Like most millennials that have entered adulthood, I have very fond memories of going to blockbuster as a kid. It was our weekly tradition. I would save up my money for preowned movies, and video games. And it was always such a treat. Getting to see something new. I was definitely sad on blockbuster filed for bankruptcy and started closing locations. But I'm really glad there's one left on the planet. The location was easy to find, and there was a good but small parking lot. The staff was very pleasant to work with. I am sure they get tons of questions about how blockbuster is doing, how the store is holding up, etc. There was so much blockbuster type of merchandise, apparel, and gifts that it felt like it was its own souvenir store in addition to still offering movie rentals. Seeing the display of a late 80s early 90s living room, complete with couch, movie on VHS, Pokémon cards on the table, VHS covers, etc. really warmed my heart. I felt like it was a nine-year-old watching Dragon Ball Z in front of the Family TV again. There were plenty of displays for movie props, autographs, news covers about the store being the last on the planet. It was like a time capsule to cinema, life in the 80s and 90s, and today. Walking the aisles, definitely felt like I was back in blockbuster. For a moment, I felt like I was a kid again, looking for the perfect movie. You cannot be passing through Bend, and not stop here. This is an icon, the last blockbuster on the planet. The place is a good size. The friendly lady I was chatting with was telling me that yes, they get people stopping in from *EVERYWHERE.*. They have it all. Blu-rays, and DVDs for sale, and of course, they have them for rent. The rental prices are very reasonable. New releases suspense, Comedy, drama, you name it, they probably have it. They even have sections dedicated toward certain stars, when I was there, they had a "John Candy section." The blockbuster.com webpage is back online, and I was asking the lady if she knew if Blockbuster was going to be making a comeback. She said she didn't know, but she made a good point. They should. Now, if you want to see a movie, there's no guarantee that the streaming service you subscribe to will have that movie. How many streaming services would you have to subscribe to? It would be so easy just to pop in and rent your movie again. You know what they say, everything old is new again. And of course, they have hoodies, sweatshirts, and T-shirts, including one that has the classic phrase, "be kind, rewind." What a fun store. read more

When in Bend, you've got to stop here. As a movie/physical media freak, I was so excited to be able to visit the last blockbuster in person. Everyone working was so nice, even to us blatant tourists passing through. Of course they have movies to rent, but they also have a good chunk of pre-owned dvds and blu-rays available for purchase if you can't rent. I picked up a couple that were reasonably priced - they have a lot of gems here (criterion, shout factory, etc) and I noticed some harder to find & OOP Blu-rays as I was browsing too. As someone who grew up going to Blockbuster on a weekly basis, I was extremely excited to have the opportunity to visit what is officially "The Last Blockbuster on the Planet." Prior to pulling up in the Blockbuster parking lot, hubby and I were filled with nostalgia and after getting out of the car, we took a photo on front of the blockbuster logo outside of the building. Upon entering the store, hubby and I were warmly greeted by employees then enjoyed walking around the store and seeing various homages to the past including a living room set up from the 1980s, actor chairs, movie posters , VHS tapes for sale, horror movies, and highlighting 80s movies. The friendly attitudes of store employees was infectious and as we were shopping, we engaged in several conversations with other visitors to the store. The store is fascinating in that it is part thriving store where a person can still rent a movie on DVD for seven nights and part pop culture museum in the various movie displays. After walking around for about an hour, and looking at various videos and items for purchase, hubby and I left purchased two postcards, a lanyard, a fridge magnet, and a-shirt which were all reasonably priced. Bend is home to the LAST Blockbuster on the planet! Not only did I grow up renting movies at this location when spending the summers with my grandparents. I remember seeing it on the news when the other store closed around COVID leaving Bend's Blockbuster the last remaining store on the planet. Thats pretty cool in itself. But being a 90s kid, I had to take my Boyfriend to see the last one, there is so much nostalgia and memories that came rushing back to us both. This location isn't just a movie rental location, it has been turned into a museum of movie history. Though it is fully operational and the locals take their families in for rentals it is quite the tourist attraction. They sell all kind of trinkets from clothing to games to their very own Blockbuster ale. Which from what I heard are all made locally. They have signed movie posters and items from films on display, its quite amazing. They have over 21,000 titles to choose from and their prices? Incredible! You can rent a DVD for $0.99 for the week. New releases are a bit more and are 3 day rentals. You can rent VHS tapes for $.49 or purchase some for a few dollars. The staff was so friendly, they greeted us as we entered, let us browse, assisted locals renting movies. They even offered to take a photo for us in front of their memorabilia wall. Well yes I am old enough that I had a blockbuster card when they were still just VHS....( so that would make me .....37ish...). Anyway this is the very last Blockbuster video in the free world (at this point the free may go away before the last blockbuster... A great trip back in time for people of a certain age. We were on vacation in Sunriver and this was the only stop we made in Bend. It's mostly a Blockbuster gift shop for tourists, but some lucky locals can still maintain memberships here. We couldn't leave without a bag of Blockbuster swag. I did the tourist thing and came in to look around and of cource, by a memorabilia TShirt. This retro store that actually still rents video is truly a trip down memory lane. Inside it it very much museum type item from Blockbuster of yesterday. The staff seemed very nice with a little undertone of, "Yes, all of this stuff was really "real" stuff from Blockbuster". I did notice a little sign that said pictures in the store are okay, pictures of the staff members needs permissions. I really miss the days of the old video rental stores. In my youth I never imagined a time where we would be streaming videos + music and downloading video games. For the younger generations that were not around for the Blockbuster & overall video store era, there was a time where you had to leave your home to rent a movie (either a VHS or DVD) or video game. The release of the 2020 documentary, "The Last Blockbuster" brought to the surface a ton of nostalgic memories from my childhood. Even better, hence the title, it brought to light the fact that there is a remaining Blockbuster video store located in Bend, Oregon. Fast forward to 2023, I was preparing an itinerary for a family trip to Portland and thought it would be cool to stop in Bend on the drive back home. As planned, en route to Sacramento from Portland, we made a quick stop at The Last Blockbuster. As I excitedly pulled into the Blockbuster parking lot (my wife was tickled by the apparent giddy expression on my face), I took in the signature Blockbuster logo in the signature yellow and blue theme. As we entered the store, we were greeted by a friendly employee located behind the counter. As we browsed the store, we noticed that it closely resembled the exact layout as the Blockbusters that I frequented as a child. For nostalgic folks such as myself, there is an entire section with Blockbuster memorabilia. For my wife and I, this was a fun walk down memory lane; however, my 10 year old son could not fathom why anyone would leave the comfort of their home to rent a movie or video game. As keepsakes, we bought two beers emblazoned with the Blockbuster logo and two Blockbuster neoprene beer koozies. So many memories flooded back when I pulled up to Blockbuster. I spent a few minutes documenting pictures of the front signs and taking in the moment. When I walked in the doors, it looked the exact same since the last time I was in a Blockbuster, maybe 15 or so years prior. I walked throughout the store and enjoyed all the old movie posters, memorabilia and seeing a good ole VHS tape. There are a few clothing racks set up to market Blockbuster apparel and nic nacs. The two lady employees at the front did not have a great attitude and were not very welcoming. What year is it?! While I was in Bend for decidedly other reasons, visiting "The Last Blockbuster" was high on the list for must-visits and it's worth coming! I highly recommend watching the documentary about the store to get the whole picture about the family and community in which it sits; but if you just want a blast from the past, you must come in. Blockbuster is in a more commercial area of Bend, not a far drive from downtown. It's in a little strip mall and boasts the original signs in the parking lots. The staff here are super welcoming, well aware that many people are coming for the novelty. The first thing I noticed was the smell, it's exactly like those Friday night memories growing up and looking for that favorite or new movie. To the right of the counter they have a 90s throwback room display. The store also has a bunch of real movie memorabilia plus all kinds of collectibles from the heyday of Blockbuster's popularity. Of course for those not renting, they have tons of used movies for sale. They also have souvenirs for sale including pens, shirts, magnets, postcards - and the coolest thing, a collaboration beer with 10Barrel nearby. Didn't call ahead or talked to anyone working in the store so can't comment on their attitude. I took pictures inside and out, went in, looked around, bought 2 T shirts and left, all without conversing with anyone, customers or employees. A stop at the last blockbuster in the world was a condition my nephew set to go with us to Bend. So we made a quick stop here. Since we're from Eugene we obviously weren't about to rent a video (though we don't have VHS and maybe not DVD, so it wouldn't have worked anyway). They have a lot of souvenirs to commemorate your visits to the Last Blockbuster, like sweats, playing cards, t-shirts, and so on. There's some movie-related memorabilia to keep with the theme. I suspect there are people here who are renting videos, but seems like their main business nowadays is in people remembering their childhoods wandering through the aisles to rent the newest release. It's amazing to consider that's exactly what my sister, friends, and I would do, and now we have movies and television that are delivered right to our TV. The workers were all college-aged kids who were more interested in their phones than us, but to be fair they're probably used to people just visiting for the nostalgia and pictures. I'd have to say it was pretty surreal visiting the last Blockbuster in the world. I was visiting from out of town with a girlfriend of mine, and we knew we had to stop by here. It was like stepping back into the 90s. What I liked most about it was that it was very much a functioning and active Blockbuster rental store, but it also integrated merchandise, keepsakes, a locked up time capsule towards the back of the store, and a roped off 90's "living room", that makes you feel right at home. What's up: Like many others, I grew up with my local Blockbuster and was sad when it went away. After watching the recent Netflix documentary about the Last Blockbuster, my friends and I had to make a stop in Bend to check it out. Parking: There is a small lot up front for parking that is shared with other businesses nearby. When we arrived, there were a few open spots, so it's a pretty busy location. Environment: Masks are required to enter. Walking in, it feels like you've gone back in time with all the DVDs and VHS tapes on the tracks. It had the classic colors of Blockbuster as well as the cool memorabilia from Russell Crowe. It's also cool seeing all the notes that fans from all over sent in to shore their live and support. There's also Last Blockbuster gear that can be purchased such as t-shirts, hats, and bottles. You can even get a membership card for $2. Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. This was a very nostalgic stop on our trip. It's also awesome to see this lonesome little store still operating. I hope it sticks around for years to come because it really does represent a different era when people walked the rows to find something to watch instead of just clicking away. I'll be honest: One of the reasons I wanted to go to Bend was to visit Blockbuster. I pulled in to the parking lot and had flashbacks of visiting Blockbuster with my dad and brother as a youngster, walking around the aisles, looking for movies, finally finding one we all agreed on, only to have it be already rented! Unfortunately, we were just in the area for a night and did not have access to a VHS or DVD player so we just browsed... and were amazed at all of the old relics of the past. It was honestly like we stepped back in time, super cool. I loved the corner of the store that looked like our living room from years prior. While I didn't rent any movies, the selection looked good, and I did end up getting a couple of postcards and stickers and really considered getting a Blockbuster card but I am pretty sure I still have one from a decade (or more) ago. Renting movies, obviously there's great value in that. The service was adequate, no complaints. Even the computers looked like they did in the 80s and 90s - blue screens, old keyboards, old font - I loved it! I hope to make it a Blockbuster night in the future. I felt so much joy walking through these doors! We were in town visiting, so we had no plans to get a movie, but I was absolutely going to get some memorabilia and movie snacks! There was a festival going on in Bend that day, which may have been part of it not being busy. This place is filled with classic setups, movie memorabilia, and blasts from the past! We wandered around the entire place with smiles on our faces just enjoying the feeling. We ended up at the section where you can buy movies that were previously rented out, and I ended up walking away with a dvd for $6! The middle of the store is the merch, and we ended up leaving with a blockbuster shirt, postcard, 2 membership cards, and a silicone shot glass. We went to gawk but left with a bumper sticker and a VHS tape. They were out of shirts at the time and at $20-40 a pop, I know how they stay afloat. Yes, we have all seen the documentary on Netflix (how ironic) about Blockbuster's bust and much of it featured this beloved Bend location, as the very last one. It's even better in person. On our first day in Bend, we HAD to make it to Blockbuster. And it feels very much like nostalgia when you walk inside, with blue and yellow all over the place. And you can easily tell the locals from the tourists because the locals are actually renting a movie. Staff probably is over this tourist trap, which is why it is not permitted to take a picture with or of the staff. I get it. So we minded our business and walked around the place and got some goods. They have a lot of Blockbuster merchandise to purchase since ya know, it's the last and only store. They also had a display area of items from movie sets that have been donated from directors and actors. I left with a fanny pack and tee-shirt; I know you're jealous. There is a tender place in my heart for Blockbuster. And if you feel the same way, you will love this Blockbuster that easily takes you back to simpler times and that college boyfriend that you shoulda broken up with from the start. What year is it again? I feel like I've been transported back to a Friday night in 1999 and I'm here to pick up some VHS tapes and a pack of Butterfinger BB's. I honestly thought all Blockbusters have already closed down but when I mentioned a trip to Oregon, one of student's mentioned that there was a Blockbuster there so naturally, I had to make a stop and get all the photos for my teens. This Blockbuster is like a Prius hybrid. It remains a fully functional Blockbuster but is also part museum/souvenir store. This Blockbuster still has DVD's and video games for rent and I saw local Bend residents checking out and returning films.
