Dr. Maslen is hands down the best; can not recommend him higher. My wife and I both love him. My…read moredad was my PCP for years, but after he retired I struggled for years to find a new PCP... and stumbled on Dr. Maslen based on a recommendation on our community list serve. Making him our family doc was the best decision we ever made. He is INCREDIBLY approachable; you never feel rushed, he takes the time to answer all questions big and small -- and over all just seems to go the extra mile, and REALLY & TRULY CARE about his patients. PCPs/General practitioner family docs are a dying breed. To find a PCP that is a sole practitioner, not in a large medical group is EXTREMELY rare, if not basically extinct these days. It makes SUCH a HUGE difference to have a doc, where you are HIS patient rather than just another number to a random group practice. The gold ol' days of medicine are almost gone and it is just so amazing that Dr. Maslen is still there. All the pressures in medicine today push, if not force docs to sell their practices and join these large medical groups-- costs, insurance, etc are the culprit here. We are just so thankful to have a doctor that loves what he does and endures the incredible pressures to retain his independent sole practice. Idk.. I could keep rambling... but there are not enough words to convey how grateful my wife and I are for Dr. Maslen.

I move a lot and have to find new doctors ...a lot. I read every review I can on in network doctors…read morebefore closing a PCP and I opted to choose Dr Maslen even though the wait was THREE months long. I believe I learned that he sets aside 2 appointments per week for new patients. I learned this bc I called so many times hoping for an opening. Not because it was urgent. But I wanted to make sure referrals were going to be in place, etc. No one cancels their appts. so when they say 3 months and "they'll call you if there's a cancellation...." don't hold your breath. But I'm very happy with my new PCP! He was comfortable with my diagnoses and complicated conditions and the treatment course I'm on so I actually am not going to all of those specialists appts. for now. He was so nice, easy to talk to and made me feel welcome.

Dr. Berard is an excellent physician - for all of the reasons others have mentioned below. I am in…read moremy mid-fortes and have been a patient for 20 years. It is an hour drive for me to see him, but I think it's worth it. I have had many difficult issues to diagnose issues over the years - and he is patient, knowledgeable, and answers my questions without rushing me. As others have noted, this sometimes does cause wait times, but once he is with you, he is focused on you (I build the wait time into my schedule whenever I go in). His medical assistants and lab staff are also really quality professionals. Since being acquired by Adventist Group, it is true that the front desk staff quality has diminished. I am not sure why -- several have been there for years. But it is true that when you call, the wait time can be extensive and the staff seem annoyed to have to answer the phone and generally frustrated by work-related tasks. While sitting in the waiting room, I have observed the front desk staff place patients on hold for up to five minutes, so that they could finish personal conversations about non-work related issues (e.g., dating, celebrity gossip, etc.). I would suggest a review of the front desk staff - I think better quality staff could be found.

Shady business practices which result in financial implications for patients. I was given a…read morediagnostic referral for a preventative annual appointment. This was never communicated to me. In fact when I requested the referral it was shared that I'm making my annual wellness appointments. I've attempted to rectify this with the billing department who assured me the office manager would get back to me. That was over two weeks Safe to say this practice does not value their patients. It is reflected in the practices and the client service.

Before the appointment I was inundated with 'confirm appointment' texts on a daily basis to my phone (and to my email as well). I'm not sure how many times is necessary to have to confirm an appointment, but doing it every day is ridiculous. Then afterwards was another experience. I had a blood test done in the office and the person there said it would be done by LabCorp. After the results came back, they provided a terse report on their online portal but it was unprintable. When I asked for the report so I could print it their response for me was to schedule another appointment. I don't see why I have to schedule a second appointment just to get my lab report. I paid for the report so I would think if they offer it online via a portal, i should just be able to get the report in hand. Moreover I worked with LabCorp directly because my report never showed up in my labcorp account. It was weeks later when I discovered the blood test wasn't done with LabCorp. They lied to me in the office. I actually prefer Quest Diagnostics over LabCorp but was willing to settle for LabCorp since that is what they said my blood test was going through that company. At the end I had to contact my insurance company and force a representative to have the doctor office provide me with a printable blood report. I eventually received it but what they did was scan the report (printout) and upload it to my portal as a letter called 'letter.pdf'. Which made me realize this doctors office/company is just in it for the money. After all this I keep getting texts written in such a way that look like i have made an appointment with them. here is the text of a message I received this last wednesday: Hi name, This is First Medical Associates! Don't forget to book your follow-up: History for December, 12. and then they give me a link to schedule it. That date changes with each message I receive, and if one isn't paying attention, they will end up scheduling their next appointment whether or not they really wanted to. If you fail to show up for an appointment you will get billed. I'm not impressed and probably won't go back again. Additionally: my wife saw them in this same office and was billed for her appointment and the annual physical. However the physical was added on by the worker there. She didn't actually get her physical nor standard blood test. We complained to the insurance company because she was forced to waste her annual physical without actually having it done. The above basically tells you they are in it more for the money and less for patient care Additional data point. about 6 months after the covid lockdown I saw their columbia office for covid tests and was told after the first test came back that I had covid. I had to go through a whole protocol which forced me to stay at home (missing work) and then wear a mask at work for a week following. However about 24 hours later the office called me to tell me it was a false positive. I didn't have covid at all. However my company said I still had to follow the covid protocol. That was not a happy experience.
