He responded immediately and stopped later the same day to take a look at my yard. I received an estimate quickly (same day). After getting a few more estimates I hired More Life for the project. They were able to start the following week. Throughout the project Jose answered all my questions and made sure I was happy with the progress. He made me feel at ease and confident in their work. The project was a total gut that included demolition of a dropped ceiling that had flooded with sewage. He rebuilt the exterior doorway, replaced all the original plumbing and electrical in the kitchen and basement, handled asbestos abatement, and refurbished the original windows, pantry built-ins, and as much trim that could be salvaged. The new kitchen has all-new subfloor and flooring, tile, light fixtures, custom-designed cabinets, wood trim in the historic style, and paint. The project also included lots of "honey-do" add-ons that included hand-fitted "dutchmen" in old doorways, several custom-made screen doors, and rehabilitating all the old window, door, and cabinet hardware. They also replaced multiple false beams under the eaves on our home's two-story exterior. The renovation was a huge undertaking, but Ben was always sensitive and accommodating. His crew and subcontractors are pleasant and professional, and I never felt uncomfortable being home alone with any of them. I have never collaborated with a more skilled and professional contractor. Ben is not intimidated by the idiosyncrasies and surprises inherent in tackling a historic property, and our renovation reflects the high level of his professionalism and craftsmanship. We had a house built in Ashland and moved in with only dirt and rocks in our backyard. We had a limited budget for implementing a design by a local landscape architect. After attempting to implement on our own, we contacted Andrew and worked with him to narrow down a list of improvements that fit in our budget and left us with a manageable amount of work to do on our own. I liked how Andrew gave us estimates for everything we could implement for our plan and then we could pick through the items. Ultimately Banyan Tree dug and brought in irrigation lines, setup a 4 zone watering system with connection points, built gravel paths with steel edging, setup a microspray system for our garden boxes, and seeded a lawn. His crew was great and went the extra mile to improve our yard when an unexpected issue came up. At some point later, one of our sprinklers busted and Andrew came in and fixed it as part of his warranty.

Our experience with Jason was poor…read more We contracted for a simple sidewalk from driveway to front step. The route is level and was lawn. We supplied detailed dimensions and requirements. Jason quoted $3,200. Then Jason did not respond for two days. He first claimed he had no internet or phone service. When he finally showed up, he claimed the lack of response was because he had been too sick to answer. Before coming, Jason asked to use our backhoe/loader because he had trailer issues and could not bring his equipment. We said OK. When he showed up, he did not know how to operate the backhoe or loader, or even move the tractor. After an hour of training Jason, he started removing the existing turf. In doing that, he damaged our deck and promised to repair it (he did not). We served Jason lunch. He quit at 2:30, saying he would be back to finish the following day. He left tools scattered around our property. He did not return the following day and did not respond to requests for his plan. The third day, Jason showed up near noon and said he would not complete the job or replace the grass. Jason said that the grass removal he had done benefited us and that we should be grateful. He became hostile, abandoned the contract and the job, leaving us with damage and a mess. We are senior citizens. After receiving law enforcement assistance and recommendations regarding a safe method with a hostile person, we returned Jason's tools to his location in Yreka. Instead of the contracted sidewalk, we have a damaged deck and a dirt entry path with no grass. What was grass will become a dangerous, slippery, muddy path this winter. That mud will track into our home. Jason has endless and creative excuses. Given our experience with Jason, we do not believe that even with a clear contract, quality work, lack of damage, or job completion is likely.
