So I went here on "accident" thinking it was a standard Viet joint. To my surprise, it was a vegan Vietnamese restaurant. I decided to try it out anyways. I was so impressed by the menu at first site. They had some dishes you only find in home cooking or in Vietnam. I tried the Canh Chua and Hot Pot "Fish". I was blown away by the flavors! The textures were very close. It was a little hard to tell if I should order up at the front counter or wait for service. I did get good service when they came and waited on me. The atmosphere is quiet and inviting. I was impressed by the whole setting! By the way, excellent portions! I was given a huge bowl of rice to supplement both of my entree dishes. Started with the Enoki Calamari and Spring Rolls (Gỏi Cuốn) - excellent! Then for entrees we ordered: Vegetarian Banh Mi Sandwich (Banh Mi Bi), Spicy Beef Noodle Soup (Bún Huế), and the Combination Fried Rice (Cơm Chiên Thập Cẩm). Everything was amazing. The Tofu in all the meals was prepared in a way I had never had before, and it was beyond good. The portions are HUGE! The service was fantastic. This is a must for any vegan or non-vegan- this is food done right. The biggest problem with this restaurant is that it is located in Minnetonka and I live in Saint Paul. If it was closer to me, I swear I would be there on a weekly basis. Years ago, I backpacked through Asia and ate a number of Buddhist monasteries that served only vegan food. Thanh Luong reminds me of those places. Then I get there. there are no other customers there. the server didn't like that I asked so many questions. I never got offered or received a drink. The only thing I'd change is add more rice noodles. The banh cảnh was so delicious with these vegan fish cakes that reminded me of my experiences of can tho food. Sweet people, awesome service, and delicious food! What more can you ask for? My family and I journeyed over to the area because I love the idea of a vegan Vietnamese restaurant. We tried the canh chua, ca kho, bun rieu, and bun hue. Everything we ordered was delicious and tasted like the real deal. While it's hard to replicate bun (bo) hue to a vegan version, they make a delicious version that has all the fixings that a traditional meat bowl would. I don't know how they make all their mock foods but it's really good and textured way too well. I loved the water spinach/hollow vegetable sauteed in garlic. It was go6ne cooking to the finest. I could eat it everyday if I live closer. The braised tofu in black pepper was ok. I recommend this dish as my go-to Vietnamese dish that never disappoints anywhere I go. He thought it was delicious as one might expect. I couldn't quite go "all stars" because the service, although pleasant, required that we had to go to the cashier counter to obtain take away containers and to pay our bill. "When we saw this place online, I was initially reluctant to visit because I'm not a big fan of tofu, and I've never eaten anything without meat. However, I decided to give it a try, thinking it's always a good idea to expand your palate and try new things. She said it was delicious and flavorful, but not very spicy. My entree was also delicious, surprised as I was that I enjoyed sweet potato, which was included in the curry. The veggie chicken was also a pleasant surprise and went well with everything else in the dish. The only downside was that my fiancée asked for a water refill, but it never arrived. Had to come back and try more stuff. Everything was as good as before or better! Service is great and they're very helpful if you have any questions. It's a small dining room and gets pretty slammed with both walk-in and to-go orders around 5-5:30 so you might wait a bit to get your food but it's worth it. The veggie pork was amazing and had the texture of pork belly. Crispy "skin" and the "fat" had the QQ you want. Pulled apart in layers just like the real thing. Was amazing and I'd get it again. I was surprised it didn't come with rice. The "Five Salad Sampler" was my favorite dish of the night. Loads of different textures, flavors, and color. Every bite was loaded with flavor and was big enough to be a meal or two. I would order this as an entree. The rice crackers are always a winner in my book. Lemongrass tofu was ok. A little soggy and a bit sweet for my taste but not bad at all. Was hoping for something more like the spicy tofu from Pho Mai. So far it's a 3-way tie between the sampler salad, sweet and sour soup, and vegan pork for my favorite dishes. Thanh Luong has taken up there spot as my favorite Vietnamese place; vegetarian or not. I went back to TL and I'm so glad I did!! They have improved so much! Every vegan item on the menu has a lovely little leaf icon which means so much to those of us that don't eat animals. The staff were friendly and welcoming. They answered all our questions with confidence. We loved our food! I was so excited to have egg rolls because every other restaurant only has meat ones. Thanh Luong quickly became one of my favorite restaurants despite me being an omnivore and the restaurant just recently opening/only having had their food twice. Most vegetarian food is either a 1) an afterthought, either tofu or canned mock duck is substituted for meat with no real effort, or 2) junk food (hamburgers, fried chick'n tenders or sandwiches, fried cauliflower buffalo wings, etc.) Thanh Luong genuinely put thought and effort into developing their menu and dishes using a variety of "meat substitutes" with different textures and flavors (yay, yuba/tofu skin, taro, and mushrooms!) which definitely don't make me miss pork/beef/chicken and truly do the Vietnamese flavors/dishes/expected textures justice. Their menu has most all of the dishes that you'd find on any non-vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant menu plus some! The portions are generous and most dishes contain a variety of elements - veggies, different "meat substitutes," carbs (rice or noodles,) flavors, and textures. My favorite dishes, that I could eat once a week or more, are the "Five Salad Samplers" (made up of mushrooms, tofu, carrots, napa cabbage, lotus, bell peppers, and homemade dressing) and the "House Special Broken Rice" or "Cơm Tấm" (veggie pork, shredded pork, and baked egg meat loaf served with broken rice, cucumber and tomato slices, and pickled carrots and daikon) which is my go-to at non-vegetarian Vietnamese restaurants. The only criticisms (but really due to personal preference) I have are the veggie fish sauce and peanut sauce are a bit too sweet and the spicy isn't spicy enough (I'm not a native Minnesotan .) The second (and maybe the first) can be remedied, if you eat in - there's sriracha and chili oil on each table. Both my husband and and I can't wait to go back! read more

Wow, flavorful, fresh and delish! We were looking for something new to try and noticed this restaurant that replaced a Thai restaurant we used to go to. All the options are vegetarian and so flavorful, we didn't miss the meat! Service is prompt and helpful. Ambience is cozy and cheery for a five in the suburbs. Wow! What a gem of a restaurant! We stopped in for dinner and chose to sit inside, although the sunny patio was tempting. Service was prompt and attentive. Everything we tried impressed us. I loved the texture on my stir fried chili lemongrass tofu, and the spring rolls and steamed dumplings were excellent (killer peanut sauce!) My friend had the braised eggplant with mushrooms and in addition to being tasty, the dish it was served in was gorgeous. Portions are large and you'll definitely have leftovers! I prefer to eat plant-based whenever I can so I came here on recommendation of friends. They were not wrong! I was extremely pleased with the spring rolls and the Pho. I've tried Pho in many places and this is now at the top of my list. My all time favorite is Bonjour Vietnam in Paris. Now I don't have to wait for my next trip. The broth was savory, the noodles were perfect and all the other ingredients were full of flavor. I left satisfied after a delicious meal. I'll certainly be back often! A great place for all vegetarians, vegans, and just food lovers. The food is great, fresh and flavorful. We stopped for lunch and this was our first visit to this restaurant located in a faceless strip mall on Cedar Lake Road. It is not a fancy place, but there were a lot of beautiful Vietnamese decorations on the walls. The service is friendly and quick. We ordered a portion of spring rolls with peanut sauce and a braised eggplant and mushroom stew with rice . We split both dishes and it was quite adequate for us. Both dishes were wonderful. The prices are very reasonable: the spring rolls were $6 for two pieces and the stew was $14. We are not vegetarians per se but I may become one with the food like this :) read more

Just went for dinner today, and thinking about it, this might be the closest equivalent you can get to Buddhist tourist temple food in Minnesota. It's a clean, efficient strip mall location. I had the Vietnamese pepper 'fish' in a clay pot; partner had the orange tofu. We shared and the orange tofu was good, but the fish blew my mind. Incredibly rich broth of soy sauce, mushrooms, scallions; Seaweed is used to replicate fish skin, wrapped around some sort of gluten or soy based mock meat. Rice was delicious; Summer rolls (with shredded mock pork and lettuce) were texturally dry but tasty. If you want hot tea, it's served in a nice pot, loose leaf green.
