I have attended several funerals at Blauvelt's over the past several years and the quality of the services have been phenomenal. The facility is very clean and inviting. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that they had a separate family room for kids and parents, where they can have a quiet place to go during services. Equipped with toys, games and a TV, I wish all funeral homes had this. Ron and his staff have always been friendly and helpful. They do a wonderful job making everyone feel welcomed and comforted during, what is usually, a difficult time in people's lives. I will be trusting Blauvelt's with my Funeral Services when the time comes, because I know that I will be in good hands. read more

We had been searching for a funeral home in advance of our elderly mother's expected passing. Since all of her children live on the west coast and Mom was in Horseheads, we needed someone we could trust to be there when the time came. So after talking with many funeral homes in the greater Elmira area, we are so thankful to have been referred to Ron LaFritz, owner of Blauvelt. Unlike the other local funeral homes that all have nearly the same incredibly over inflated price list, Ron charges a fair price and doesn't cut any corners with all of the same services included. He is prompt, professional and made the whole process very easy to complete Mom's cremation when the time came. We highly recommend Ron to anyone seeking a funeral home to entrust the care of their loved ones. He's the best! read more

I recently lost my dad, our family chose Blauvelts because we have always had a positive experience when we attended funerals of other friends and loved ones. Ron could not have been more professional or kind. From the moment he came to our home to get dad to the time it was to make sure his burial was completed. He and his staff treated us and our dad as if we were his own family. He made our dads funeral as memorable as it could possibly have been. read more

We recently attended a funeral here and was appalled at the service. The owner was rude and inconsiderate at best. He decided to try and discuss business with the grieving husband between the receiving line and services, which was completely insensitive and disruptive. The owner also gave misdirection to both the family and the attendees and we all ended up stumbling around a bit. Their marketing of caskets, flowers, and everything funeral related was in your face by having it all in the room in which one waits to get into the service they are there for. All in all it was infuriating when trying to comfort family and friends and mourn a loved one. I would never ever use this business and because it is a business that requires compassion, discretion, and some degree of guidance I can not stress enough that Blauvelt's is not the funeral home you want to use. read more

I recently attended a funeral at the Blauvelt Funeral Home. Upon entering the the funeral home there is a room to the left displaying all sorts of funeral items for sale. Below the item it read their price and our price. I found that to be insensitive and that sort of stuff should be done in a private room. There seemed to be a lack of direction as attendees milled about not knowing where and when to go to the viewing room. Knowing there would be a lot of attendees, the viewing room should have been cooled down instead of bordering on an uncomfortable temperature. Also, the large viewing room should have a microphone so attendees in the back could hear the speakers. At the conclusion of the viewing, attendees awaiting in their vehicles to follow the hearse to the graveyard, but the hearse had departed for the graveyard ahead of everyone. There were many from out of town. Later I was told that the owner stated a procession was for formal funerals. At the cemetery the wrong grave site was dug. I am not sure who is to blame on that but I do think the owner should have double questioned the call on that one, especially dealing with grieving a spouse. If family members were not there the next morning there would not have been enough people there to carry the casket to the correct site. (Two graveyard attendees and the owner and assistant). Although the owner appeared pleasant to me, several attendees asked me if he was angry about something. Also, the owner was insensitive to two family members over simple concerns: cards, slideshow and music. Funerals directors should be sensitive to family needs as well as a little flexible. It is a human business not a commodity business. With the above reasons I would not recommend Blauvelt Funeral Home. read more

I recently attended a funeral service at Blauvelt's and I was going to write many of the same comments that were written in the other reviews. Rather than being redundant, I will just say that the experience was very poor and I can not recommend them. Hopefully they will take these comments as constructive criticism and improve their service. read more
