I got him today and I'm not happy either. Probably will find a new barber. I got shredded by his clippers and now realize my average tip was actually too much. The cut hurt way more than it should have. I'm not sure if it was dirty clippers or just a bad cut but I could feel the blades digging in. My neck is red and irritated with an obvious cut. I'm including a picture so you can see I'm not exaggerating. Really poor experience. A new barber fresh from school would've been less painful. It should have been free.

Ken seems to be a fine barber, but he charges the kind of prices you'd expect from a downtown stylist, not a cut-rate-looking barber shop in a weird, unsigned building that it shares with a sad-looking sports bar off of Third St. I made an appointment today for a haircut. When I arrived and asked for a beard trim as well, Ken told me there wouldn't be time for both because his schedule was fully booked and I hadn't mentioned the beard. That seemed a little odd (what barber can't make time for a beard trim along with a haircut?), but I figured I'd just get the beard done today and come back later for the haircut. The beard trim went fine, I guess -- a lot of attention to detail (I've never had a barber spend so much time staring at my face from so many different angles), but I was really surprised when he charged me $26 for it. I'm used to paying less than that for a cut AND trim at a typical barber shop. I left feeling completely ripped off. At least I didn't have time for the haircut; Ken told me that the cut/trim combo would've cost me $46.

I'm also particular about my haircut, which is a polite way of saying I know exactly what I like and notice when it is not right. Hayden gets it right every time. He listens to what I want, somehow translates my vague haircut instructions into something that actually looks good, and then does his barber magic. He is friendly, easy to talk to, and so good at what he does that I followed him to this shop from his last one. That should tell you everything. Appointments are easy to make, parking is easy, and the shop itself has a great vibe. Everyone there seems like they enjoy what they do, which makes the whole experience even better. My son now sees Hayden for his haircuts too, so apparently good barber decisions run in the family. Hayden is a great barber, a great guy, and the reason my hair still has a fighting chance. Highly recommend.
