I love Blick! Everyone is usually very nice here - I am always asked if I need help when I arrive (which I usually do) and they are more than willing to take me around the store for the items I need. But, I recently experienced the worst employee yet and I have a feeling it was the manager. I'm not sure if her day was going badly but she took it out on us and another associate. She talked down to the associate while asking if she could work the register. Definitely not something that should be done in front of a waiting line of customers. This store was extremely helpful. I called last minute days before my wedding to help with a DIY sign. The sales associate Red was unbelievably helpful. He assisted me with adding a decal onto this mirror I had. I honestly wouldn't have been able to figure it out on my own. This store is huge! It's like a Walmart Superstore of art supplies. My wife loves to scrapbook so she's in heaven as soon as we walk in. I almost got lost the first time we went in. Recently, we purchased a frame for a poster we got and it was less than $20 for an 18" x 24". The prices for just about everything are really cheap but the quality is right up there with anything we've ever experienced. The store is laid out very nicely and everything is neat and organized. The employees are friendly and very knowledgeable. The floors and windows are nice and clean and even the checkout process is done well. All in all this place is as good as it gets! We recommend it for anyone that likes arts and crafts. read more

Very large art store with a warehouse feel. The salespeople aren't the most helpful, but you'll find cool things if you browse yourself. Wide variety of things, but not the most in-depth selection of items. E.g. you can find origami paper, but only 1 size, or you can find molding clay, but only a few colors. read more

Palmer Face Paint Pots! You can't get face paints that promise to be safe for kids at even most costume shops - plus they are pretty cheap. I also really love the huge selection of canvases! I get my paints here (yes, for real painting not on faces) too and end up saving a lot compared to other art stores. The staff are always super friendly and give you a hand in finding stuff - three cheers for Blick! read more

Blick is great. I can always find exactly what I need here. That's a huge plus. The only downside to this store is the service. I can rarely find help when I need it. And most of the time the staff seems completely uninterested. But, the inventory is plenty and the prices are reasonable. I come here for all of my creative needs. read more

I love Blick. It is one of those stores where I could probably drop $1000 in no time, then come back a week later and do the same thing (if I had $2000 to spend, that is). Unlike Michael's and some other arts and crafts chains, Blick is all about art, with an endless supply of pens, markers, paints, sketch pads, modeling clay, portfolio supplies, and so on. Between Blick and REI (which is in the same building), I could definitely spend my days in the old Sears Building if I had the time. read more

Woah, this place is pretty expensive... even though they always have some sort of sale, I'd try to search elsewhere first. The selection of supplies is great and you will most definitely find what you are looking for. I seriously can never find somebody to help me here so I always end up going up and down the aisles tons of times until I find what I need. When I have asked an associate for help, they seem annoyed. I keep returning because the store is in a convenient location and they seem to carry everything I need whenever I visit, although difficult to find. read more

This place is actually pretty lovely. I went in a couple weeks ago looking for embroidery floss and hoops and muslin and stuff, crafty things, and was pointed toward the back ("by the kids section"... my low craft-esteem took a hit there) and I found a bunch of awesome, brightly colored embroidery hoops, scissors, needles, and lots of other stuff... but not floss. I went up to the front and talked to somebody at the desk. They helped me out, looked around, discovered that they were all out of floss. They got my information and said they'd let me know when it came in. I got a call from them a few days later telling me that they have floss now. Awesome! So I felt like the customer service was actually pretty good and the selection, if you're not super picky, is pretty okay. I left with a couple canvases, needles, and scissors. Though they have a lot in stock (except wooden letters which I learned the hard way), it seems to be a bit pricey, especially when there is a staples that has many of the same things just around the corner. What I like about Blick is that it has pretty much everything you could ever want, and it has store brand art supplies that are cheap and seem to be pretty high quality. The only problem is that the people working there are among the least helpful I've ever encountered. Don't be fooled by their cool looks and artsy aprons, I'm pretty sure they are undergrad BU students in disguise, and not even art majors. read more

The student discount is fantastic and the art supplies are more than affordable. They have everything from kids art supplies to intense canvases and expensive brushes. I have never before walked into an art store and found everything I needed at one location. I love this place and can spend hours there without even trying. The staff will leave you alone if you want time to browse, but they are more than willing to offer advice if need be. I look forward to running out of paints or canvas so I can have an excuse to go here. They also have neat little knick-knacks and fun cardstock for any craft need you have. Overall I had a good experience customer service wise. Although I found it sketch that I had to leave my backpack at the front counter, I guess they have had a lot of theft. As far as selection goes I was really pleased. This place is really far superior to a Michaels or Hobby Lobby as far as quality goes. I was surprised by all the beautiful paper they had in stock which really made me want to start a new project. Definitely will be back soon. read more

This remains my "go to" place for canvasses and other supplies. Great selection and the staff is knowledgeable without being too "salesy ". (Maybe they already know how much money I spend LOL.) my only complaint - and this is an odd one - is the rude clientele! There is a subset of upper middle class, middle aged women that treat the staff (mostly college-age women themselves) like crap. What is up with that?? I'm assuming they were in college once? This is a great place to pick up those must-have art supplies. I'm giving 4 stars because it was in a bit of an awkward location. I guess I went to the "other" side of the building, and had to schlep through the garage. Great for students because the array of brand name products and student grade paint/canvas is very broad. It's like buying store brands in a supermarket. Update: I had some custom print work done here and it came out amazing. Totally worth the wait. They are busy, so give yourself a lot of lead time (2 weeks in this case because of the holidays and a big sale) but the results were so worth it. read more

What a disappointment and waste of a trip. Instead of ordering online, I decided to make a trip to the store and asked one of the employees (who turned out to be a manager) where to find gummed tape to stretch watercolor paper. And she showed me where the tapes were, but suggested that I use "Artist Tape" instead because that's what "everybody" uses, instead of the gummed tape -- which she said seemed like a lot of work. Um, so I'm stretching the watercolor paper now with "Artist Tape" and it totally does NOT stick any better than masking tape. And the cashiers were oblivious. I'd rather pay higher prices at my local shop where the staff have a clue, or order online exactly what I want than give this horrible store any business. read more

This is a big location. But the service today lacked common sense. How do you guys sell large sheets of cardboard. But not have large enough bags to hold these sheets? Moreover, it's raining out. I just spent money on cardboard just to walk out with it in the rain. Both sheets are now damaged from the rain. On top of that I had to bend it just to fit into a car. I get that you guys offer to cut pieces but you do it for a fee. Nothing is more frustrating on spending money on items just for them to get damaged in .2seconds. read more

just your average art store, i like it now that i realize it is walking distance from my office - big plus. in fact i just went there during lunch to get some oil bars. but here's the gravy they carry Montana brand spray paint WHICH if you happen to be into the whole graffiti or stencil or just aersonal painting thing is the best paint you will find. read more

Even before I took an art class and became a card-carrying art history geek, I loved this place. I went to school and BU and can't remember for the life of me why I first came here, probably with a friend who needed something. My first purchase was a set of six glass ornaments, which I decorated with diluted glue and some sparkly powder substance - the name of which I can't recall - when I was a sophomore in college. I came back sporadically after, just to browse around and buy random stuff. My senior year I took my first studio course and Blick became my home away from home: pencils, erasers, charcoal, paper, pastels...I bought the place out. I'm actually just now realizing that no one ever helps me, but I prefer it that way, I'd rather just wander around until I find what I need, that's how much I like this place. They have, well, pretty much everything as well as a cute and creative kids section in the back. read more

The prices on the website and the store are completely different which had led me to believe they had better prices than Utrecht, which is not true. I realized this after my purchase and found that they are not willing to give you the website price for the store items (~$50 difference in my case). I found this misleading and rather archaic. I took my first college art class last fall and was recommended by a friend its worth the drive from the suburbs to Boston to get my supplies at Blick and he even gave me a gift card for my birthday last summer. I walked in with a syllabus and was greeted at the front door and I felt a little overwhelmed looking at the size of the store. So an employee was happy to walk me around and pick out everything on my supply list with me. And I went back in November to restock what I ran out of and because we just began color theory and I was struggling with my color scale. An employee went to the trouble of opening up a color wheel and spent 20 minutes in the acrylics department with me trying to help me figure out which shades to buy and what mixes I would get out of them. I needed as close to primary colors as possible because it was a complimentary color scale on subtractive color theory. I ended up getting an A for the class and I really appreciate the customer service I was given by Blick. I'm going to try their Cambridge location tomorrow for my drawing 1 supply list. And it's a lot cheaper than the local art supply store we have out here. I pay for golden acrylic's around $6 at Blick depending on the shade and the same one sells for $15 near my house. read more

i know that this is a chain, but i had to give it a quick review. i have to confess that sometimes, especially on rainy days, i like to do crafts. and when i want to do crafts, blick is the best place for ideas. for me, this place is a little more organized and has more craft items than other local shops like utrecht. they have paint and canvases and all the standard things, but they also have paper scraps, kids books, stamps, and so many more things here. this place is definitely worth a stop, especially for those rainy days. read more

They then suggested that I sign up for card which knocked about 40% off my bill. Great place, they have everything and very good prices. read more

I just had the worst experience at Blick. I went to the Cambridge store looking for a 20x30 pre-made frame. They didn't have but asked if they could call the Fenway store and see if they have it. I said sure. They said they did have it. I then drove over to the Fenway store and it turns out they don't sell such frames. I would say their customer service is the opposite of helpful. Then leaving the parking lot I was charged for parking more than 10 mins. Don't worry I will never come back. read more
