THE INN AT PALMETTO BLUFF My husband and I celebrated our…read moreanniversary by spending three days in early November, 2019 at this fabulous resort. Our first impression was rather unfortunate, as we expected "early check in" at 1pm. However, our cottage was not ready (reportedly due to a mechanical issue with the ceiling fan) until 3:30pm. The staff was exceptionally helpful - especially Deidre (concierge). Our river-view cottage was spectacular with a lovely fireplace and living room, screened-in porch, spacious bedroom with a very comfortable bed, spacious bathroom with a large shower, tub and double vanity; dressing room with closets, entry with wet bar and small refrigerator. A card with instructions on how to work the thermostat and the lights (master switch behind one of the bedposts) would have been helpful. We enjoyed a delicious 'welcome' snack and chocolates every night. The grounds are spectacular - and vast - with a very nice pool, docks, fire pits, golf course, excellent spa and many other amenities, restaurants, shops and activities. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our massages by Desiree - she was fabulous. The restaurants were all very good - "Fore and Aft" at the pool, Canoe Club (the most upscale); Buffalo's for excellent Italian food, and Octagon, located in the Inn, for very good breakfasts, lunch and dinner. I had probably the best pork chop and truffle fries I have ever had at Octagon. All restaurants are relatively casual, with Canoe Club the most "formal." We drove into the nearby town of Bluffton one day and visited the lovely shops and art galleries. Otherwise, there was enough to do on property to occupy our time. Just sitting on our porch, watching the lovely May River was wonderful - and we also thoroughly enjoyed walking the spacious grounds, "porching" (enjoying cool drinks and cookies on the Inn porch), a sunset cruise along the river (complete with dolphins swimming alongside, snacks, wine and a very nice crew - and there were just two of us!) There are "tram" golf carts traversing the many paths so if you need a ride you can just hop in - no charge. If we lived in the southeast, we would be regular visitors to this wonderful Inn, which is absolutely worth the price.

Concierge should offer these up front, like newspaper. - bar is tiny and not manned, you must ask someone. - no Valet service that we could see, and not offered one. - fitness room very small. - the links is the only restaurant on premises. Why should my stay at a 5 star resort $$$$$, be interrupted by people going in and out of my room fixing things. Do I need the aggravation. This should all have been addressed as part of hotel duties. To top it off my bill was $12.xx more than what was sent to me on their confirmation letter, room fees?? What am I missing here? We were originally planning to spend a three day weekend here. We spoke with someone at the hotel…read moreto arrange for our stay, when we spoke with this person he gave us two options since we had dogs. One was the basic suite on the first floor without any view, the other had a partial view of the ocean. We went with the partial view of the ocean though it was an additional 125 dollars a night. We are on VACAY, no biggie. So when we arrive, we get into our room after the Bellhop gets done slamming our things to the ground, tipped him, though probably shouldn't have. When we look outside our room, we see a big parking lot and not even a slightly partial view of any water other than the puddle in the parking lot from a previous rain. My wife goes down right away and says this isn't an upgrade, they first tell her, we were lucky to get a room, because they were overbooked (sounds like a you problem not an us problem doesn't it?). Then they proceed to tell her that it was an upgraded suite (I guess they don't realize we know how to use the internet, it was the most basic room and a Handicap room on top of it, we will get back to that debacle later). A few hours later, I go down to talk to the desk because I have just taken the dogs out for a walk and it was not very much fun walking in the parking lot, though they did have a few small grass islands which proved beneficial. I was also told that it was an upgraded room and that we should talk to a manager on checking out. I bring up the fact that after the stay if we complain, it does no good since we have implicitly agreed to the Terms and Conditions since we didn't leave and demand a refund immediately, he just smiles. After the first lovely night sleeping on a broken down mattress that is on a 3/4" piece of ply-wood that has a fabric wrap to allow for ease of use by people who are in wheelchairs. It is less comfortable than sleeping on the bathroom floor. I know this because our dogs get off the bed after about an hour and go sleep on the floor, something they never would do at our house with our plush Kings Down Mattress and Box Spring, we notify the desk we are checking out early. No problem. Then at checkout, the manager is amazingly not available though the check out host asks why we are leaving early, he then proceeds to tell us that we were not charged for an upgraded room (Again Bobo, we know how to use the internet, we paid an additional 125 dollars a night for an upgraded room). The only saving grace is that the beach which was about a half a mile walk for us, was a nice diversion for the dogs. Do not waste your money on this debacle of a "resort". No excuse for the lies we were told by the hostesses and hosts at the front desk, that is inexcusable to outright lie multiple times to your guests. Cheers, hope your visit to Hilton Head Island is better than ours.

TERRIBLE AND RUDE STAFF…read more From the moment we arrived at the hotel, the experience was ruined because of the staff's attitude. I pulled up to the main entrance and left my car there while I went to check in. Before I could even properly enter the hotel, I was immediately spoken to rudely because I didn't give my car keys to the employee standing outside. But how was I supposed to know that I had to hand my keys to someone when nobody explained anything to me politely? Then it got even worse. At the reception desk, the employee asked me to write down my phone number and email address. He couldn't read my handwriting, but instead of simply asking me to clarify it, he said: "Do you even understand what you wrote?" I think this kind of behavior is completely unacceptable for hotel staff. After checking in, we looked around the property. The hotel itself and the area were actually very nice, but the staff was terrible. The worst part happened later at the bar. I ordered a piña colada and asked if it could be made without ice because my throat hurt. Instead of responding politely, the bartender started talking to me in a rude way, saying things like: "Do you even know what a piña colada is? Have you ever even had one before?" The funny thing is that I've had piña coladas many times in my life, and different places make them differently -- some add ice, some don't, some make them blended, and some don't. Instead of calmly explaining how their version is made, the bartender chose to be rude. Please teach your staff how to speak to guests respectfully. Judging by other reviews, I'm clearly not the first person complaining about the staff's attitude.

After staying here almost every year for the past 15 years, my family has enjoyed many great…read morememories. However, the condos are now more run-down, and there are a couple problems that should be addressed. First, the fact that smoking is still permitted on the balconies is ridiculous. Secondhand smoke, as we all know, is toxic and immediately harmful. The beach view is the key feature to this place, and everyone should be able to sit on the patio to enjoy it without the smell of cigarette smoke. This year I brought a floor fan to put on the patio with me, but it did not prevent the smell of smoke. There is no safe level of breathing secondhand smoke whether you are indoors or out. Smoking needs banned on the patios. The second issue is with the mildew smell of the air vents. The first two days this week, all I could smell is fresh laundry. Apparently, there are dryer sheets on the air filters, which is loaded with toxic chemicals btw. However, the rest of the week, it smelled strongly of mildew every time the AC kicked on. That could be a serious issue for those with asthma or mold allergies. Third, the kitchen could definitely use an update, specifically the scratched nonstick cooking pans, which are toxic (you knew that was coming). Those need replaced with new ceramic pans. And one last note - I find it absolutely ironic that I witnessed the maintenance man threatening a lady in the pool that he would call the health department and have her kicked out because she removed the rope that separates deep/shallow ends. Yes, call the health department, please, and ask them about all the issues I listed as well. Folks, overall this is a decent place to stay with perks like the beach view, free coffee, and an easy walk to the pool. However, be aware of the negatives that could potentially harm your well-being. We go on vacation to relax and de-stress, not come home with lung cancer. Seriously.

I am at the stage in my life where I have time to relax, I can put everything on the back burner and take a two week vacation. On this past trip, I was able to get off the cruise ship in Miami, stop in for a quick hello at my father in laws house and then head up north. Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort was the perfect stop. This year I planned for a two night stay at the property. We reserved a two bedroom unit with a magnificent view of the low country coastal marsh. Birds and assorted wild life are flying by, it can't get more picturesque from what I'm seeing from our private deck. *From September 8, 2025, through March 2026, Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort will undergo exterior maintenance. You may see and hear construction and refurbishment work during daytime hours. They got rid of the ESSO sign! I'm glad to see Disney is making the investment on this property. Our room looks great, it seems like they first worked on all of the interior rooms. We just stayed at the Boardwalk Hotel, this two bedroom had the same contemporary feel. The Murphy Bed is similar to The Boardwalk, it's a great design. The question is, is it really a "Disney" hotel? I own points in Disney Vero Beach, Vero Beach is a true Disney hotel. Wanna know something? If I'm driving back to NY from a Disney Orlando Hotel, Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort is my next stop. Thank you Disney for investing in the property and giving it that Disney magic feel.
