I have often found myself the victim of over-zealous hairdressers who want to style me. On many occasions I have left the hairdresser with a haircut that looks amazing but I will be completely incapable of recreating it at home. The thing I hate the most though is straighteners. I have pretty straight hair as it is and when the power of straighteners is added to it the ends look like they could split someone's throat. As a result, I parted company with my old hairdresser when they openly disregarded my request to not have my hair straightened. With a apprehensive heart, therefore, I went in search of a new hairdresser and ended up with Darren at Mega City One. What a joy. He complimented the condition of my hair (most pleasing), paid attention and did exactly what I wanted. No straighteners, no hair spray, no nothing. On subsequent occasions, if he is at all unsure about what I mean, he shows a picture of what he is thinking so there are no unfortunate surprises when it comes to the mirror moment. And only 25.50, which to be fair I still consider a lot for a haircut, although I accept that my thoughts are out of kilter with the rest of world and 25.50 is actually pretty cheap. I even managed to persuade the boyfriend to give it a go, and naturally, he is frightened of getting his hair cut. Something to do with scissors nearby his face. The first time I had to go with him, but now he is happy to go on his own and as a result, now looks presentable for 78% of the year. Hurray!!

Bloom bloom has just recently moved a few doors down into bigger premises and the the inside has been very professionally done. There are bare brick walls alongside clean crips lines and the atmosphere is very relaxed indeed. As this was my first visit I had to fill out a health card. The staff are very warm and I felt like I was very well taken care of. I was told by Vicky, who was the owner, that they don't usually offer massages to male clients but they do make exception for partners or close friends of people who already use the beauticians. I was to be given my massage by Faye and she made me feel very relaxed and there was a very un-rushed feel to the whole experience. I explained that I had never had a massage before and was a little bit nervous as I didn't know what to expect. Faye was very reassuring and put me at ease. The massage was brilliant. The massage table was lovely and warm. I never knew that a massage was such a complicated thing! The time flew by and before I knew it, it was finished. I had asked for a sports massage as I go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week and I felt that I would benefit from a thorough massage. After the massage it was suggested that I hang around, drink some water and not rush off as some people can feel a bit woozy or spaced out. This was the case with me and I was glad I didn't rush off. The staff are really friendly and talkative. I know that this is a bit of a feminine environment but I was made to feel very welcome indeed. So after a glass of cool water and a long conversation I headed off home. Will I be back? Definitely. I think it is time that I started to treat myself a little from time to time. One of the first things I shall do is book myself in for another treatment here.

Had my legs waxed first, nice and hygienic salon with clean paper on bed and a towel to cover, put heater on when I said it was cold. Although she didn't check if any hairs had been missed and had patches of wax on my legs and feet, so my socks stuck which was visible during shellac on toes. The shellac hands and feet were nice even though there was no exfoliation included, good choice of colours and very neat and thorough application. The only part I disliked was the cuticle removal on fingers as it hurt and left them looking a bit rough and raggedy. Needs to be more gentle even if cuticle are 'overgrown'. I got a voucher for 15% off next time, I would visit again if I could afford it. I would recommend it to a friend and anyone in the area looking for a local friendly salon with good standard of services.

I did really want a tan so I stayed. I asked for a very light tan. I could not have been clearer. She took all of ten mins if that. She wanted me out of there. No wipes for my finger and toe nails. Or the stuff that protects them. Didn't stand me in front of a fan to dry off. She had done both those things last time. I asked if it was going to stain my nails, oh no that'll wash off she flippantly said. (Well it took a good half hour working on them when I got home to get it off my nails).When she was done, I looked in a mirror and looked slightly worried. I was DARK! She asked if I didn't like it. Not if it stays this colour, that's really dark I replied. It's just a guide colour. That will come off and you'll be much lighter she told me. I went with my gut and washed it all off-TWICE. That was 2 & 1/2 hours after. She told me to wait at least 4 hours or even sleep first!!!! This morning I am still slightly too dark. Hopefully by tomorrow at the wedding I am bridesmaid at I will have the very light covering I first asked for. She very very clearly could not be bothered-wanted to get herself home. Wanted me in and out quickly. I will NEVER return. Terrible service, no manners. Didn't even listen to ME the paying customer. Horrible place and to be avoided if you care about your treatments.

The stylist talks me through want I want to have done and then one of the juniors washes my hair and gives me a scalp massage in the process, which is always my favourite part of getting my hair cut. I was very pleased with the cut and blow dry and it was reasonably priced. Overall it was a very pleasant experience, the salon is clean and the décor simple and bright. Nor is double-booking customers and ripping them off. I did see the much advertised tanks of Garra Rufa fish, they were very small (both the tanks and the fish!) and at £20 for 30mins I don't think I'll bother as it would take days for those few tiny fish to have any effect!!! I have had the fish treatment numerous times (the water had never been green!!) I have also had the groupon facial and so have my friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed it, the massage was wonderful and the girls only left the room once for water and that was while the mask was setting which is not a problem! The room looked fine, certainly not like a brothel or building site! It was very relaxing and the door wasn't open and I didnt feel cold! I dont know if these comments previous were with the girls who work there currently or not but I find all the girls to be the most professional I have come across and very down to earth! I love the fact that it is not an intimidating salon and they dont push any sales on you. I just want to finish by saying that the comments of the owner are bang out of order about her looking untidy, she was pregnant, overworked and didnt go onto maternity leave until recently. Either you ladies dont know what it is like to be pregnant or expecting her to be miracle woman!
