I started writing this before I even picked up the frame. We'd been in the market for a nice reasonably priced frame for our canvas since we returned from Japan. One thing that I came to realize is that frames are expensive. They cost a lot but you have to look at them as an investment. We were looking for something special that could help us capture and commemorate a great experience for us. Our picture was from the Fushimi Inari-Taisha shrine in Japan so we wanted a frame that complemented the picture and also accented our antiqued mirrors. We went to at least 5 different locations in pursuit of the right frame. It's an arduous task because you don't want to base your purchase on the price but you also want to find something that doesn't cost more than a night in a nice hotel. We saw decent frames that were off the shelf but the dimensions of our canvas wasn't considered a standard i.e. 12" x 16". After going to a few locations and taking pictures of our canvas with the samples in store I suggested we go to this place. I am writing this to thank Vanessa for providing the type of service that I feel should be a standard when purchasing frames. Not only did Sherman McNulty have a wider selection of frames than the other shops but Vanessa was the only person that let us take samples home to insure that we would be satisfied with the frame that we chose. She was great to work with, offered great suggestions, and really took the time to insure we were happy. She really has the energy and design sensibilities to help you put your picture and thoughts in the right frame of mind. It's ironic that we ended up getting our frame from here because I randomly stopped here last year on Valentines Day to inquire about a frame. I didn't know who Vanessa was but when we went to purchase our frame this time I remembered that she was there before with a different hair color. We commissioned a painting, a large one on canvas, from an artist in Texas and it was shipped to us a couple of weeks ago. We needed to have it stretched onto stretcher bars so we could hang it up. I called it does in different places and had quotes that ranged from a few hundred dollars all the way up to $2000. Somehow, this very professional high-end shop was among the lower prices I had. Once I showed up, it was very clear that Vanessa and her team knew exactly what they were doing, exceptionally professional, had a solid plan, and a relatively fast turnaround. I was treated as if I am bringing in a Picasso. This photo illustrates their attention to detail, carefully examining every inch of the painting. I'm finished on time, updated me along the way, and I managed to get it delivered using the Dolly app for practically nothing. They wrapped it in very nice plastic which kept it from getting scratched during delivery. I don't think it is possible to ever have a better store or a more attentive employee. My husband and I have been holding on to a cherished vintage movie poster and our college diplomas for quite a while, meaning to get them framed, but we were nervous about the process and cost. At a friend's suggestion, we popped into Sherman McNulty on Wilshire intending to browse and discuss options but, with Vanessa's assistance, we designed frames we loved and put our orders in on the spot. We were able to get real hands on and play around with the pieces, which was extremely cool and not what I was expecting. There was no pressure to buy, and with Vanessa's knowledge of the materials and our budget, we did not feel like we compromised at all. The framing is gorgeous and was ready within the window provided - approx 2 or 3 weeks for the diplomas, and 5 to 6 weeks for the poster (it was a special order with protective glass and linen backing so that takes a bit longer than usual). I would definitely recommend Sherman McNulty to anyone looking to get something framed or just discuss their options. Vanessa is a pleasure to chat with and really know her stuff. read more

The work done here is EXCELLENT. It's really good quality and done with care and respect to the piece. When you go here, you pay a lot for the assurance that your piece will get the respect and quality it deserves. There is a lot of great things to say about Sherman McNulty. My gripe about this place is less so the price (which is high), but moreso how and why they price things the way they do. Here's an example: I had two pieces, roughly 11x17" and 7x11". I'm quoted a price of about $245/per piece. I'm confused as to why something literally 1/3 of the size of another is the exact same price. It's explained to me that when they source the frame material, they pay a minimum of 40" worth of material per order. So basically even though there will be literally feet of leftover material, that expense is passed onto me, the consumer, and not to Sherman McNulty. That is not a business model that makes me come running back, despite how good of work they do. The front-of-house service is hit and miss, as well. As some employees are far better than others - in attitude, helpfulness, knowledge, and creativity. All are good, but some are clearly better. If you have a piece that you really want done well, this is your spot. But you aren't privy to some secret gem of a frame spot - you're paying for the stuff you're getting. read more

Just had two photos custom framed here and they came out great! I've been to a few other frame shops, but they were all so boring and cheesy compared to this shop. They had a huge selection of frames to choose from. Rachel and Kim helped me pick out a glossy/off white Jonathan Adler frame for my large photo of Jones Beach, New York. One thing is to get a photo or painting framed, another is for it to look 100% better than when you brought it in! I had a canvas photo that I needed to put onto a board and this was the cheapest place suprisingly. They had a yelp deal at the time and overall they did a very nice job. They have a large selection of frames which are pretty expensive but I assume that's just how framing stores are. The staff here are very helpful, they try to work with your budget and give you an honest opinion. They kept an open line of communication for my order and even kept my frame for almost a week after it was ready since I didn't have time to pick it up immediately. I have been meaning to write a review for Sherman McNulty for months! I had a print with odd dimensions, so it was already going to be an expensive framing project. I had priced out a few other places, including Aaron Brothers (which came in about $200 cheaper), but they did not instill confidence that they knew what they were doing. I was also not impressed with their frame offerings. The professional staff at Sherman McNulty really knows what they are doing when it comes to art framing. Their staff helped me choose the perfect frame and matte for my art. The manager even made different product suggestions to help lower the cost (but not impact the quality or look). In addition, I used my Yelp deal to help cut down the cost. Great experience. In the end, I was super pleased with my framed art.
