Went here last minute and totally regret it I made an appointment at the Blo Lounge after my primary salon (Moxie Montclair, great place), was full of appointments for the day. I arrived a bit early to my appointment and they would not take me even though I saw some ladies standing around who looked like they were free -- otherwise, the actual people who worked there were kind Hair: the woman who did my hair put SO MUCH hairspray in my hair, it was unbearable to touch. I showed her the picture of what I wanted and she tried to do it, but it ended up not working out at all. I ended up having my friend redo my hair. Price: $75 for what I got was EXTREMELY overpriced. It was a blowout with some styling/curling. I go to a high quality salon like Moxie in Montclair and this would have been maybe 30 dollars less and the quality would have been 100% better. Overall, I would have rather gone to Supercuts for a blowout then have had my friends who don't work at a salon, style my hair. read more

If there was an option for zero stars, blo lounge would get it. BEWARE!!!! It's very disappointing to say that blo lounge took full advantage of myself, the bride and fellow bridesmaids last weekend. Basically, they overcharged each girl with no rhyme or reason and claimed that we were getting a "wedding special". I love how when you attach the word wedding to anything, the price automatically doubles! Here's how it went down for me: I asked for the look book and I was denied. It's clear on their price list that a blow out including hair wash and hot tools is $35. a braid is $15. When it was time to do my hair, I asked to have it washed and they refused. They said the curl will hold better without a wash (umm ok sure but I go to other blow dry bars all the time and they don't refuse a wash and my curls always come out fine). She spent about 20 mins curling my hair and doing the side braid. It fell out twice during the course of the day but they did try to fix it for me. I was thinking in my head: Ok so it's $35 for the wash, blow out and hot tools but since I didn't have the wash or blow out it's probably like $25. Braid is $15 so total $40. When it was time to pay she said $65 and i was so surprised. She said it was a "wedding special". I asked to see the price list showing the wedding special pricing and she said she didn't have it. I still don't get how that's a "special.". I challenged her on it but she stuck to her guns that it was $65 and it wasn't the time to argue. My friend was getting married and I didn't want to spoil her day. A couple of days later, after the bride found out how the blo lounge screwed each of her bridesmaids, she called and asked to speak to the owner. Long story short, they are not interested in making the situation right and keeping a good reputation. Sadly, they don't appreciate their customers and aren't interested in repeat business. Sorry Blo Lounge but if you are going to overcharge your clients, I can't imagine you staying in business much longer. Karma. read more

Unless you want to go home and redo your blow out before an event do not come to this blow out bar. I will give 2 stars only because I showed up without an appointment midweek and they were able to take me right away. However, quickly after my shampoo began I realized I would have been better off if they didn't have time for me. The "stylist" that did my hair basically ripped my hair out while shampooing- so rough! never asked about water temperature or how I part my hair. She completed the blow out in 10 minutes with seemed like little to no effort. There's no mirrors in front of you so you can't tell if you like it or not. When it was complete she didn't ask how I felt about it. I should have said something but I was so upset at this point that I would have to go home and totally reblowdry my hair in a rush. If your in need of a blow dry before a special event drive a couple miles down the road to morristowns blow out bar. read more

They just lost my business...I was running five minutes late due to traffic. When I called, the receptionist out me on hold and then someone came on the line to tell me that they can no longer accommodate me. I explained I just need a few curls and it should take about 15 minutes, plenty of time for the stylists other appointment. The reply was "sorry". So, I went straight to Dieci and they took care of me. You get what you pay for... Don't care if I will lose my package that I purchased...I will not return to this "salon", or ever refer anyone again. It's not a huge loss, since I have not had great (smooth) blow outs there, anyway. read more

FYI: Amanda is no longer with Blo Lounge. Still love the space and the convenience, but the last blow-out I received her was an unmitigated disaster. Essentially, the stylist I had last time interpreted beach waves (a lookbook selection) far differently than Amanda did, so my hair was a frizzy mess and I had to go home and wash it immediately. Not fun, but they didn't charge me, which I completely appreciated. One of the problems is that there are no mirrors near the chairs, so you can't see your hair as it's being done. This didn't initially bother me because I'm spoiled by the Dry Bar, where I mai tai in Murray HIll is the same as a Mai Tai in Flat Iron or Midtown or even Los Angeles! I would give them another try, but would request a hand mirror so that I could communicate throughout with the stylist. Good luck and happy blow outs! The best blow outs I have ever gotten anywhere. Donatella is way better than anyone at dry bar or any blow out salon here, the city and even cali. And she is so fast it's crazy. I have thick naturally curly long hair and she can wash it twice, condition, brush and blow it super straight in under 40 mins. The team at the salon are all super nice , professional and talented. I have been coming here for several years now and have never been disappointed. I can't say the same for dry bar or any other salon. And the salon is super cute as well. The ladies of Blo Lounge are the BEST. read more

Pleasantly surprised when they had a last minute opening on Mother's Day morning. Dieci was closed and never gave me notification as I had a standing appt every Sunday. Not a memorable experience. The receptionist was friendly but that was where it ended. The blow out was mediocre and the stylist had no interest in talking. There are also mirrors in front of you during the blow out so you have no clue how it is coming along...very strange. read more

Overcharged when they told us we were getting a "group deal" when really the deal is on their website for everyone. Light curls actually means blow drying hair straight and saying there's nothing else that can be done unless a curling iron is used and that will be $45 instead of $35. All of us were disappointed and it was VERY obvious they did a crappy job on our hair initially in order to scheme more money out of us. There was a separate excuse for each of us- mine was that I have "heavy hair" yet every other salon I've ever been to gives me wavy curls every time I get a hair cut and don't have to specifically ask for it styled. Had a great experience. Called a few weeks in advanced to get the last appointment for New Year's Eve. Upon arrival my coat was checked and I was offered a refreshment. I waited no more than five minutes for the stylist to call my name, greet me, and show me to the sink. The sink chairs are recliners where you put your feet up which is a nice touch. Marika asked me how I wanted my hair and I explained to her I like a lot of volume and liked my hair flipped out. marika is personable and professional and knew exactly how to accommodate me. After talking for a while I figured out she is the owner. Highly recommend this place! read more

I hate to do this because my first experience of the two was fine, but the below experience I am about to provide details for was my worst blow dry bar experience to-date (and I go for blowouts a lot). Below are the reasons that this blowout was so terrible: -My hair was a rats nest that I couldn't rake my fingers through... Not sure if it was the rushing through my service or the strong hold hairspray sprayed all throughout my hair (where was the flexible hold hairspray?!?) -My clip in extensions were put in halfway down my head, and were very loose and crooked (leaving my hair looking different lengths, but also when you looked at where they were placed, they were totally crooked)... they were also put in at the very top of my head, so you could feel and see them, and the hair was not teased where they were put in NOT secure at all -Appointment was booked for an hour, but took a record breaking time of 30 minutes...there is a reason hair extension appointments with blow drys are booked for an hour at least -The actual curling of my hair and putting it up into clips was maybe 15 minutes... then I sat for a few with my hair pinned up, and then it was released down, when it actuality it definitely could've used another round of a curling iron being used on my hair -My hair is thin and straight, and a stylist always knows to curl my hair in smaller sections, but this wasn't the case this time around -The pieces I took out of my hair when I had to completely redo it myself were pin straight -I was at a wedding that evening with a few girls who also went here and while their experiences weren't 100% the same, they were similar in the sense that they also felt rushed... -While I appreciate the management's apology on the phone, for them to blame it on me to say that there was nothing they could do at this point and that I should have said something in person was sort of just infuriating since I was pretty uncomfortable in the salon to have said something to the stylist when I felt rushed from the minute I got in there -Expensive (and I live in NYC where things are typically a lot more, but not in this case....) read more

Just went to see Amanda at Blo Lounge and it was fabulous. I feel like a new person. I went with there signature blow, volume with a wavy/curl bc my hair won't actually take a curl. She styled my hair with its condition in mind and didnt use super high heat. The interior is decorated in a fun trendy motif. read more

After my experience and then unfortunately reading the reviews here too late, I'd love to know how this place is still up and running! What hair salon doesn't have mirrors?...one that has really crappy hair stylists that can't even do a blowout correctly. I've gone to tons of other salons, asked for nothing but a cut and dry (no styling at all) and they ALWAYS style/brush it out extremely nice with loose curls. This place claimed my hair was too thick to do anything except dry it straight. All I went in there for was a blowout before attending a wedding, but next time I will sleep on my hair so it flattens out and gets matted and I will save $45+ for the same look. If I'm asking you to do loose curls with a brush, no curling iron, don't tell me it can't be done when you're supposed to be a professional, i'm paying for the service (too much $$ in my opinion), and then you expect a tip? Nope. Mind you, this is the "$38 blo dry" which lists hot tools. If I was the owner of this place, I would seriously reconsider everything...my unknowledgable staff and their bad attitudes, the prices of made up "specials", and then tricking people into paying more because what they originally thought they were purchasing, was not at all what they get. Hike up the price while customers are already in your chair and you won't give them a choice. Awesome way to do business. Ladies, don't waste your time or money. read more

Maybe I'm just spoiled because my hair stylist in Florida is the best I've ever encountered, but I was less than impressed with my blow out here. When my FL guy does it, it lasts through the crazy heat and humidity. It's awesome. So, I asked for my hair to be blow out straight as it was when I came in. After a nice shampoo including a great head massage, my hair was blown out. It was inconvenient that I was unable to view my hair in a mirror as she was doing it because then, perhaps, I could have given further direction. She never used a flat iron on my hair as I would've hoped, and before I knew it she was putting product in it, so I couldn't ask her to after. As soon as I walked outside my hair was frizzing. I had to flat iron the whole thing when I got home. I was very disappointed in the result. I'll stick to Anthony Garubo in Maplewood for my blowouts when I'm in Jersey from now on. read more

Not happy at all with my experience here for several reasons. I went here to get my hair done for prom which turned out to be a big mistake. The stylist didn't know what she was doing. I didn't ask for anything complicated, just some simple waves. I guess this was just too complicated for her. First, I didn't get a blowout before the styling. She said I didn't need one which makes no sense because anyone, especially a hairstylist, knows just how wonderful a blowout makes one's hair look. She then proceeded with the curling iron and so much hairspray that my eyes burned and I was choking. I get my hair done frequently and I've never seen a "stylist" use so much problem. Another issue I have is that there are no mirrors at any of the stations so you can't see what's being doing. I don't like that at all and I think it's very unprofessional. I was so disappointed when she was done. Once I walked over to the mirror I was extremely unhappy with what I saw. I asked for waves and got super tight curls, exactly what I did NOT want. I had to go home and fix it myself which is just not exceptable. Let's just say no tip and I didn't feel bad at all - she walked away without so much as a goodbye. I discourage anyone from coming here. I paid $35 for someone to just awfully curl my hair when it's the same price for the blowout and styling. Tell me how this makes sense? Go to a real salon. I should've just went to Anthony Garubo in Maplewood because they know what they are doing. I repeat DO NOT GO HERE!!! I just wish I didn't have to experience this on such a busy and important day for me. read more
