Unlike The Lion up the road, Lord Melbourne doesn't charge $3 for gravy or sauce, and includes salad for free. The only catch is that you have to buy a drink. Oh, well, okay then. They have Bulmer's Pear on tap, so that'll do for me. You can also just buy a soft drink if you really want to keep it cheap. So that's a schnitty and a coke for $13? Not half bad. Not considering that the schnitties are a decent size with thick veal and very yummy chips. Thursday nights are a winner for $12 steaks. Again, you have to buy a drink, but I don't think anyone at a pub complains too loudly about that. Tonight I got a 600 gram rump steak, beautifully cooked to a 'medium', tender, fat and yummy. And with chips and salad. I'm a happy camper at the moment. One little tip for the Lord Melbourne - if you go into where the pokies are they have a complimentary coffee and hot chocolate machine. I use this excessively when we're there later at night, often finding that a mocha is just what I need. Especially if it's free.

The menu contains signature cocktails, including the Honey Trap - a dangerously tasty alcoholic beverage version of a lemon-honey Halls cough drop. Yum! The food menu is limited - especially for vegetarians. But the cheese straws are delightfully moreish and soak up the alcohol nicely. The music selection was eclectic when we were there, ranging from Amy Winehouse to some odd electronic jazz. The bartenders are great but the cocktail waitress on the night was clearly new and lacking in confidence. I predict this will be the scene of many happy catch-ups in the future!

It's not a huge place, and a little tacky, but it is great for people watching, especially if you sit on the tables out in the plaza. Renown for their dosas (crisp savoury lentil crepes served with vegetable stew and chutney) within the Adelaidean sub-continental community, however their pav bhaji (spicy vegetables in a tomato sauce served with a toasted buttered bun, raw onions and pickle) is my ultimate junk food: eaten with fingers, scaldingly hot, savoury and moreish. Their butter paneer masala is superior to most butter chicken dishes in Adelaide, with generous cubes of paneer and a sweet spicy sauce for dipping assorted naan breads. Much like Zhivagos this place seems tiny when you are on the crammed dance floor but once you move away there are heaps of benches lining the walls for you to rest your dancing shoes. I didn't have to line up ages for a drink at the bar which is always a bonus. Plus, being Adelaide I naturally bumped into people I knew from school and the like on several occasions. I adored the Mexican vibe of the place, especially the cactuses (or is that cacti?) painted around the place. I'll be back for a drink and a dance rather soon.

All the staff were so friendly and helpful to my huge group of 17 girls, making sure we al had a great night. I origanaly had told the guys at the door we were only expecting 10 people and I think they were a bit overwhelmed when 17 showed up... But they smiled and reassured me what everything was fine and just enjoy my night. Great staff, great music and great drinks :) Big thank you for everything and I will be back again!!
