NO STARS I am…read morewriting this review after years of fighting Kaiser for basic, evidence-based medical care for documented iron deficiency. I will be changing facilities and doctors. PCP: Dr. Suhanki Rajapaksa I have five years of documented declining iron levels: Ferritin: 37 (2021) 19 (2024) 10 (2025) 23 (Feb 2026) 19 (Feb 2026) Transferrin Saturation: 13% (2021) 16% (2024) 18% (2026) - consistently below normal range TIBC and UIBC progressively elevated, indicating worsening deficiency Despite this objective evidence, repeated requests for hematology referral were denied. Dr. Rajapaksa stated that IV iron infusions are "only for anemia" - which is medically incorrect and not supported by clinical guidelines. I cannot tolerate oral iron due to severe GI side effects. I was told to change my diet, as if dietary iron alone could address years of documented depletion with ongoing blood loss. My diet is not the issue. OB/GYN: Dr. Gina Gregory After an ER visit for heavy menstrual bleeding, a NP at Dr. Gregory's office eventually approved IV iron infusion but stated they "usually shy away from it because of the risks" if you're not anemic. When I asked if Kaiser wanted to wait until I was actually anemic before providing proper care, the NP finally agreed to the referral. However, the "approval" meant nothing. The infusion center had no record of any order. I was passed between departments, told to message (no response), given no direct phone numbers, and experienced "technical difficulties" where staff claimed they couldn't hear me and had to hang up. The referral existed on paper only - no actual order was ever submitted. Despite the NP stating the infusion center would call me to make the appointment. The Pattern: Documented deficiency with clear symptoms (cannot exercise without becoming winded, exhausted walking up stairs, cold intolerance, brain fog, heart palpitations) Failed oral iron therapy Multiple denied referrals over years Made to feel like I was seeking opioids when requesting evidence-based treatment for iron deficiency. Medical gaslighting: told I don't "look" deficient by ER physician despite lab proof Bureaucratic stonewalling when treatment was finally "approved" Dietary advice instead of medical intervention The Outcome: I ultimately paid out-of-pocket at a private infusion center and received treatment the same day ($500) - something Kaiser delayed for years. I am filing complaints with the California Department of Managed Health Care and considering legal consultation for medical negligence. Kaiser's model prioritizes cost savings over patient care. The gatekeeping, gaslighting, and systematic denial of medically necessary treatment is unacceptable. If you have complex medical needs requiring specialist care or anything beyond basic primary care, look elsewhere.

The common areas such as the hallways and public bathrooms were all very clean and appear to have been recently remodeled. The rooms themselves are very dated. The wallpaper behind the beds was peeling everywhere. The room doesn't have any chair for guests to sit on. Luckily someone brought me a chair when they saw me standing and looking around when they walked by. My partner is a vegetarian and said there were very little options for her. She was given a grilled cheese sandwich for both lunch and dinner on the same day. Definitely needs some improvement if you are going to stay here for any long period of time. After 2 days, my partner was ready for me to break her out of the place. But again, all of staff was super friendly.

I was at Casa Coloma a couple of years ago and asked to be placed back there again. Luckily, they were able to accommodate me. The staff there are very responsive, caring, professional, and kind. They were always very pleasant and friendly, which is amazing to me considering the verbal abuse they are subjected to by people who do not want to be there. Whenever interacting with me, they always made me feel like I was their only patient. Whenever passing a staff member in the hall, I was aways greeted with a smile. Tanner, the Administrator, made himself very available to the patients, and seemed to know everyone's name which I felt was very impressive, considering the number of patients they had. I want to thank everyone there for the great care I received. I especially want to thank Meron, Maria, Cristina, CJ, and Brittany. They were some of my CNA's and nurses. They made my stay there very comfortable. A special thank you Marcy and Rachel who are 2 of the physical therapists I worked with. They were both very patient and extremely kind and caring to everyone. They were successful in getting everyone to move, even the ones that didn't want to. They made group therapy very fun and I, actually, looked forward to it. If you, or a loved one needs to be placed in a facility like this, I would highly recommend Casa Coloma.
