I am a huge fan of rainbow, and they have an impressive amount of rainbow-array of options. I paid more for the matting and framing here than at another frame shop in SoMa, but the I think the value is fair for the amount of work going into them. Bethany and Will ... Phenomenal, Stunning, Absolute Rockstars. I never thought I'd be gobsmacked by framing and design, but here I am. I came to Bethany and Will at Underglass for urgent help in framing 12 complex items on an extremely tight deadline, ranging from movie props to oil paintings listed below: - Movie Guns and Holsters - Sword - Spell Dispenser and Gold Ingot - Set Map Design Pieces (3 piece set) - Book that was required to open - Various Oil Paintings Each of these pieces posed a unique creative and execution challenge, and Bethany and Will crossed all the T's and dotted every I, from the initial consultation to execution, timing, and communication throughout the entire process. It's not every day you frame a sword and movie prop guns, and they delivered on every aspect. Each piece was framed and matted with the certificate of authenticity and an image of the prop in use. Additionally, they protected each piece with museum glass and non-destructive materials, which was greatly appreciated. The movie prop guns and holster were the most complicated pieces. The holster was a large, bulky mass of leather, and the guns had wear and tear on each side, with a floral design. During the consultation, Bethany reviewed multiple configurations and design options--whether the guns should be above, below, or to the side of the holster. She suggested the most visually appealing arrangement, with the guns placed anti-parallel, and made excellent suggestions for the matting--velvet to match the theme. I was thoroughly impressed by her careful handling of the pieces and how she used framing to create something truly special. Next, the sword was an interesting piece. It was long and required special attention to how it would be arranged with the certificate and image. Will and Bethany quickly provided sensible input on the spacing of the prop in relation to the other pieces and helped select a frame that would meet the tight deadline. Similarly, the spell dispenser and gold ingot were framed using a strong metal holder, and they fit perfectly in my space. Finally, the map design pieces and various oil paintings were framed traditionally with simple frames and designs. These last pieces were cohesive with the entire collection. Again, I'd like to highlight this was all done flawlessly on an extremely tight deadline (like two weeks). I got my piece of art framed late last year and the service was impeccable. The piece is pretty large, something like 30" x 38", so it required a custom frame. They were great with recommendations on whether or not to use glass or acrylic, and the quality of the frame is amazing. I appreciated how they made recommendations with my financial goal in mind rather than trying to upsell me. The person there recommended the color gold for my frame and I am so glad he did. Shawn is an absolute delight to work with. From the moment I walked in he was warm and welcoming, and he was easy to talk to throughout the consultation. I came in with 8 pieces that I'm in love with and wanted to see elevated even further, and he quickly understood my passion and came up with a few different ideas as to how to make it happen. The approach we chose really brings out the impeccable work of the artist in a museum-quality frame. The work is admittedly expensive and a stretch for me financially, so I'm bringing the pieces in one at a time. Shawn was also thoughtful to offer less expensive options and ideas for how we could make the project work within my means, but I ended up sticking to our initial plan and it's been worth every dollar. We've finished about half the pieces but I'm already so happy and very confident that the rest will be equally amazing. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

These guys are wonderful. I took some very large paper pieces here, simply because they are near my house and the gallery I was hanging them at. They have a great eye for color and didn't scoff when I told them to find a nice framing solution for a low price. Considering the size of the pieces - about 3 x 4 feet - I knew even the lowest price would still be around $400 a piece. They actually gave me a discount (possibly a first-timer discount or an artist discount or a you're-spending-$800-here-discount, i don't know). I got a little worried when I wrote them the check and realized I hadn't done any research whatsover and they could totally botch the job and I could only blame myself for being a lazy dumbass in the research department. There was no need to be worried though because they did the job quickly and very well. They spent a lot of time with me because I am a picky b*tch about matting and framing colors. White? Eggshell? Somewhere-between-white-and-eggshell? Slightly closer to eggshell? They even called me when they were not totally sure about something. They invited me to come in and meet Micah the store manager who is a really wonderful person. They were kind enough to offer a discount which was greatly appreciated. I will say the experience and results are high quality and you pay for it. This service isn't cheap but I now recognize what they sell and how its harder to compare this with various internet options, its just a different product/service. Original review: This review is for the bad experience not the high price. Person at store was sassy and uncurtious. I think that me mentioning that I've bought frames off the internet really ticked them off. He waited until I was done unfolding and opening up my second print to say "we look at one at s time.....". When I talked at the price of $450 to frame a 36"x18" print they responded with this "well unlike the internet we don't make our frame from popsicle sticks" (this is a word-by-word) quote. It's fine thatt some business have an extremely profitable niche selling a product that is available elsewhere for a fraction of the cost, as a capitalist I praise them for that. I will forever be singing the praises of this wonderful small and local business!! (And, I don't do that very often!) I had a photo framed by them a few years ago, and unfortunately, it suffered a small crack on the lower left hand corner recently. I brought it in for an estimate, and mentioned that the framing had been done by them. Their eyes lit up, and they couldn't have been more gracious, and said "we'll take care of it. It won't be a complete refurbishing, but it should suffice." I was flabbergasted. When was the last time any business (or person) did something purely for the customer's benefit?? They said it might take a few weeks, and apologized for the length of time. I said, take your time, and I'll be pick it up whenever it's done. It took less than a week before they called me, and said it was ready!! Again, under promise, and over deliver. It looks great, and I couldn't be happier or more satisfied. I gave a 5-star review Underglass last year, and my recent experience there confirms that rating. This time, I visited their new store on Market, after the covid-19 delayed opening. They're carefully following all the safety protocols, and the new store is spacious and beautiful--the frame wall is amazing, with almost too many choices. I worked with Micah again to select the framing for my three pieces, and as usual, his suggestions were spot on, and the finished pieces looked wonderful. He's also great about recommending ways to get the same look with less expensive frames. Still not cheap, but definitely worth every penny for the artistry and craftsmanship. read more

He is an absolute pro. Three words......W - O - W !!! At the high praise of Yelp, I found the courage to take my little cup to be framed....yes, a cup....to be framed & the perfect experts to do it were Under Glass Custom Framing. Everyone has gooberish things they collect & I'm no different. I collect Illy Collector's Espresso Cups ( stop laughing ) & I had 1 in particular I wanted framed ( and NO, I don't have a display cabinet filled w/ cups ) This was an extra-special gem of a cup - a map of Paris - & they only made a few before they were yanked off the market - equate to extremely hard to find & N-O-T cheap when you do find one. Back story - Michelin owns the rights to all maps of Paris & Illy hadn't obtained permission before distribution so Michelin made Illy yank the Paris cups from their 1998 World Cups collection Under Glass spent probably a good 90 min talking w/ me about different options for my cup - backgrounds, mounting w/out impacting the integrity of the cup & suggested all kinds of combinations I never would have thought of. Had a general idea of what the final result would be but couldn't completely picture it but didn't really care - I had total confidence in their expertise by the time I walked out of there Ended up being an ultra-custom job b/c they had to create everything practically from scratch - build a box frame to hold my treasure, build a "invisible" mount to place the cup - just at the right angle so I can see the little Eiffel Tower, painted on the inside I absolutely love it & believe 100% that no one could have done a better job - and after only being in there once & not again for a month, the guy remembered me & immediately brought out my framed cup - impressive! It looks awesome & if I ever need framing again, Under Glass will be the place!!! read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE! This is my first time custom framing and we had two original watercolors that needed to be taken care of (Sorry, Aaron Bros...). Thanks to the Yelp deal, we found ourselves here.
