Nice, clean entry. A really impressive shop.

Awesome shop. So much variety. They have a lot of the one-off stuff you're looking for but only find randomly on visits gun shops you haven't visited before. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Dawson Precision Steel Tritium Dovetail sights.

They were able to install 2 different sets of CZ sights that it seemed like CZ nor God himself wanted removed...ever. On top of that amazing staff and the lowest FFL transfer cost I have found in Austin, it's just a great old school feel where they really take care of their customers. Big shout out to Chris!!!

My new night sights are awesome on my Springfield XDM!!

Spent many many hours assembling, fitting, filling, draw-filing, finishing, patina the metal. Turned out extremely beautiful. Decided to put a tang peep site on the gun, purchased a Johnson Peep Site which came with 2 screws that I asked Jim to drill and tap back by the tang and showed him exactly where. A couple weeks later, Jim calls me in preparation to work on my barrel and was very confused. First he thought he had to buy the peep site...no Jim, I dropped it off with the barrel. Few days later, I called and he was telling me that he had to order the screws, no Jim, I dropped those off with the barrel and peep site. Get a call to let me know the barrel was ready, go pick it up and Jim has installed the site about a 1/3rd the way up the barrel and the condition of the barrel showed it was not handled badly. Rust, scratches, little dents, etc. Told him this was totally unacceptable, so Jim's assistant, Tim brought it to a competent gunsmith in Leander to get the holes drilled in the right place which they did but now I have 2 holes in a very expensive barrel that I spent 2 months working on and no apologies but did get charged full price for his sloppy work. To be honest, this crushed my soul given the price I paid and the numerous hours/weeks I spent working on it. CRUSHED MY SOUL!!!!! Do not go there, go to Leander and save yourself the headache and grief.

IME, it is best to get work done after the hunting rush. Wait times get worse the closer you get to fall. Apr through Jul is usually best. I had a pistol Cajunized in the busy season and it took a little over a month. I took one in during mid-Spring, dropped it off at 11, and had it done same day by 4:30. The DA/SA are so much lighter and crisper. I have Cajunized one myself, so I know what is involved. It is surprisingly hard to find gunsmiths with experience Cajunizing, or with CZs in general. I guess it makes sense, they are far less common than Glocks, M&Ps, etc. I have had smiths tell me they do not work on CZs, or they say "we can do that, we'll figure it out," which is not comforting. Each time I came in, the associate at the counter brought me to talk to a gunsmith. He knew the order the parts go back in, that some jobs like the mag release are easier when everything is already apart, and that you have to remove the front sight pin to replace the barrel bushing. The sear cage is a nightmare to get back together, so I'm happy to outsource it. It's clear they do a bunch of them here, so it takes less time than me installing it or a smith doing it for the first time.

My overall experience in all cases was a positive one. Pricing seems to be extremely competitive (only $65 for TiNi plating of a pistol barrel), and it is extremely obvious that the business cares about the satisfaction of the customers (if only this could be said about most other FFLs out there!). My main point of contact there has been Sam (friendly and professional at all times, without fail), but all the other owners/staff of the shop have been very cool guys to deal with as well. It should be noted that the shop is extremely small, and they have limited inventory (firearms and accessories) on display, but I believe they have quite a few goodies for sale in the back. They appear to specialize primarily in custom work and gunsmithing, but the firearms for sale that they do have on display are all nifty higher-end (e.g. Colt Python) and/or heavily customized pieces (e.g. Benelli M2 with cerakoting, fluted TiNi bolt, etc.). Whether you're looking to add a shade of individuality and flair to your cohetes, or are simply interested in enhancing their practical qualities, you owe it to yourself to make a trip to this shop. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

My son (18) and I both took Mr. Davis's LTC class. I am by no means a gun guy. Neither was my son…read more So it was with a little apprehensiveness that I signed us up for this class. First, let me talk about the classroom venue. It is a well lit, clean conference room. It was like any training room you may have been in for any sort of professional training. It had a break room, bath room, etc. Comfortable chairs and everything you would expect a normal classroom setting to provide and was located in a state office building. The class is incredibly informative. Mr. Davis presents the information in a very easy going manner and encourages any questions so that you do not leave with any misunderstanding about the gun laws in Texas. For example, why can't you carry at the post office? He will tell you. What signs do you need to look for outside a business? He will show you. The laws have changed recently and his content reflects the latest changes to carrying a concealed handgun in this state along with any reciprocity concerns you might have if you travel outside Texas with a handgun. The class runs about 4 hours and if there were a lot of questions I could see it could run a little long but we were not in a large class so only a few questions. The range portion of the class takes place at the Austin Rifle Club. It's a 20 minute drive from the classroom location. My son and I caught lunch on the way and had plenty of time to get there. We were blessed with beautiful weather for an outdoor range. Mr. Davis will, if you don't already own a handgun, provide one for you to rent. We took that route. I don't own any handguns at this time so this was very convenient. It includes the ammunition, and he then takes the guns and cleans them afterwards. As I mentioned earlier, I am not a gun guy. My son had an interest and I was looking for a class and instructor that would provide us with the understanding of the law and some instruction on firing a handgun. I had fired one decades ago in the military but that was it. My son never. I just want to say how appreciative I am that I found Mr. Davis. First, you can tell he is "that gun guy" you can talk to. There's no condescension, just a love of guns that translates into his classes. I'm pretty sure he doesn't care what political persuasion you are, it never comes up. All he wants to do is produce informed and responsible gun owners. One moment that stuck out to me, but to no one else was as he was instructing my son on how to fire the 9mm, he saw a smile come over my son's face and could tell that he was really looking forward to this. It was then I noticed that Mr. Davis began giving my son tips and some additional direction on how to stand, aim, fire etc when honestly he could have just gone through the motions and finished up the class and gone home early on a Saturday. It was probably second nature for Mr. Davis, but I saw it. That made me realize that I had chosen the right instructor. If you have never fired a gun before, or an old guy like me that had no idea where to go to get this sort of training for your kids, or someone who just wants a qualified instructor without the pretentiousness and a no agenda presentation to firearms, you cannot go wrong with Clear Shot Austin. It was great, I'll be back for my renewal.

I was joining my son and husband just to say I did it, but it was honestly very engaging and entertaining! John has a gift for teaching - he weaves in real-life stories that are funny, eye-opening and totally relevant. You can tell he genuinely cares about safety and wants everyone to walk away smarter, more confident and ready to enjoy the outdoors responsibly. The mix of education, hands-on learning and laughs made the time fly by. Even our teen stayed interested the entire time (and that's saying something). We all left with new knowledge, a deeper respect for safe hunting practices, and an appreciation for the ethical care of the environment. Highly, highly recommend this course for families, first timers or anyone wanting a refresher. 10/10 stars - we'd absolutely do it again!
