Don't bring pallet wood because of the nails. Sometimes they don't allow open flames including your propane stove. That just depends on wildfire risk obviously. Don't feed the deer for safety reasons. The rangers are so friendly and cool. The last time we were there he offered us firewood for a reasonable price since all we had were pallets. Great price for great wood. I almost don't want to share this information just because it's such a gem of a campsite. We don't usually have other campers around us. Should I delete this? LOL

The ride is for about 37 miles so it takes about 4 to 6 hours on your ATV It's simply breathtaking. There is nothing bad about this trail. Not hard by any means. Several places also you can stop to eat and take several pictures. It is way cooler up there do take a lite jacket with you as well. Simply just a beautiful day to spend out on nature with your family .

Beautifully challenging hike with memorial placards along the way honoring each firefighter whose…read morelife was taken. We started our hike early in the morning and I would definitely recommend not starting late morning/early afternoon as it will take you some time if you stop to read all the placards and take the journey trail down to the actual memorial site where the firefighters lost their lives. Bring lots of water and sunscreen and be prepared for a 5+ hour trip in and out. The trail is well maintained and groomed, but it is still challenging and long, but well worth the effort. Parking is also very limited so check ahead to see if shuttles are running from the town of Yarnell. Once you get to the starting point there are two large porta potties that are also meticulously clean.

DIAMONDS: The trail is green, filled with otherworldly volcanic rock formations, and offers abundant scenic contrast in terms of vegetation and desert landscapes. The trail is easy to access in any type of vehicle, and I would classify it as a Class 2 trail. During my hike, I encountered two mountain bikers on the actual loop and roughly 10 people on the access trail as I was exiting and walking back towards the trailhead. AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: There are no facilities such as restrooms, shade pavilions, or water fountains at the trailhead or anywhere along the trail. The parking area is also small and rather sparse, which could be problematic on a busy day.

I would say anyone with a 4WD vehicle could easily handle the well-manicured dirt roads. The drive took us about 45 minutes with LOTS of stops to take photos, walk around, and enjoy the desert landscapes. It was very peaceful and quiet, and we only passed one other vehicle the entire time we were driving! It's free, clean, and fun, and you can't ask for more than that! The landscape is (obviously) dry desert, with pretty rocks and flora and fauna. We saw plenty of lizards, birds, chipmunk looking things, and a couple of snakes, so be alert and respect the wildlife! Don't pick anything and don't harrass anything. We drove in early July, when the temperatures were over 110. We brought plenty of water "just in case," and there are several areas where you can wander off on foot (but again, watch for snakes)! I was impressed with how clean it was along the Pass, I did not see one piece of trash anywhere! The roads are graded but the sand gets a bit deep in a few places, where we slid a little while driving. It was fun because the road is very wide with plenty of room. At one end of the Pass, there's an area with well preserved petroglyphs. It does require a bit of a hike which isn't that far distance-wise, but it's in deep sand that's difficult to walk through (especially when the temps are high). I made it maybe a third of the way and turned back. I'll try again in the fall or winter. There's a hole-in-the-ground toilet facility by the petroglyphs if you need it. I am not outdoorsy in the least, but I had a really fun time riding along on this drive. If you're traveling between Las Vegas and Laughlin, it's a fun little "cut through" to get through the desert. Highly recommended.

We should've stopped to see the petroglyphs, that would've been the highlight on this frustrating journey. There was one chubby bush with hardly any Christmas decorations probably about halfway into the drive. Not worth the long road trip. The weather was perfect, but I sure wouldn't do it again.

There is some boating/kayaking allowed. Boat ramps, some playground equipment, picnic tables. It costs to get in, but you can buy an annual pass which gets you into other parks in the area.
