I made an appointment two weeks in advance to meet with lisa for a lactation consult specifically requesting that we spend the time helping me figure out pumping as I have three pumps and none of them have worked for me. Two days before the meeting she canceled due to a stomach flu, but then volunteered to do a virtual meeting instead, which is already very confusing because how are you going to do a virtual consult when you have a stomach flu...against my better judgment, I rescheduled and gave her the benefit of the doubt. Upon arriving to her office for my rescheduled appointment, she escorted me to a room and immediately kicks off her shoes where her bare feet are hanging out before we even really exchange names. Unprofessional, but I figured a lot of people in this field are a bit hippy dippy so again I put my better judgment aside. She begins to my intake forms, and things seem normal at first until she decides to start bringing a lot of polarizing subjects into conversation. I did not come to discuss politics, circumcision, maternity leave that other countries had, or the use of formula. I had already explained to her via the form I submitted online that I was having no issues with breast-feeding and I was truly only there to get help with my pump. Lisa was very adamant that all people should nurse for 4 years and the 1 year goal I had was not enough, and that all women make breastmilk and anyone that tells you that they can't is actually uneducated or lying, then she encouraged me to quit my job and bragged about how she quit hers and didn't tell her husband (they're divorced now... shocker). She continued on by telling me how circumcision is mutilation, formula is poison and a bunch of other really callous remarks. While she didn't offend me, I could see a lot of her opinions really upsetting those who have struggle with breast-feeding or have made certain decisions regarding the care of their own child. Not only was she horribly unprofessional, but she straight up was unhelpful. Probably what was most insane was the fact that she told me that my pediatrician and the home nurse that I have been working with were both wrong with the information they gave me... These are people who did tons of schooling in their chosen field, and whom I trusted and had a good experience with! But no , I should trust the crockpot that told me that gorillas and monkeys are closest living relatives and they breast-feed for four years and have a baby attached to them and so should I!!! The last five minutes of my meeting she took a look at my bag of pumping parts that I brought and told me that the pump that I have "sucks" and to just get a new one. I don't know if she has looked at the price of pumps lately but they're around $200 so suggesting I simply get a new one without trying to help me use one of the three that I already have received from insurance was super bizarre. She also spent part of the meeting rambling on about how my son definitely has a tongue tie when she has never met him and he didn't come to the meeting with me. Her attitude was not only highly illogical but also horrible for business. I implore anyone looking for a lactation consultant to continue looking and skip out on meeting with Lisa. Save your time and your sanity. The cherry on top was when I texted her and expressed my frustration and then she tried to gaslight me. That was really the real nail in the coffin that led me to leaving this review. It's one thing to be bad at your job but you're not going to act like you helped me when you spent less than five minutes actually discussing pumping. I was so annoyed that I drove 30 minutes, packed up my pump parts and was met with one insane opinion after the next. How this woman has gotten any positive reviews is an utter shock to me. read more
