This experience happened in November but I was so upset that I wanted to wait to calm down before reviewing. My grandmother passed and Bliley's handled the viewing and transfer to Amelia Veterans Cemetery for the service. I ordered a large standing heart to be displayed at her viewing on their site. When I arrived to the viewing it was not there and I spoke with a young man who seemed unconcerned who suggested I call the florist. I explained that I did not know who the florist was as I had ordered through them. He went to an office and wrote down the phone number of a local florist and said I should call them in the morning. I explained to him that the funeral service was in the morning. All of this concerned me that he seemed to be unaware of as he was standing in front of the room for her viewing where all of this was posted. I was very upset that one side of her casket was bare as the other standing arrangement my cousin ordered was there but my matching one was missing for the viewing but the young man assured me that the florist could get it to the service in the morning. Somehow I knew this was impossible if I was calling them when they opened barely an hour before her funeral. But I still called in the morning and surprise, the florist did not have the order and could not help me. I called Bliley's and spoke with someone and explained what had happened again- they were unaware of the issue from the night before so it was like starting from scratch. They then directed me to an outside company that manages their Tribute Wall and said they would call me back. I contacted the other company who acknowledged that they had taken the payment the week prior but that at this point it was too late to send the arrangement to the funeral. You don't say! They said "I guess we will issue you a refund". I said I guess you'd better. I would like to point out that I was calm and courteous during each of these interactions and only during the viewing when I noticed the missing arrangement was I slightly teary eyed because it was the viewing after all. But not ONCE did anyone from Bliley's or their payment processor apologize or say anything resembling an I'm sorry for ruining your memory of your grandmother's service. Not only did they not apologize, Bliley's staff never called me back or even attempted to make the situation right and have the flowers at the service. For something as important as a memorial service or viewing I won't ever recommend a business that ignores issues and doesn't even try to rectify them. Oh I almost forgot! Because they processed my refund they removed the post that I made when I ordered the arraignment on their Tribute Wall from my kids to their great grandmother. read more

Mr. Beasley was excellent and very professional. His follow-ups were always perfectly timed and he definitely did not sell like a used car salesman. The staff always seem to act with care, yet they never seemed to act "fake" or with false compassion. I was saddened with the services rendered by Bliley's. They are no longer the "go to" funeral home in Richmond. I called upon them about 10 hours after the passing of my father because their staff neglected to contact me. Whomever I spoke with said that all the entire staff was busy doing other things and they did not have time for me at this time. I asked when I may expect a return telephone call because we had to arrange to get out of town family member and friends to Richmond for the memorials. The person I spoke with said they didn't know, but someone would get back with me soon. My definition of soon and theirs are different. I was expecting a call back within about an hour or two, at the maximum. They finally called me back 10 hours after that, almost a full 24 hours after the death! When a director was finally able to speak with me, we began to discuss times for the ceremony. I asked to have the ceremony at a specific time at their facility. The man was aloof and told me that another family "just scheduled their service for that time" and that I had to select another time. We tried to but the cemetery could not serve us at that time, which is certainly not the fault of Bliley's. After bantering back and forth, my family and I decided to call a time out to reassess our options. We contacted another home in the area that could accommodate our wishes (and even assisted with arranging travel itineraries for our out of town guests - something that we did not expect!) Our family has been served by Bliley's previously, but I can no longer rely on them. I felt as if my family was not valued, especially when expecting to pay $15,000 to bury a loved one. As a sidenote, while looking at the obituaries, we noticed that the customer that had previously selected the service time at their chapel that prohibited us from having the initially desired service time, their loved one died ONE DAY AFTER my father died. So, their staff spoke with that customer before they spoke with me even though my father died first. What kind of attention is that? I couldn't even "take a number". read more

My mom passed away this month and my mom wanted to be cremated at this location. I lived in another state so I didn't know what was going on with my mother. When I got in town, I called the number to this location and asked if my mothers remains were there, the person I talked to said yes. I say up a appointment and was told it would be to view the body and to pay for cremation. With the little time that I had here I told them I needed to view her that day. The man who was assisting us said Sorry miss her mom is at another location. No body told any of my family this when they were picking her up nor did anyone say something on the phone when I called and asked. blileys charges a arm and a leg to do anything at this place of business and I only wanted the simple cremation. We had to go with another place that was cheaper. blileys wanted us to pay for a box to have her cremated in, there was other fees as we'll. Urns are 300 and above. For them transporting my moms body from her home to the Blileys I paid 375. read more

Nobody really wants to plan a funeral, least of all during the COVID pandemic of 2020. And you need to know up front that funerals are super, super expensive no matter where you go, so try your best to put that aside. Beyond that, all anybody really wants is for someone to take excellent care of them and their loved ones during a more than difficult event, especially when the circumstances of the event changes all rules associated with celebrating a loved one's life and being comforted by family and friends. Colin at Blileys Chippenham is one of the nicest, calming, comforting human beings I have ever had the opportunity to meet. From the first phone call, the awkward mask-wearing meeting, the 10 people only-spaced 6 feet apart funeral service, to the sweet Mother's Day text message almost 3 weeks later, Colin was the best.
