I wish I had taken pictures of my experience here because it's so mysterious with so few reviews…read moreand photos. I didn't want to look like an awkward tourist with my selfie stick though so I resisted the urge to whip out my camera. I was fortunate enough to make it into the club through a work dinner with someone who had keys to the palace. I had to do a double take when I walked in because I was afraid I had stepped into a time warp because Ben Franklin himself might as well have been lounging in the library smoking a cigar. But it turns out they just take great pride in preserving the decor and original state of the building. That in of itself is worth it just so you can see the inside. Service was great, they were quick to refill drinks, check and see how we were doing, etc. We shared several apps including baked Brie which was served with greens, candied nuts and jam. It was divine. The Brussels sprouts were a close second for me. My entree was the swordfish with asparagus and mashed potatoes. Very good, though lacked another dimension that would have taken it to a 4 star plate for me. We were all too full for dessert but chose to share their famed macaroons which were delicious. One of the flavor a was gluten free though I don't remember which one. Could have fooled me, If you get the chance to go here definitely try it as there aren't many places left like this, but I wouldn't swap my favorite restaurants for this place just yet.

During this same time, the Masons realized most of their membership was dying off, so they decided to have a group recruitment, kind of like a Moonie mass wedding. Each person recruited would automatically be bounced up three degrees in status by merely observing the rituals rather than participating (and, no, I'm not spilling beans, but only because I've forgotten nearly all of the secret stuff). So my friend asked me and a couple of others to join, thinking his status within the organization would be enhanced by his zealous recruitment. I really just wanted to see the interior of the enormous and grim building, which is tucked directly behind City Hall, and found myself standing in the lobby of the temple with a guy from Brazil and a long-haired kid, all of us in suits, milling with a few hundred other guys, the vast majority of them older, chummy businessmen glad-handing each other like George Babbitt. All of the 'public' rooms were large, high ceilinged, dusty and kind of dowdy, and barer than I'd expected. A billiard room, a very large and sort of institutional dining room, and lots of side rooms hung with portraits and photos of old members and fantastic old representations of masonic cosmology. The space was beautiful in a quietly noble-despairing kind of way and I finally got to see it, but of course, now I am a Mason.

We have found this organization a pleasure to deal with. They are always super friendly and helpful…read moreand, on a personal level, it makes us feel good to know that we are helping those less fortunate. It is, in my opinion, easy to take certain things for granted. I cannot imagine being homeless. It costs us nothing to donate clothing and when we do the folks in admin that we encounter are always grateful. There is also a young man there by the name of Early - who is a Navy vet. He is a great guy and very personable. Next time you have clothing you no longer want consider donating here. Upon arrival if you need help they will unload your vehicle for you. Also, if you are so inclined, they will give you a receipt for tax purposes. Consider helping some folks (including kids) that don't have the basic things that you are likely fortunate enough to have.

A young…read moreHispanic man that worked there helped carry them in, gave me a form to fill out for my donation and even offered me a cup of coffee. I spoke to him in length and was impressed by his love for his job. I went back to the same shelter this winter to donate more items and was rudely greeted by a pregnant woman. A cup of coffee apparently wasn't an option, and a thank you or a nice smile wasn't either. I spoke to this woman and told her how the last time I was greeted warmly by this young man and she let me know, and when I say she let me know I mean she treated me like she was scolding a child, that she is the supervisor and he only does the overnight shift. I guess that means she doesn't have to be nice and he went out his way to be. I have never met anyone that was so rude and full of themselves then this lady and to be honest I don't know how she works at a place that helps people. If Interfaith partnership for the homeless employs supervisors with those attitudes, I not only feel sorry for the staff but I feel sorry for the homeless people as well. I will no longer donate items to Danielle's house or any affiliate to Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless. I also encourage my church and other parishes to help elsewhere because if a "Supervisor" acts with disdain toward people trying to help, I can only imagine how she acts with people that need help. Smh.
