I have been making an effort to try out a few local coffee shops since I moved to Minnesota a couple years ago. I decided to venture out a little to try out Blackwater Coffee & Cafe in Minnetonka. I was very impressed by the plethora of food options and the milk tea offerings as this isn't common for most coffee shops/cafes. I decided to have an iced Blackwater milk tea with the spicy turkey sandwich. The milk tea was great, I loved that it actually tasted like tea instead of being overly milky or sweet. The spicy turkey sandwich was even better than I was expecting - the sauce was a chipotle barbecue sauce which was perfectly sweet, spicy, and tangy. The sandwiches come with a side of chips too, which were good! There are a few different seating options, some chairs, smaller tables, and booths along the windows. My husband and I opted for a booth so we could be close to the outlets. We stayed for a few hours and had a great time. I definitely recommend checking them out for a friend date or as a place to study or work remotely! read more

Nice space overall, but my first visit was a mixed experience. The shop was very crowded and visibly popular. Every table was full, which says a lot about how well-loved it is. The space itself looks like an older Caribou location that's been renovated, with a casual vibe and plenty of seating options. They also offer food like breakfast items and sandwiches, which is a plus. The coffee was just fine overall, but the sesame latte was a miss for me. It tasted like straight sesame seed grounds and was very gritty. It didn't seem mixed well and was honestly hard to drink. The staff was friendly but also felt a bit distant at the same time. Service wasn't rude, but it didn't feel especially warm or welcoming either, almost like they didn't really want you to be there. Parking can be a little tricky right out front, but there are usually plenty of spots available in the main strip mall area nearby Trader Joe's. Overall, it's clear this place is very popular and busy, and I may have just caught it on an off day. Decent space and lots of options, but the drink and service didn't fully win me over on this visit. read more

Went on a Sunday around 1:00pm. Nice airy, spacious place with lots of natural light. Clean and comfortable. Servers were friendly. There is a parking lot with two handicapped parking spots. My partner had his first London Smog, he liked it. I had the Peppermint Mocha which was pretty good. Not a very strong coffee flavor, but good. We will be back. read more

I really like this place! I had never heard of it and found it here on Yelp. I moved to Minnetonka this past weekend. The service was fast despite how busy it is here. I love the butterscotch latte (highly recommend). Was greeted with a smile by friendly staff and there were a couple of tables open but I wish there was more space! The struggle of going somewhere popular. The coffee was kinda expensive as well but if you're a grad student like me -- it might be a great study spot. read more

A busy, but great and cozy little coffee shop creating specialty crafted coffees, teas, and other drinks, as well as delicious breakfast and lunch bites. This was my first visit, but it was visibly very popular as every table was full. The attendant at the counter was absolutely delightful. She recommended her favorite latte, and that's precisely what I went with: a Blueberry Iced Latte. My first time trying one and it did not disappoint ;) The blueberry syrup is strong, so if you're not a big blueberry fan, this might not be your jam. I went for their "Healthy choice" breakfast sandwich, which consisted of a fried egg, roasted tomatoes, and onions (I asked them to 86 my onions), Swiss cheese, and sliced turkey deli, warmed between two multigrain toasts that had a pesto sauce smeared on each slice in place of butter. It was savory, juicy, slightly sweet, and full of flavor--a filling morning bite which paired perfectly with my Blueberry latte. The vibes at this location are verrrrry casual, but their focus is on serving good coffee. They were pretty busy, and I did have a slight wait --primarily for my meal --but I would revisit, as everything, including the sandwiches, is made fresh, which makes all the difference in quality and flavor. It appears they are trying to address that by hiring more staff. All in all, Blackwater Coffee & Cafe had all the elements I appreciated in a first visit to a new coffee shop: good customer service, and a wide selection of drinks and bites. read more

Visited in a late Monday morning after looking for a new coffee shop to check out on the way to a playground with my kids. The shop itself is pretty standard and kind of tucked into the corner of a strip mall. Might not be a bad place to do some work if you live in the area. I got an ice coffee which was actually not bad at all. So why only 3 stars. The drip coffee my wife got tasted little different than gas station. Unfortunately. Now I do know as my wife says I'm am coffee snob. But I really hope for better at these places. I'm sure the lattes and such are good though if that's your thing. read more

I walked in on a Tuesday around 3:45pm and only had one customer in front of me. I read they make their chai syrup in house so I knew I needed to try it. My drink was SO delicious!! This place is a gem in an area of the twin cities without many local coffee shops. Some things I love about it: - friendly smiling service -free parking lot right outside - cleanliness -variety of the menu You can get anything from a hot coffee to a bubble tea here and both are equally as good. I haven't tried to food yet but looks like a great menu. There were multiple places with an outlet if needed. My favorite spot is next to the fireplace in the armchairs or right by the window in their booths. read more

I will miss this local coffee shop when I leave MSP tomorrow. I love their creative beverage offerings; Tanka Latte (latte with local honey and a dash of cinnamon) Symphony (black tea, espresso, black sugar 4 movements in harmony) and London Smog (Earl Gray tea latte with a shot of espresso added). Each beverage offering above is $6. They have some good food offerings as well, I have enjoyed their scones and muffins this week as well. Def recommend supporting this local business. I grew up going to the Maple Plain location, and I was really excited to check out this one today. The coffee was good, and the interior ambiance was nice. Service was also fast and friendly. Wanted to introduce some family visiting from Chicago to my Lady Friend. She asked if I had been to Blackwater. When it was a different chain a few years ago I had gone a few times but not to the new place. We agreed to check it out. First the gentleman behind the counter was very professional. He made up three Chai latte for the rels and my girl. For me I got an iced coffee. Secondly I noticed on the wall some very sophisticated menu items for any restaurant. Surprising for a coffee shop. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally stopped in. It wasn't too busy on a Monday afternoon, found parking right away. I got an iced coconut latte (coconut was one of their seasonal flavors) and it was delish! The coconut flavor wasn't too sweet/overpowering so it was the perfect twist to change up the latte. No complaints on the service or drinks, however, the interior was a little tacky and cheapish feeling - printer paper signs on tables asking people to share the space, signs saying there needs to be at least 4 people to a table, and old window art that just needs to be washed off. Also they had a paper sign that said no cash on the front door. Lots of paper signs that just seemed unnecessary and brought down the aesthetic. Other than that, they had a nice little patio set up outside so we soaked up the sun and sipped our coffees outside. Would go back to try other drinks and food! read more

Fun little local coffee shop! I'm making it a goal of mine to try all the neighborhood coffee shops near me, and Blackwater Coffee & Cafe is a perfect stop for a refreshing drink! I opted for green tea with mango syrup, but they have quite a variety of teas, boba, coffee, sandwiches, wraps, and bowls. Love that they offer more than just your typical coffee drinks. I got a dirty chai with oat milk and it was really bad. It tastes like watery black coffee with a tiny bit of milk that they steeped a tea bag in for a couple seconds. Could barely taste any chai at all and the coffee did not taste like the shot of espresso they advertised would be in it, and it was incredibly watered down. If this is what their regular coffee/espresso drinks taste like as well, then I do not recommend. read more

Swings into the new coffee joint in town this afternoon. I've been anxiously anticipating it's arrival as the area is barren of non-chain coffee places and I miss the city. LThis space was an old Caribou and I was a little bummed that more hasn't been done to the ambiance to make it feel like 'not another Caribou'. The menu is fun and offers your standbys as well as a few fun options for coffee beverages like an affogato (coffee and ice cream!). I tried the Tanka Latte which was their take on a miel but used almond milk and iced. I wasn't super satisfied with the result. The honey and cinnamon formed chunks and because I got it iced, they never became one with the coffee and milk so it created kind of a gross chunky mess. The coffee flavor itself was not my favorite but I also know the other flavors involved wouldn't make for a fair full assessment. They do have a nice food menu with sandwiches and salads that I may need to try at some point. While I wasn't super impressed by my first visit, I'd be willing to go back to try a hot beverage and a straight cappuccino to better taste the espresso flavors. read more

Yesterday I signed up to use their wifi on my android phone w no problem. Today tried to sign up using my iPad. It would not recognize password. Staff reports that has been a problem recently but nothing said when it will be fixed. Probably will not return. Very nice atmosphere. I needed to get a break from my place which had a power outage. I was able to get an ice coffee which was the coffee of the day with ice, the way I wanted it.
