Would never shop in this store again. Never met ruder sales help. Bought something from them the girl that was working said I could return it never said store credit only when I took it back the guy said store credit only for that item. Nothing posted about returns and their store policy. Was told to take it or leave it. Extremely nasty. read more

Very poor customer-service. Two days ago my fiance called to inquire about a photo shoot with Santa. The girl who answered the phone said it was $10 for the photo and $5 for a second photo. Yesterday we took our dog to Blackwinds for the photo shoot and was told that if we wanted to be in the photo it would be an additonal $10 per person. This was done not by the store, but by a local (non-professional as it turns out) photographer. We decided to get the photo anyway and was told we would be sent a link for the photo by email. Almost 12 hours later without a link I was getting a little upset. This morning they were on the photorapher's website, or at least only two out of at least 10 were with watermarks. Today I found out that the $10 we paid for the picture was only a sitting fee. This fee didn't include the photots and if we wanted the photos we would have to pay additional. This morning I went back to the store to compain. The store manager insisted that it wasn't the stores fault. I had to hem and haw for 15 minutes and come back a second time to get my refund. I will not be going back and will spend my money at the Petsmart down the street from now on. read more

The male manager there seems to be the only worker there that's not annoying and a hassle to deal with. He makes shopping easier, informant on items, and doesn't give you hell if you need to exchange something for store credit for whatever given reason. The other female workers on the other hand drag it. Had an issue w some bones I got for my pup(as he would swallow them whole) so I bought them back in, to exchange for something bigger. The female worker I encountered was most annoying, I couldn't help but laugh and leave. Was not trying to give me store credit, instead she was calling the 1-800 number for the bones I got. Once tried to bring something in to exchange bc my dog didn't care for it at all; the female worker stated I needed to have a receipt, although it was obviously their merchandise. Tell me why I just went about my business and just picked up some dog canned food and brought it to the counter... The male manager checked me out and asked what did I have in the bag. I showed him and he credited me for the item and confiscated it. Like why does every other worker give me hell? It's baffling. I just want to get in and get out( although the other workers do succeed in making me get out.) I'm gonna just start immediately walking out whenever I don't see the trusted rep. The store has nice items overall...Some canned goods you don't see at petco. read more

There have been many negative reviews for this store, so I'm prompted to write one in their defense. While I agree that the prices on some items are high, others are reasonable. While the staff are young and scatterbrained, they are also worked very hard and very knowledgeable about the animals; for example, they won't let you leave with your animal unless you at least highly consider buying a book about how to care for it. This store has always helped me with my silly worried pet-owner questions, and they have ordered obscure products for me on account of our agreement that it would be best for my pets. I don't know what these other people are talking about; they feed the animals the highest quality food, give them excellent habitats, and do their best to satisfy customers--and they're always busy, so others must agree. read more

This is the only place I go to for cat food (only the best for my kitties! ). They only sell quality pet food, plus they have a nice variety of toys and supplies for all different kinds of pets. The store is clean and the staff is knowledgeable. Lately they have been showing shelter cats at the store as well, I really respect them for that. They have a good variety of fish as well, as well as small animals. I'm very glad that we have a good pet store in the city! read more

For 7 years I have been customer of Blackwinds Pet supplies. The shop is well stocked with anything you might need for what ever pet you may have. The store is clean, bright, and the employees are friendly. I visit the store about once a month to stock up. I have 8 parrots so there are many needs. The prices are competitive and, in some cases you can find some extraordinary buys, like the macaw play stand I bought for $150. That was a real buy! My only wish is that Blackwinds would stock Higgins bird foods. read more
