My dog went to be spayed 4 years ago and upon opening her up they discovered she had closed pyrometra. Two stars only because Brooke at the front desk was nice. I arrived for my appointment and the lobby was completely full, no seats open. So I let them know I would just wait in my car and to call me. They said no problem. After waiting 45 minutes I just went ahead and canceled and went home. I'm not sure how you get that far behind at 10am. I recommend they close out more appointment times to ensure they're somewhat on time to respect peoples time they take off work to get their pets seen. read more

Excellent experience from making appointment through office and caregivers. I feel happy with this practice taking care of my little dog!

Love the staff very good people including the vet. He gets down on the floor and interacts with your dog if they are bigger in size. The only downside is the high cost, of their services as compared to my previous vet. Been there twice for my dog and both times $350-400 bill, never received my 15% off first visit. I value my time so both times for my visits I did not have to wait long which is a plus and they always have appointments when my dog is ill or if there is an emergency but you will be charged an additional fee for emergency visit which to me is a bit much. I was not advised of the extra ER vet fee when making the appt. until you get the bill. I would highly recommend Dr. Blake to really review his pricing and I understand you have over head cost and staff cost however; as a dog owner I know that animals cost money but the prices are too inflated reason for the 4 stars. I do trust Dr. Blake reason I am going there that's important to me. Recommend them giving a pricing to customers before and charging less than $58 for a follow up visit those should be no more than $30 as compared to my previous vet. This clinic is meticulously clean and love the peaceful outdoor area equipped with benches to enjoy the outdoors. I would highly recommend Dr. Blake noting the cost. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by everyone I spoke to who's familiar w/ Dr. Blake & his staff! Had I listened to others, I would have saved my precious cat & me trips to two different vets, $820, & lots of time & worry. Due to being open just 4 hrs on Saturdays (8 AM-Noon) & being jammed pack w/ clients, Mae (my 1.5 yr old Siberian Forest cat) could not be examined w/o an appointment; however, I was allowed to bring her in to have her temperature taken. Due to her fever still being moderately high, Mae was given fluids thru an IV. I was allowed to take her home (WITHOUT paying yet), & to return her for an 8 AM Monday appt. Mae returned today for an exam & a possible endoscopy (which two previous pets felt she needed). Today's exam by Dr. Blake was just $42. The fluids on Saturday cost me $25. Thankfully, my cat is much better & a bad virus is suspected; no new tests are necessary, & within 3 wks Mae should be fine. This vet could have easily required his own testing of my feline (a repeat of X-rays, blood tests, fecal & urine screens, etc.)-- but he didn't! That's impressive! This is a small town, highly qualified vet who provides service that so seldom exists in this day & age. (He even treats exotic animals & offers complete dental services, along w/ cremation that provides a choice of three urns.) Staffer Brooke spent at least fifteen minutes on the phone w/ me during the initial phone call. She was INCREDIBLE-- incredibly kind, patient, & friendly. Katie, the surgical tech who was responsible for Mae both days, was BEYOND EXCELLENT; it's obvious she truly loves animals & cares about providing excellent service to their human caregivers. Susan, who checked Mae & me in & out today, was a sweetheart. This is an older staff who offers small town manners, professionalism, & personal service. Even the patrons in the waiting area were very friendly. I've never seen so many doors held nor have I seen so many strangers greeting others as each entered. Had I taken all the recommendations of BluePearl in Tampa prior to chancing it w/ this vet, my cat would have cost me $2450 for an overnight & a repeat of tests before additional monies for any test or procedure the internist ordered the following day (including the endoscopy it turns out my cat didn't need). I could have easily spent $5000+ on a cat who simply has a bad virus. If you think you're going to need many services here (& you're a new customer), buy the Yelp offer; you'll get $150 worth of services (in one visit) for $100. This is a no frills vet-- the building is a decades old four bedroom house converted into an animal hospital. The patrons I met were all country folk. My helpful neighbor, whose beloved "Buddy" had to be put down last week, refers to Dr. Blake as "the animal whisperer." Each person I spoke to about this veterinarian raves about him. One woman in her 70's stated she's used vets "up north & in Florida for years," & no vet even comes close to being as kind & as qualified as Dr. Blake. Say no more. I'm sold! From word-of-mouth & from my Mae's experience w/ this veterinary office, my Maine Coon & my Siberians have now found a new vet-- a vet who offers well needed & appreciated Saturday hours! read more

Excellent veterinarian and wonderful staff. I went there for the first time this month for my dog that was very ill. They got her in right away and scheduled her surgery for the following week. It's been three weeks since her splenectomy. As sick as she was prior to going into his office, I didn't think she'd make it to the end of the year. I would recommend Dr. Blake for all veterinarian needs, the staff the facility, and Dr. Blake are all wonderful, and their pricing is more than fair. Awesome staff and vet! My 1st visit was pleasant because staff and vet were friendly and professional. The only drawback is the fees. 1. Thyroid test-I generally paid $54, they charged $75. 2. 6-month supple of thyroid meds-I generally pay $65 but they charged $98.50. Future medications will be order via chewy.com 3. Heartworm test-I generally paid $20-25, they charged $45. I did not receive 15% discount for first visit clients on my bill of $328.40. I contacted office today for a refund. I will return to this office because they are the best vet office I've dealt with since moving to FL. read more

Dr. Blake saved my little girl (140-lb female Mastiff) when she got a stump pyometra last Aug. I took her to an ER hospital first after she was vomiting and bleeding as if she had a period but she was already spayed in Dec 2020. The ER doctor called to let me know that there was something in the x-ray that needed to be followed up with her regular vet or a specialist since it might be cancer or pneumonia. I was crying and in a state of panic when I took my little girl to see Dr. Blake who squeezed her in so that she could be seen sooner rather than later. I found Dr. Blake to be very compassionate. He told me that he thought it was more likely to be secondary pneumonia due to the stump pyo. He scheduled a surgery to remove it 2 days later, and now my little girl is snoring happily again. Also in Jan 2022, I took my big boy (her brother 151-lb mastiff) to get neutered and gastropexied with Dr. Blake. I told the staff no ACE since my mastiff had a bad reaction to this anesthesia before. But because my boy was scared and did not like being at a vet's office, and he was big, the staff was scared of him, thinking he was going to be aggressive. So they said they would have to give him ACE and morphine to sedate him. I refused and was about to leave when Dr. Blake came over and listened to my concern. I explained to him my dog's previous reaction to ACE, and also the fact that he was ok at another vet's office (Urgent Care Vet on 56 by Sam's Club) and a mobile vet even in tight space of the mobile hospital. He never attacked anyone even when he was led away from me into the back room and I waited in the waiting room in the front. So Dr. Blake agreed that if we could walk him to the operating room and his tech could get the IV in him without a problem, then we could proceed without using ACE. Lucky for me, I had a friend who helped me with my big boy that morning, and he helped walk my big boy to the operating room. My boy listened to him. Once there, we left, and the tech was able to get the IV in him. So he got neutered and pexied as planned without any incidence. I found that Dr. Blake's price is reasonable and fair. I also find that the staff is very friendly. I like that the parking is nice for my scared dogs because it's secluded and private just for the clinic and it's away from the street. It feels safe for them. read more

My dogs had been patients of Dr. Blake for almost 10 years for their check ups and shots (not surgeries). The wait times have been increasing substantially in those years, but still I hung in there because of convenience of location. I understand the nature of the business, unexpected emergencies, etc., however, today was the final straw. I had a 10:45 appt for my one dog and an 11:30 for the other, after waiting an hour and never being seen, at 11:45 decided to cancel and leave. I got a weak "sorry" apology, not an actual time I would be seen or any other compensation. This is unacceptable to schedule so many clients at one time for a practice with different animals (not all socialized) crammed into a small reception area. I certainly don't have that kind of time to spend and still not be seen, so I am taking them to another vet now. read more

This was my vet for four years and after today I will never go here again or recommend Dr Blake to anyone. We breed maltipoos and we suppected our female was pregnant. We took her in and they only took an x-ray and said she was less than 40 da yes and couldn't hardly see any skeletal bodies, but didn't do an ultrasound. So we figured we had at least 20+ days. We were to leave on a cruise two days later. We didn't prepare for a birth because we would have plenty of time when we came back according to Dr. Blake. This was on Thursday. We left for a week cruise on Saturday. She had babies on Tuesday. The dog sitter came in that morning and she was fine. She came back that evening and found momma with one baby in her crate. I called home to check on how things were and she informed me of the birth. I was surprised that she only had one baby, so I had her take her to the vet. He took another x-ray and said there was no more left. IShe took momma and baby to her house for extra care. The next morning she returned to feed the other two dogs and they both began barking uncontrollable at her. They both had a baby that they were keeping warm. So she reunited them with momma also. They began searching the house, but didn't find anymore. The following day when she came back, my other female wouldn't come when she called. Finally, she came and my sitter realized she was coming from my bedroom , in which she thought was closed off, so they didn't search. When they opened the door, they found another puppy. He was barely alive. This time, she took the baby to her vet and they were very shocked that my vet was so far off the due date and wondered why he had not done an ultrasound. She tried keeping the puppy alive, but he died anyway. I was furious!!! Today it called Dr. Blake to see who read the x-ray and how could he have missed the date by so far. Why wasn't an ultrasound done? The last liter, they did one to count babies. Brooke the receptionis, was very understanding. She put me on hold and went to ask the doctor. She came back on the line and said the doctor said, well they could have been born prematurely. (three weeks? I doubt it, they weigh what they should for full term) Then said an ultrasound wouldn't tell how many, only that there was a heartbeat. (Then why have paid for an ultrasound on all past litters for puppy count?) Finally, and most important......Brooke said I understand your frustration, I'm really sorry about your loss...in the background I hear Dr. Blake say, "NOTHING TO BE SORRY FOR". I couldn't believe that is what I heard. I asked if that is what he just said and after a pause, she said yes. What a HEARTLESS sob. This man doesn't deserve being a vet. I definitely don't want him talking care of my babies. He missed the mark by a mile, but that wasn't what did it, it was the horrible comment from his mouth that did it. read more

They aren't the type of place where they will over charge or run needless tests to rack up the bills. They are straight forward with you and always treated my baby as if she was their own. They really take their time with you, which I love, and I feel their prices are comparable to other vets. I drive almost 35 minutes here, passing by who knows how many vets in the Tampa area. I've been to 3 around my house in New Tampa and none have lived up to the needs I have as a dog (3) & cat (1) mom. My poor pups have experienced everything from ear & skin infections to a UTI (most recently), and everything they've recommended has worked. They're compassionate--I had to witness a sad interaction of a man having to put down his dog. :( I really appreciate their knowledge and kind heartedness, and they never show any aggravation when I ask last minute for a nail trim of my 85lb lab. Dr. Blake and ALL of the techs are just wonderful. I've been bringing my two year old dog Lucy here since I adopted her at eight weeks and one day old. My two cats, Jinx and Yipes (both almost five years old), are also patients here and have been since they were kittens. When Yipes had a urinary blockage, the staff nursed him back to health with overnight care. Lucy had damage to her eye when she was a puppy and almost lost it but ended up better than ever thanks to Dr. Blake and the techs. Even though I moved to Brandon, I still drive an hour just to see them. I trust them and they give amazing care. I took my dog in with what I thought was a eye infection. The vet I saw believed she had glaucoma and recommend a vet who could help us? No medication was prescribed at that time. I almost fell over when I paid the bill. $89 for a fifteen minute office call with a referral to another doctor. I'm retired and on a fixed income. I knew if I went to the vet that I was referred to another $89 or more would probably be charged. I ended up going to a walk in clinic in Zephyrhills. My dog had an eye infection. I received medication and the office visit for $33. Her eyes are looking great now. Thanks for taking my money Blake Veterinary Clinic. I won't be back. read more

Once again Blake Veterinary Hospital has welcomed a new member to our family....Mosby, the Gray Ghost. His photo is the Isabella and Tan (the blue and the gray ) doxie in the crate. Mosby came to us by way of Chapmans Dachshund Rescue in York, South Carolina ( near Charlotte NC). He was hit by a car and left for dead. Unfortunately his injuries include inoperable broken and separated right rear femur and multiple pelvic fractures. The little fellow is in no pain and although he wobble/walks on 4 legs, he can only wobble/run on 3 legs. Dr. Blake was kind enough to review his X-rays and consult with us by phone (since we were in NC) and email prior to Mosby's adoption. Because of his opinion on Mosby's prognosis, we decided to adopt what has turned out to be an OUTSTANDING companion. He may not be perfect physically but in all other ways he is way, way beyond our expectations. Mosby was greeted by the entire staff AND Dr. Blake for his first appointment with them last Tuesday. It was love at first sight for everyone.
