For years, we have always taken our Avalon to the local Toyota dealership. Due to a decision of convenience and a sense of adventure we decided to try something new and in doing so, we found Blackwell to be the exact opposite experience we always got from a trip to the dealership. With fast turnaround, frugality with my money, timely communication about options, status and repairs made that did not have to be "fixed" again due to a missed diagnosis or poor work, it was truly a great experience. On our roadtrip from California to Georgia, our car had its engine light on. We went to the closest mechanic and it had been the best that I've ever been! The gentleman in front was so kind and accommodating. We ended up having to stay at the store, one wait was just to check and then another 2 hours was for the fix. They had waiting rooms (with a nice TV, reclining couch, free snacks and drinks, and chargers). The bathroom was so nice! Had many accommodations and a warming toilet seat. Even though the car issue damper the roadtrip experience, this shop was a blessing! read more

I haven't actually been a customer of this establishment, but I am a huge fan of the TLC show "My 600-lb. Life." And the owner of this establishment - - after the subject of S12E3 had her vehicle break down barely an hour away from home (and several travel days away from their final destination), he volunteered to keep their vehicle and repair it whilst allowing them a FREE loaner to drive all the way to Houston, Texas and back. We are are RVers (towing a Chevy) and travel all over the Americas; if we EVER need any assistance with ANY vehicle - - or if anyone we know in the Chattanooga area is in need of automotive assistance - - just based on what I have seen, this place is the ONLY place to go in Eastern Tennessee. This country is going absolutely downhill, and to see someone be so absolutely intrinsically kind changes everything. Paid 200.00 for air filter and cabin air filter, was told a short time later at my oil change shop that my filter was very dirty. Could have been overlooked but It caused one to be suspicious. They do the same job for 21.95 each. Was called at home and told my valve cover gaskets were "pouring". Actually did have a few drops but certainly not pouring. had them replaced later at another shop for forty percent of the price given at Blackwells. I actually went there on a friend's recommendation. You can guess whether I will go back. They do have have a nice waiting room though. As you sit there, if you have a funny feeling in your pocket, it is your money being sucked out of your wallet by an invisible vaccumn. read more

I came to find this place because of auto shop losing my keys. This is actually a auto center for Lexus and Toyota vehicles. Actually it's more for the Lexus dealership and it shows in the service and luxury they provide all their customers. They have two sitting rooms that are very comfortable and cozy and come with beverages snacks activities TV and so much more. They even have a local art on the wall for sale that you can either enjoy or purchase. What got me though was when I went to the bathroom and I felt like a weenie CVS was president they had everything from allergy medications to tampons, pads, headache medicine, nail files and the list goes on and on. You're kind of making me want to buy Lexus just so that I can get it serviced here. I would totally recommend this place and go back there anytime read more

I have been using Blackwell Automotive for all maintenance and repairs on my Lexus and Toyota autos since I discovered them in 2003. I know when they tell me I need to do some maintenance they are not just saying it to get more money from me. I have been told by other shops certain repairs are needed but when they check my auto I am told that even tho there is some wear, there is no rush to get the repair done and can wait until the next service or even later. They truly treat everyone like family and you can completely trust what they tell you. read more

This place was recommended to me by my parents, who have been coming here for a few years now. They tried to milk more repairs out of my car than necessary. Original bill was going to be ~$3k but hiked it up to $11k. I stopped their service and took my vehicle to a different shop, where they said most of the things Blackwell was trying to replace did not need replacing. With shady practices like this, I do not recommend going here. They lost three customers out of this ordeal. I can't speak enough good things about this business! I had previously shopped around for a repair for my 2015 Camry that had a very loud rattling/pop coming from the sunroof. When I found this business they were very nice with trying to help me narrow down the issue and getting me a reasonable quote! I had a quick turn around and they called me about a week or two later to make sure the repair was still working properly! I went to Blackwell for a 2nd opinion and saved over $2,000! My usual mechanic recommended four new struts for my 2017 Toyota Corolla, quoting me a little over $2,000. My car was only at 100,000 miles and didn't have a bouncy ride, so I wondered if this was necessary. My mechanic also recommended new front inner tie rods for $450 since these were seized. So I shopped on Yelp for a cheaper quote. Although Blackwell wasn't the cheapest quote (it was very competitive), they DID comment that a young car needing new struts was odd. I chose them for this reason, plus a friend highly recommended them for quality and honesty. I was surprised that Blackwell doesn't take appointments. I came at 8:30am, stayed to read a book in their comfortable waiting area, helped myself to decently good coffee and yummy snacks. Eventually they got to my car, found the struts were good (saving me $2,000), and they wanted to try unseizing the tie rods by heating them instead of just replacing them. Meanwhile the manager brought lunch for a couple that was waiting on a particularly involved repair and gave me a lunch box too! Every Blackwell worker's interaction with customers was respectful, friendly and attentive. I left at 12:30pm having only paid $150 for labor, no new parts necessary! Because of an alignment policy I will continue to get alignments at my old mechanic. But otherwise I'm a Blackwell convert! read more

This stunning, that is correct, STUNNING, place is family owned and operated. They have two comfortable and useful waiting areas. Both areas are stocked with entertainment and snacks. They have complimentary drinks and snacks of all sorts. The excellent staff go out of their way to maintain your Lexus or Toyota automobiles. I have spotted them maintaining other imports. The family that owns it "The Blackwell's," are always generous and clear with advice and costs. They can fix just about anything mechanical on cars with a mechanic staff that are thorough and honest. Since 2004 they have created a loyal group of customers they treat like family. They offer a local art gallery that changes quarterly inside the main foyer. 1 waiting room has a TV and work station while the other officers 2 computers. Both areas have plenty of books and things to look at while you wait. They also have a coffee bar. DID I MENTION THIS IS A PLACE TO GET YOUR CAR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR WORK DONE! They did just remodel and it's always clean. They have 2 restrooms that are spotless and full of toiletries...if you want some lotion or a toothpick. read more

This shop is shady as heck. I am a woman from another state. I have a difficult time finding a trustworthy shop, being a single woman, shops often take advantage of me. This shop took advantage of me the worst by far! My Lexus needed a high pressure power steering hose. I told them I wasn't in any rush, bc I had another vehicle to drive. SIX MONTHS later, I call to see if they'd fixed it to learn that 1) no they had not, & 2) they had it towed to a tow yard (in a bad area). I had to pay $160 for labor (they installed a battery and alternator- which I had provided). $160!!!! They never called me to inform me that they needed car off their lot, and we're going to tow it off. I had to pay $350 to the tow yard as well! Also, I had my entire CD collection in my Lexus, which are now gone. So, do not trust this shop! This experience disgusts me! read more

I cannot say enough about how wonderful this place is. I live outside of Nashville, but I was in Chattanooga a couple weeks ago for work and had an emergency situation with my car in the middle of a very important work day (I work out of my car). I found the closest place near me, which happened to be Blackwell Automotive. When I went in and desperately explained my situation, they took my car back immediately, even though they were semi-busy. Not only did they quote me an extremely fair price, but they arranged a rental car for me, drove me to Hertz, fixed my car in just a couple hours, and even arranged for my rental car to be picked up to save me time. I wish I could remember everyone's name that helped me, but everyone from the guys behind the desk to the mechanic that fixed my car was extremely kind and went above and beyond. I don't know if they fully understand the timeline I was on to get my car back or how much they saved me from the frustration I surely would have endured at another repair shop, but thank you guys so much!!! To top it off, I even tried to tip the mechanic $20 and he wouldn't accept it! To anyone in the Chattanooga area, if you need a mechanic, this is it! read more
