny things! Super feminine, girly and perfect for a hostess or bestie. They also featured a wide array of jewelry and the more standard Topanga style faire. I'm not opposed to these items I just don't gravitate toward them like some people do but they really had a beautiful selection. I particularly loved the handmade, fur lined moccasins - they appeared to be of excellent quality and I believe ran $110. They also had many items made of colorful boiled wool, such as capes and purses. Fun, statement style pieces. I chatted with the gentleman working who told me the tenants in this subsection of Topanga had been really pushing for some improvement to the exterior of the building. Unbeknownst to me and my girlfriends that registering for a candle making class at the Candle Bar would become an amazing experience!
