Every time we visit Sisters, we have to visit Paulina Springs Books at least once or twice. Since our last visit, it looks like they either expanded or repurposed part of the store. There's now a huge space with tables, chairs, and games. It's an open invitation to the community to come in, relax, and have a little fun. Another thing I love about this bookstore is that staff members handwrite notes about books they enjoy and attach them to the books. It's a thoughtful touch that helps connect the right readers with the right books. Near the checkout, I also noticed a sign reminding dog owners about the dangers of hot asphalt. It's a simple reminder, but it speaks to the community-minded spirit that seems to be woven throughout the store. Will we be back? Of course. We stopped in while window shopping in Sisters, and found that this is a really cute little bookstore! They've got sections of every category, like children's, young adult, etc. with the genres clearly labeled. I liked how they had everything organized. They had a section of used books as well, and a small children's play area. In addition to books, they sell board games and playing cards. We bought a deck of cards and a small book for my daughter. read more

There's a reason this places has a fabulous five star rating. It's a treasure chest! I stumbled in here looking for greeting cards and found myself lost in four rooms of impressive selections- expansive card selection, stickers, books, kids area, Melissa and Doug items, cookbooks and more. The store was well lit, organized and inviting. I appreciated how much space there was between the displays. They're conveniently located across the street from a coffee shop and a block away from the amazing Sisters Bakery. read more

Cute shop with plenty of titles and cute goods to explore. They held items at the counter so I could continue shopping with hands-free. Found some cute dice sets for my kids. Really nice bookstore that has a good selection of books, maps, calendars, toys and nifty gift ideas (Yeti quote inspired post-its). They also have a room off to the left side of the bookstore with a couple of long wooden tables and benches to sit, relax, and read. Seems like my family is in here every other day. Staffers are nice, smart and knowledgeable. The new owner expanded the store -- now there's a big section of board games and card games. You can sit at tables and try out "demos" of the games before you buy. Also new game nights and Scrabble sessions. Books, kids books and toys, interesting gift items for adults. I wish they had a bigger inventory in every category, more books to choose from. But we like that they have at least some books in every category. Nice selection of cookbook, books about the outdoors/nature, local books. Pretty good young adult/teen section, middle reader section -- not as many little-kid books as we'd like to see. read more

Great little bookshop for families. We were looking for things to do to entertain the toddler on a cold rainy day, and this shop has a great assortment of kids books, puzzles, and a few other toys (mainly Melissa and Doug brand, which is nice stuff). There's a couch to enjoy and a few puzzles to play with in the back. We found a lot of fun interactive board books, and choosing just one puzzle to take home was a difficult task when there are so many. read more

How great for a small town like Sisters--or a town/city of any size-- to have such a wonderful bookstore. Spacious, comfortable. Love the table of staff picks with their notes. As a poet was disappointed with only 3 shelves of poetry. But a lot of most anything else you're looking for. For a small town (pop. 1700), Sisters has been surprising me with its depth lately. It seems to have two of everything. And some of the greatest pleasures the town has to offer are once you wander off Cascade Avenue. I've been a fan of Lonesome Water Books for several years, but finally walked into Paulina Books and thought it was the perfect counterpart. Where Lonesome Water Books specializes in used and rare books and has a decidedly older feel, Paulina Springs is light, bright, modern and filled with new books. So many small bookstores have a limited selection, but this bookstore impressed me both with its size and knowledgeable staff. Many books are at full retail, but they had a nice selection marked 10 or 25 percent off as well. read more

We were recently and Sisters and picked up a stack full of awesome books. The sales woman with the straight brown hair was super helpful and knowledgeable on the books and helped us find the right blend for our three kids under seven. They had a great selection of educational toys - the kind of toys the kids like and parents are excited to buy. The store feels very safe and we were able to browse since we were there in the evening and there weren't many other people. The kids really enjoyed the books and made them very happy. I can't speak highly enough about the sales woman (I didn't get her name but she had long brown hair with bangs) who helped us. She was competent, kind, and safe. We will definitely stop by the next time we are in town. There was a woman with shorter hair who was a little brisk with us but we waited and the other woman was able to help us. read more

A long-standing pillar of the community and I am always excited to stop in. Such a great selection of books that I have to be intentional with my choices or I'd leave with a dent in my budget. Cute shops galore await you as you walk down nearly every street in the little town of Sisters Oregon. I love wandering about, in out of the decor, antique, food and specialty market stores that exist here. However in all the time I have been walking around Sisters. I have missed this book store. Just two blocks back really from the main street of shops and tourist attractions, is a cute little book store that reminds me of the corner book stores of old. Just walking through Sisters conjures up day dreams of the old west. I find myself lost in a Louis L'Amour novel, chasing the ruthless rustler, or dueling it out with a hardened gun fighter. My imagination runs wild when exploring the many nooks and crannies of Sister. So exploring a book store full of many adventures to escape into fits naturally for me. On my last trip to Sisters just a couple of weeks ago I stumbled, not do to intoxication, on to this great little store. Its incredible organized, with lots of unique books. What stood out to me the most was the many books on our region. Oregon, Central Oregon, Oregon History, and just about anything else you could think of. Paulina Springs is not super large, yet has a great selection of quality books. Occasionally I would find a used book in among the mostly new books they offer. The lady the help me was very knowledgeable, and so enthusiastic about the store and having me there as a customer. Felt good to be appreciated for my purchase. This welcoming bookstore just off the main drag in Sisters has a wide and deep selection, a great kids area, and knowledgeable, helpful booksellers who invite great authors and draw in the crowds to support them. After two days of car camping, I stumbled in to find John Larison reading from WHISKEY WHEN WE'RE DRY. Doesn't get any better than that. I love an independent bookstore, and this one is at the top of the list. Without fail I take some time to hit Paulina Springs Books whenever I go near Central Oregon. They know their inventory - they give great recommendations.......Some of my favorite books I have picked up here, I've been introduced to new author's and even warmed to a new genre thanks to their staff pick's. The expanded store is wonderful. The children's section is great full of crafts, activities, games, toys and of course books. They seem to have the "must read's" but they also find the most charming picture books. I never leave without a few to add to the collection. read more

Stopped here on a road trip up to Central Oregon with my boyfriend. I was just planning on browsing, since I have stacks and stacks of unread books at home. However, a book I had never heard of by one of my favorite authors (Joan Didion) was sitting on a table, discarded by someone else, I suppose in favor of another book. So I snagged it. Small and inviting! I am a big fan of the huge Barnes & Noble, but I LOVE these small private bookstores as well. I love that you find a collection of recomendations that are not necessarily on the bestsellers lists. I have bought several books based on this stores recomendations, and I have yet to be disappointed. We definately stop and spend at least an hour here whenever we are in the area. My favorite bookstore of all time! Of course, I grew up in a town that had only a couple of books and no bookstores but I lived in Portland for a while so I have come across a few good bookstores in my time. What I like best is the staff. It is as if they have read everything in the store. If you have a hankering to read a mystery set on the island of Hawaii during WWI, someone in the store will probably know exactly where to point you. read more

Like a 'mini-Powells'. I know, I know...that's a bit strong, but in Sisters to have something so wonderful like Paulina is a god-send.
