Most of the staff are helpful and kind. That's why my visit this weekend (Sunday, 11/2) was such a surprise. An older female-presenting employee with long dark curly hair yelled at me and my young son when we tried to ask where the dry-erase markers were, while she chased after other customers who had already said they didn't need help. I said, "That was odd... but," and tried to ask my question, but she immediately cut me off and began raising her voice defensively. The escalation and her incendiary reaction was shocking in a customer service setting. I had to walk away, and another employee quickly helped us find what we needed. When I went to check out, she ended up on the register. I forfeited my loyalty points and asked my partner to handle the transaction because she'd made me uncomfortable. I told him what had transpired on the way home and he said she was curt and dismissive with him, too. This has always been a reliable neighborhood art store, but that kind of behavior makes it harder to come back. Nobody wants to deal with the loose cannon in the office aisle!

There's an abundance of arts and crafts supplies here, housed in two interconnected basement rooms, along with an impressive paper and picture frame selection (among other items) on the first floor. The atmosphere is one of a kind--more like an arts-and-crafts boutique curated by the owner, with items you won't easily find together elsewhere. Because of the sheer breadth, some categories (like fabrics, for example) have a smaller variety, which is just an observation, not a critique. Ribbons are unrivaled. If you don't have time to wander, ask--the best part of our experience was the owner, Carol, and the staff (thank you, Lilly). They are wonderfully kind, patient, and creative, offering thoughtful, gentle advice for your projects and genuinely care about their customers. Tip: There's a parking lot in the back or bus 87 drops you off right in front, literally. Highly recommended local business.

And funny enough, my mom used to go to this store when she was a little girl in the late 50s-60s to get Nancy Drew books. She said it was EXACTLY how she remembered as a kid. I was awe struck by everything this store had. I will definitely be making this place a regular stop for gifts for people and for fun. Forget going to places like Michaels. The gifts are so fun to explore and find tailored gifts for friends and family. I love seeing the new items they have. That said, the cost of some items can be pretty up there, but I have also found some great affordable gifts and cards here. They also do have a loyalty program that is connected with Barnes and Noble so that's a nice perk if you do decide to frequent here. Service has been super nice and friendly in my experience. There was zero recourse despite requests to seek management assistance. Horrific and illegal sales practices. Buyer beware!
