THE place in Lockport for great comfort food. Clean dining room with lots of local color. The servers work hard and have been here as long as I've been coming here (about 6+ years), so their doing it right. My favorites include the shrimp po-boy, turkey club and the seafood gumbo. Finding Blackie's can be challenging because of their low-key signage. If you can't find it just ask anyone to tell you where it is. Parking can be tight during peak mealtimes. read more

Great diner with a local feel. We stopped in for lunch and couldn't have been happier! The staff was nice and the food came out relatively quickly (though we had just passed peak lunchtime, so that probably helped.). My sister and I split a soft shell crab po'boy and an order of their gravy fries. The po'boy was good, though I think we ended up with some older bread. It didn't have that characteristic chewy texture that po'boys usually have and kept falling apart. Other, the filling was tasty! But you gotta get those gravy fries! The gravy tasted like it was made from roast beef drippings and was sooo flavorful. And there was plenty of of it! If you're in Lockport and looking for a good hot lunch, this seems to be the place! read more

This place is actually called Blackies Seafood Restaurant. If you are on US 90, and want something different from the Golden Arches or Taco Bell, it's worth a short detour to Lockport for some tasty Southern comfort food. See photo for hours. They do breakfast 6 AM to 10 AM. Portions are very generous. And this is not the place if you are on a low-fat diet. We had the shrimp Po boy, so many tasty little warm deep-fried shrimp that they kept falling out. That was plenty of food for two people, but we also got an order of crawfish pie, just to be sure. Hot (temperature) and spicy. After your stop, you can keep driving with very satisfied taste buds. read more

I found Blackie's Po-Boy Shop on the way back up from Grand Isle in Cajun country. I was with a group of friends on a trip and our heads were still hurting from combination of a wet 6:00 am fishing trip and the previous night's adventures. It had started innocently enough with some beer, talk and shrimp gumbo. It ended with a bottle of black label and 'night fishing'. Blackie's was unassuming, country restaurant from both the outside and from the inside. It was clean and the service was warm. I think it was a locals spot as almost everyone there was over the age of 50. The food was much the same. We all had different Po-Boys and the gravy fries. The fries were warming and good in that way that only gravy makes things good. The best Po-Boy by far was the soft shell crab one. It was head and shoulders above my catfish and my friend's shrimp. Overall, the food was firmly in the comfort food category even for a land locked Minnesotan like myself. Next time you find yourself hung over in the Bayou looking for food to stop the stomach ache, stop in at Blackie's. read more

The PoBoy came dressed and looked like it had potential, but alas, even this close to the gulf and the little shrimps home, it lost its flavor on the journey. Even though the place was not busy, the fried shrimp was not hot. No sides were offerd (fries, slaw) so I didn't order any. Sadly none came, big disappointment   Nice, friendly folks. Great Louisiana/Cajun dishes, without just being fried or boiled food. I had the shrimp and crab stew (that day's lunch special), and it was awesome! More than enough food, as it included a roll, potato salad, and corn. I saw that the fried seafood platter looked a little sad - the shrimp were so small, there was no way they were true Louisiana Gulf Shrimp and the stuffed crab wasn't in a crab. But I don't really order fried platters so didn't bother me. read more

Stopped in for lunch last week while down in Lockport for work. I thought it was a pretty damn good meal (and HUGE). I ordered the "small" seafood platter with tater tots. This also came with a lettuce and tomato "salad" to start. The salad was exactly as advertised - lettuce and tomato. And that was the end of any semblance of freshness to my meal. The seafood platter came with 2 catfish filets, 4 fried oysters, 1 fried stuffed crab, 1 fried stuffed shrimp, and a TON of small fried shrimp, as well as two slices of buttered toast. The flavors were pretty good; I mean, it was all fried so it couldn't be bad, right??? But seriously, the stuffed items were delicious, and the oysters were medium sized, so I didn't feel robbed. The catfish filets were pretty big and somewhat thick as well. My only issue was with the shrimp - they were popcorn sized. I'd rather have gotten fewer bigger shrimp. But the waitress was quite friendly and the quantity was through the roof, so 4 stars it is! read more

On my last visit, very last, I called in an order of 2 sandwiches with fries that is it nothing special. I went pick up my food and when I got home there was only one sandwich in the bag. I called and they said come right back and we will make it for you. When I got there the lil blonde cashier had a line of customers so I waited in line behind an elderly lady. Well the cashier was so rude to this lady I could not believe what I was hearing. The lady was waiting on a soft drink and do you think the girl handed it to her NO she SHOVED IT AT ME! I had no idea why she was giving me a drink and I pushed it to the side and said that's not mine. The cashier did not say a word and the lil elderly lady took the drink that's how I knew it was for her. Any way back to my order she tells me the reason why I didn't get my sandwich was because it wasn't written down and it was because I didn't tell her. Well by this time I am pissed and had a few words with her so she goes to the back and yells to the worker in the back "EVERY ONE HAS AN ATTITUDE TONIGHT" They ended up giving me the sandwich but I will never be back. read more

My dad and I came across this place one day while looking for somewhere to eat, so we decided to give it a try. We began with the corn nuggets as an appetizer. They were decent. Nothing special. I believe that these are probably pre-prepared/frozen. They taste the same as ones I've eaten at the local Chinese buffet here in town. I ordered the crawfish Acadiana over fried catfish and a side of potato salad. When it arrived, the first thing that I noticed was that the crawfish Acadiana was actually under the fried catfish and not over. This was served atop a bed of rotini pasta. The fried catfish was excellent. Very clean tasting fish and a well seasoned breading. The crawfish Acadiana was very good as well. There were some rather large pieces of mushroom which I wished would've been cut a little smaller, but the flavor of the sauce was delicious. The potato salad was bland and took quite a bit of doctoring. As a fan of potato salad, this was disappointing, but with a little salt and pepper it was fine. Service was fast and the server came by a few times to make sure we had everything that we needed. The portion size was big and a great value for the price. Presentation could use a little work but I would definitely go back again. read more
