My family and I had one of the most absurd and frustrating grocery store experiences I've ever seen at Blanton's Grocery Store. My aunt (44) and uncle were using the self-checkout and bought a case of beer. Instead of simply checking the ID of the person purchasing the alcohol, the employee demanded to see the ID of everyone standing anywhere nearby. My aunt, who is clearly well over 21, was forced to show ID even though she wasn't the one paying. Then my sister (24) and her boyfriend (32) were also told they had to show ID just for standing nearby. They actually had to walk all the way back outside to their vehicle just to grab their IDs to satisfy this ridiculous demand. The part that really pushed things over the edge is that my sister's boyfriend is a U.S. veteran who was injured while serving our country. It's incredibly ironic that someone can be 18 years old and old enough to enlist, risk their life, and serve the United States, but this same person gets treated like a criminal and harassed in a grocery store just to prove they're over 21 while standing next to family members buying groceries. And somehow the situation still got more ridiculous. I was standing by the doorway waiting for my family and I was also asked for ID, despite not even being part of the transaction. Every single person involved was clearly and obviously over 21. This didn't feel like someone responsibly following policy. It felt like a teller on a complete power trip who decided to make things difficult for absolutely no reason. I've worked in customer service and hospitality for over 8 years, including time in a grocery store, so I understand alcohol laws and regulations. Verifying the purchaser's age is standard practice. But demanding ID from every adult in the general vicinity, even someone standing by the door, is beyond excessive and completely unnecessary. The irony is we walked across the street to the gas station afterward and had zero issues. Blanton's managed to turn a simple grocery stop into an unnecessarily hostile experience. If this is how management chooses to treat customers, don't be surprised when people take their business elsewhere. read more

Small market but decent vegan selection! Quick stop leaving town to grab some snacks and I couldn't believe the vegan offerings. It isn't much to look at, and it's not the cleanest market, but I got food. I got snacks. That was a big deal!!! Definitely like knowing it's there for my next trip to Rainier!!! read more

In our rural community of Packwood, this Market has become a very pricey place to grocery shop.......a head of lettuce $4.99 just one item? I know I can drive to Morton or Chehalis in these Winter months.....but for people who live here permanently and on a fixed income, driving can be difficult. Its becoming painful for alot of folks here. Maybe some more sale prices? read more

This store clearly takes advantage of the fact that they are the only game in town. $12.99 for cereal $7.49 for a bag of Chex Mix. $9.99 for trail mix. $8.59 a pound for asparagus. Alcohol also very overpriced. Checked out the Quick Mart just to see how they compared and prices are about the same. If you're coming to see the beautiful Mount Rainier, I would suggest you stock up on food beforehand, or check out the Safeway in Randall. Haven't been there yet but it can't be worse than IGA prices. read more

My 55-year old husband was denied buying beer because his 54-year wife was with him and didn't have her ID with her. Evidently if you have minors with you, you cannot purchase alcohol. Generally I'm fine with but 2 50+ year old adults buying beer should be reasonable. read more

Always thankful for a grocery store when I'm visiting a town to do some hiking! Blanton's was maybe similar to a convenience store market, not huge but did have pretty stocked shelves, decent prices and what we needed at the moment - ice cream, cold brew, and some basic pharmacy supplies. There was self check out which made things go quickly. The employees were nice as well. read more

Multiple products on shelf past their date (dairy ..). I had surgery, so one arm in a sling, and I still had to do self checkout with a full cart of items, while containing a toddler. Prices are higher than other stores, but at least doesn't require a 30-60 minute drive out of Packwood. Staff is generally friendly enough, but I guess they've cut staff so much that they can't actually staff a register anymore. read more

This is the worst grocery store ever! There terrible customer service, foods out dated! We bought milk today and got home looked at the date and it expired today? Wow really, it's cuz the prices are super high and Ridiculous! Doubled price then other stores. They don't care about their locals just the money! If you're in Packwood and you need, well, pretty much anything, Blanton's is pretty much the only option. That said, it's actually not bad, and we ended up stopping in here a couple of times during a long weekend trip. Blanton's is a smallish supermarket with a bit of everything. It has a kind of old-fashioned, non-corporate feel that's sort of refreshing, right down to the large, kooky mural painted on the front wall outside the doors. In addition to a decent produce section and the usual grocery staples, they have some local stuff like fudge, Mt. Rainier postcards, and this weird bulk-bin cookie case. It literally looks like they open up boxes of these off-brand sugar cookies and dump them into big plastic cubbies. Should be exciting for kids who want to mix-n-match a cookie assortment, but I'd think they would get a little stale... Prices are a bit high, but what are you gonna do? You're stuck in the middle of nowhere, and the prices could actually be worse. If you're in Packwood or the area, it's a decent choice for whatever you forgot to bring. read more

Love this store because of friendly and helpful employees and always have sales going on. Organic produce, though sometimes already bad and apples seem like they have gone stale inside from sitting in the store so long, I always like to see local cherries or apricots whatever else they put out. Definitely have most things you need if you are a tourist. read more

Having family in Packwood, I visit there several times a year. I always make it a point to hit Blantons. Yes, the prices are a bit high, but that's the price of being off the beaten path. The employees are super friend friendly and courteous, and that makes the shopping enjoyable. For hikers and road trippers, there's a solid selection of easy and ready-made food items in one section as you walk in to the right. Fruit is very fresh. Family owned market with a pretty nice produce section with lots of local fruit. It had a decent beer section. We were just in town for the weekend and it fulfilled our needs. My checker was really friendly and I picked up a well done free map of the area at the check out. read more

Me and my family moved here in 2014 and started using Blanton's IGA for our grocery needs. They are cheaper than the other two stores in the area (Randle, Morton). From the moment you walk into the store you are greeted with a smile... This is a great small town market. read more

I like family owned grocery stores and like to support businesses where I travel, but this place makes it hard with their high prices. I would do more shopping here, but I just can't afford to so I plan ahead before I go to Packwood. read more
