I reached out to Maurice Joffee Tax Services (MJTS) given my CPA of the past thirty years+ retired. I found MJTS through a google search and while somewhat apprehensive going to a CPA that was not recommended to me personally, the online reviews were very good and I found them compelling enough to give MJTS a call. I was not at all disappointed. From my initial call I found the staff at MJTS informative, responsive and courteous; the very opposite of my experience trying to find other CPAs in Los Angeles and at least getting them to return my initial calls. As I worked through my return with MJTS, we corresponded via e-mail which was great as I could answer and address their questions when convenient for me and they always remained professional, friendly and prompt in their responses. Needless to say, I will be back next year and the year after that as I believe I have found an excellent replacement for my previous CPA service. read more

Very nice friendly people but incompetent with regard to doing our taxes. I had several problems with them, mostly related to delays in getting my refund due to them filling out the wrong name and social security number on the return. I had to call them several times and the excuses they gave me were always different; tax office is closed, social security number mismatch, health form 1095A wasn't included, form 8379 wasn't included, etc. I figure that's why I go to a $400 specialist rather than do it myself. I don't know all the ins and outs of taxes. After a few emails they straight up lied to me and said "my refund would be released soon". The Federal never came. 7 months later it still hasn't come. I tried to resolve things with them by asking via email for a $75 refund figuring that was fair. After all, I sent an email to Andrea who is very nice but has an out of office response saying 3-5 business days for a reply. My last tax preparer would call me back same day. They blamed me for not filling out my wife's intake for correctly and said they wouldn't refund even a fraction of what I paid. Apparently $75 was too expensive for them to fix a customer service issue that they admitted was partially their fault. They offered a discount on a future tax return but that just left a bad taste in my mouth. The other thing that bothered me was the pressure to give a yelp / google review after our initial meeting before any problems had a chance to show themselves. And every email I get from them says to leave a review so OK. Here it is. read more

What I received was incomplete -- specifically, the depreciation schedules were missing, which are essential for anyone with rental properties or business assets. I followed up multiple times to request the missing schedules, but my emails went unanswered. It's incredibly frustrating to pay for a professional service and then be ignored when asking for something as basic and important as complete tax documentation. read more

Our CPA of over 20+ years screwed us this year. He had us do an extension, then on the last day to file get a call from his daughter saying he is out on medical leave. Great! So we were furious with him and will no longer use. Called H&R Block etc., to try and get an appointment to get our taxes filed, and all were full. Was able to get an appointment with this firm. Beatrice and the owner Mr Joffe welcomed us. We gave all our info from the previous tax guy and within about 1 1/2 hrs., our taxes were filed.
