My friend and I came for lunch after finishing the Cape Chignecto Trail Loop and this spot was the perfect place! We sat on the porch - it was kind of warm under the sun as it's like a sealed atrium, but we opened both doors on either end to get a cross breeze and that helped. It was nice to have a view of the street and get to people watch a bit. Our server was so friendly and attentive. My friend got the Two Islands Brewery beer on tap (very cool that they have beer on tap from the brewery two doors down!) I tasted it and we both agreed it was good beer. We both ordered the Drunken Sailor burger and wow! So tasty! Fluffy brioche bun, fresh lettuce and tomato, DELICIOUS beer cheese and whiskey bacon, juicy beef patty, garlicky aoli...all topped with a fried pickle spear. Divine! Even the side salads we got with them were great! Definitely make a stop here if you're in town. It's surely the best place in Parrsboro for a meal! read more

Hands down, one of the best (if not thee best) restaurants in the area. The staff was wonderful and the food was delicious. We came in for a drink and a dessert - phenomenal wild blueberry cheesecake - and left two hours later. Not before finishing the cheesecake, fresh fish tacos, a sweet potato soup, and a bottle of petite Sirah. So much for a just drink and dessert! You have to go here if you're in the area! read more

We arrived in town at our motel down the road literally 5 mins before they closed (coming from Toronto we didn't realize small down places close so early) a quick phone call to ask if we can eat was greeted with a "no problem come on by" which was much appreciated and really unnecessary. The service was very friendly and easy to deal with. Drinks offered are the usual fare with some beers from the brewery next door as well. We had the house salad which was very fresh and tasty, I like when salads use real greens like leaf lettuce and spring mix instead of all the white butt parts of a head of lettuce. The Mrs had the scallops with curry and I had the Drunken sailor burger. Both VERY tasty and definately not generic at all. All and all a nice evening in a cozy warm environment with good food. Made our one nice in town very memorable. read more

In terms of quality of food definitely one of the better places in the area. Chef spiced the food nicely, and if you did happen to order something fried, the fish to breading ratio was good. My only frustration was that they never refill your water unless you flag down the wait staff and specifically ask for more. Overall one of our better dining experiences in this more remote part of Nova Scotia. read more

Disclosure up front: my cousin is chef here. I grew up around Parrsboro. Eating out was always pretty simple here, with seafood and chips, burgers, fried chicken, submarine sandwiches, that sort of thing. It wasn't fancy. That's changed a bit in recent years as tastes have globalised and tourists have demanded a bigger range of cuisine. Some trendy places have come and gone. BlackRock has been here about a year I think, and it deserves to last. It's fantastic. It's a clean, modern, space, not overdone, feeling both elegant but not fussy. The meal I had was terrific, and included lots of local choices: homemade bread with browned butter and pepper, pan-friend scallops in maple syrup on a crostini, and chunks of blackened haddock piled high on spicy quinoa salad. Every bite was very flavourful, every delicate bit of fish cooked just right. Mmmm. And they had a mix of local and global wines. I matched up a Jost Tidal Bay white with the bread to start, a spicy Jost Four Skins red blend to match the scallops, and a dry Gaspereau Black Dogs Riesling to cut through the savoury haddock. Staff are lovely. It feels small-town and friendly, but has enough of the professional edge to the service and presentation that it really makes it feel like a special place to eat. My fiancee and I decided to give this place a go on a bit of a whim and we were both glad we did! The menu has a great selection and prices seem reasonable for the most part. Their lobster panini is fantastic, they give you the tail and there's plenty of meat. Their caesar salad is great too, they use real bacon and parmesan. That staff are super friendly and helpful to boot. Definitely recommend this spot. We will be back! read more

My husband and I were out for a Sunday drive and decided to grab a bite at the Blackrock Bistro. I can't say enough about the quality of food and service. Sara, our server, was cheerful and lovely. The menu was different in just the right way. Lobster and shrimp spring rolls with pineapple chutney? Sure! let's try that. Sooo good. Buttermilk chicken was incredibly moist, fries home cut and the coleslaw was insanely good. My husband had the Western sandwich on homemade bread and loved it. Topped it off with a strawberry rhubarb cider. Will be going back for sure! read more

We ate here today while visiting the Rock and Mineral 50th. Chowder (with whole scallops, lobster, and fish) and the vege panini were both very good. Portion size excellent for seniors. The restaurant was unexpectedly busy so service was a bit slow but very friendly. We met the chef who helped out setting our table and more help arrived part way through the meal. Since tables were full we invited a couple to sit with us and conversation was lively while getting acqauinted. We'll meet again I'm sure. We would certainly go to Blackrock Bistro again. read more

Not a lot of upscale eating in this beautiful seaside town....glad that a place like this was around during our brief visit to the area (went for a light dinner outside on one night and for desert and a drink in the wine bar section on the other night). Had the excellent pan seared scallop starter. Big, moist perfectly prepared scallops over an interesting pureed sauce. Also, one of the better fish cakes I've had in the area. Good molten chocolate desert. Their strength appears to be in a nice variety of local wines....not so much in their beer or liquor selection. read more

Four of us just had fantastic dinners at Black Rock Bistro in Parrsboro, NS. We shared a big bowl of perfectly spiced mussels with garlic toast that were absolutely perfect. For entrees we shared fresh, homemade pasta with spicy, delicious sausage and tomato, basil, onion & pepper sauce (wonderful), perfectly grilled scallops with fantastic polenta, fresh local blackened haddock with roasted vegetables - yummy, and appetizer size lobster lollipops. Everything was really fresh and perfectly prepared - kudos to Michael - he really is a wonderful chef. We shared two desserts - a raspberry creme brulee that was perfection! and a flourless chocolate cake that was the best we ever had - not dense and heavy but light and wonderfully chocolate - but not to the point of weighing you down - again just perfect. The service was as good as the food - attentive and happy to answer or find out the answer to any questions - we really had a great night. We were amazed to find such a great place in Parrsboro, NS - much more than we ever expected!! Don't miss it if you are ever in Parrsboro. read more

My partner and I stopped in here on our way to Spencer's Island. We had heard that it was great and made a reservation earlier that day. We were held up by a number of accidents on the road and so were super late, which they were very understanding and kind about. We both ordered a blackened fish and it was good, but the vegetables were so fresh and sweet! There was live music going on next door which was fitting for the vibe of the place.
